- CaptainPanda, on 05/10/2009, -1/+28I guess that record companies think that any time is a good time to attack P2P.
- Duffle, on 05/11/2009, -2/+19Maybe, just maybe, some of those people felt like downloading the music then donating the money so a pilfering record company wouldn't get any of the money.
- CaptOblivious, on 05/11/2009, -1/+17You RIAA and MPAA shills are too obvious to be effective, you all need to be fired.
- MerchantofPanic, on 05/11/2009, -0/+12"...SGAE issued a statement, saying that although it would still take its 10%, it would make an equivalent voluntary donation back to the fund, effectively canceling it out..."
So the SGAE's total contribution to the charity was zero, minus the legal costs the charity racked up in response to the stupid action the SGAE launched.
You can add 'PR' to the list of 'mismanagement issues' currently plaguing the record industry. - euro22, on 05/11/2009, -4/+16Stay classy, RIAA & twins.
- inactive, on 05/10/2009, -7/+17Nothing like record companies wanting to steal actual real physical money from charities..and people at weddings... as opposed to all that non-existent imaginary sales money.. anyway we all know music companies fund terrorists now.. these real thieves make me sick.. how can they can be so greedy and callous.. oh yeah they're record companies, that's how they do business.
They shouldn't come crying to mama when they get burned for playing with fire. - theonlywizdum, on 05/11/2009, -1/+7No, curse you and your grey area! People are either thieves or law abiding citizens! /s
- computershack, on 05/11/2009, -0/+5If you'd read the ***** article, you'd see that they have.
- artfiend77, on 05/11/2009, -4/+8Somebody get Lars here a tampon.
- sajorojas, on 05/11/2009, -0/+3or distribution rights!
- Carnil, on 05/11/2009, -0/+3The sad thing is, a week after they said that, the family of the ill boy said they had not been contacted by SGAE representatives nor been given any euro of that 10%.
It was just a public relations stunt. - Neville007, on 05/11/2009, -0/+2SGAE are extremely unpopular in Spain. They've already obtained from the government a percentage from stuff like blank CDs and DVDs, which they want extended to PCs and other hardware. They've benn Google bombed a few times already, with Google returning words like "chieves" or "criminals" to querys containing the word "SGAE".
They've even gone as far as suing blogs and webpages where users criticised their money-hungry ways. - inactive, on 05/11/2009, -5/+7ahh yes.. the One who seek to destroy the pirate has become the pirate itself....
classic story.. - inactive, on 05/11/2009, -1/+1Yes - get Lars a tampon because he's a ***** pussy because he doesn't want to steal like artfag77. Give me your computer artfag. You don't seem to give a ***** about robbery. Give it to me before I ***** your daughter *****.
- PopcornDave, on 05/11/2009, -1/+1Just one?
Maybe some Midol too. - computershack, on 05/11/2009, -4/+3"file-sharers are downloading the song while essentially trying to avoid giving money to charity, something which I find a little hard to believe."
Then you're a ***** moron. I doubt there's one single person here, either pro or against piracy that thinks that everyone who downloads it on P2P gives a donation. - computershack, on 05/11/2009, -4/+2Of course they did....
What's it like in cloud cuckoo land? - JackSchittt, on 05/11/2009, -6/+1The record company is just as wrong for asking for their license fee as the people who are downloading it without donating.
The SGAE should be nice and waive their 10% copyright fee. But at the same time, people shouldn't be downloading it without paying for it at all, either. - MightyUpsetter, on 05/11/2009, -6/+1idiot.
- inactive, on 05/11/2009, -11/+2The classless people are the ones that pirate a charity song. Why are they entitled to have the song?
- inactive, on 05/11/2009, -17/+6Once again...an article on piracy from TorrentFreak, so take it for what it is worth...NOTHING. The part where they say that some people whave chosen not to donate to the charity, as if they weren't going to buy the song anyway...well then guwess what? YOU DON'T GET TO OWN IT! You are NOT entitled to own every song and movie you want. There is no gray area on this. You simply are not entitled.
- inactive, on 05/11/2009, -11/+1Sorry, but unless they are clinically retarded, people should know that buying a CD for $15 does NOT give you disotribution rights.
- inactive, on 05/11/2009, -17/+3All download pirates should walk the plank... AAAAARRR
- geerlingguy, on 05/11/2009, -20/+4Seriously? Who cares. If the record companies want to sue a charity, they have every right to do so... if the charity uses copyrighted materials, those putting it on should have the brains to ask the company that owns the copyright beforehand. I call the organizers irresponsible.
My local Church often uses copyrighted songs in their services, which are broadcast over local cable. Even though this is a 'charitable' cause (for those who can't make it on Sunday), the music director has to keep his licenses and contracts current... because he doesn't own the rights to the music.
I think the thing the record companies *should* be doing is making sure that people know what rights they actually have when they purchase music or the rights to play a certain piece. Then when they sue irresponsible people, it's more justifiable, and less bloodsucking.
