- Epskampie, on 07/02/2008, -3/+19I use foxmarks now: (only does the bookmark syncing, not the other stuff)
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/241 ...
Works fully with ff3 too.
Google browser sync always inserted lots of seperators in my bookmarks, so I'm glad to be rid of it anyway. - ericthegreat, on 07/02/2008, -0/+12More than likely it was abandoned because of the new bookmark database in FF3 and it would have taken a major overhaul to bring it back up. My bet is this was a 20% project that really wasn't going anywhere for Google and wouldn't add any revenue stream to them so a decision was made to stop further development.

* Support for NSS, the crypto library used by Firefox.
* End-to-end encryption, with support for secure sharing of data with a 3rd party.
* RSA public/private keys, AES encryption. - rivalius13, on 07/02/2008, -3/+10Odd, my old Weave account doesn't seem to work so I had to re-register it. And it teases with the option for sending extensions into your cloud but they are greyed out. I'd like to have my extensions follow me whereever I am.
- Otto, on 07/02/2008, -0/+7The old Weave accounts all got removed. Everybody had to reregister.
- ocellnuri, on 07/02/2008, -1/+7Google Browser Sync was actually released as open source code if I understand correctly. It just needs a team to pick it up.
- PolarZoe, on 07/02/2008, -0/+6You can disable the sync on close feature by going to about:config and setting extensions.weave.syncOnQuit.enabled to false
- Baryn, on 07/02/2008, -0/+6Well, I'm 100% sure.
- hawksfan03, on 07/02/2008, -0/+5I'm 90% sure this will only currently work with FireFox 3.
- jflowers45, on 07/01/2008, -1/+5Did they discontinue browser sync because of google gears?
- quidpro, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4I bet you would...
- Duositex, on 07/02/2008, -1/+4I've been waiting for this for a long time.
One thing I'd really like though: the ability to specify what tags/folders/keywords get synced. That way my bookmarks that are work related don't get copied to my home computer, and my bookmarks that are... well.. home related.. don't get copied to my work computer. - zdislaw, on 07/02/2008, -1/+4Sees pretty clear, actually:
Weave does not yet support OS X on PowerPC.
We do not have OS X/PPC support at this time, apologies for the inconvenience. The more adventurous might try building the extension from source, see Labs/Weave/Building.
http://wiki.mozilla.org/Labs/Weave/0.2/Release_Not ... - ericthegreat, on 07/02/2008, -2/+5Hopefully this will work like Google Browser Sync did. Losing that is the only reason I haven't made the move to Firefox 3 yet.
- logic6, on 07/02/2008, -1/+3Is in encrypted locally, i.e. before uploading to the cloud?
Will this work with any browser other than Firefox? - Toupee, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2I'm a happy Foxmarks user but once this supports extension synching I'm all over it. Although with the awesomebar, browser history synching might be very useful... I'm just wary cause 0.1 had some weird performance issues on my vista setup. (Then again, I'm trying to go linux now...)
- subliminalurge, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2Unfortunately, foxmarks doesn't sync sessions, so it's useless for my purposes. I know I'm in the minority on this one, but the bookmark syncing is one feature I don't really care much about.
Right now, Weave is the only thing out there that even comes close to being a replacement for Google Browser Sync. Unfortunately, being a 0.2 product, I'm expecting that it will have issues for awhile. - subliminalurge, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2I installed this new update yesterday. So far it's been working "ok". The tab syncing isn't quite as smooth as in GBS, but it gets the job done.
Given all the advantages of FF3 over FF2, I'd say that with this update, Weave is "close enough" that you might want to go ahead and upgrade. If you just can't stand it, you can always downgrade again and use GBS to recover all of your FF2 settings.
I was in the same boat as you, sticking with FF2 because I depended on GBS pretty heavily. Now that I've made the switch, IMHO the advantages to using FF3 are more than enough to make up for any annoyances that I have with Weave. - baldr, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2nevermind, found out by going to the weave forums: the tor button extension was interfering with the CAPTCHA somehow...
- allyant, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Yeh same thing happened here, had to re-register my account...
- kaptainchump, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1Mozilla Weave blows hardcore. I never had problems with GBS. With GBS you just set it and forget it. This POS weave from mozilla works 50% of the time and it uses up my processor for about 5 minutes to sync each time I close the browser window.
- tiuk, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Yeah, the separator thing was annoying. I also switched to foxmarks when FF3 launched.
I kind of miss cookie syncing, but I got over it pretty quickly. - enterneo, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1is there a way to integrate the delicious bookmarks into my awsome bar? I want my delicious bookmarks to show up as soon as I start typing in the awsome bar.
- kevinisnthere, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1It works for me, but takes a long time to update.
- matthewf01, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1FINALLY got this going between my desktop and laptop after a bit of trouble with the service (validating my user acct) this morning... pretty neat little plug-in but I'd like a little more control over how bookmarks are synced (define a 'master' set on one machine, define a [I'll use 'secondary' instead of 'slave' ;) ] secondary, one-way sync, two-way sync, sync selective folders, wipe-and-replace all...
- sully213, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1I also used to use Google Browser Sync, but have since moved to FoxMarks. It's worked wonderfully. I gave Weave a brief try before FoxMarks, but found it to be too immature yet with random problems syncing the data. Maybe I'll give it another try when it hit's 1.0, but for now I'm sticking with FoxMarks.
- fmorel90, on 07/02/2008, -3/+3Weave is nice, but way too slow when Firefox is closed. When I close Firefox, I'm usually in a hurry.
- baldr, on 07/02/2008, -1/+1is anyone else having problems setting up an account? got the update this morning, and can't create an account because of the CAPTCHA not showing up even when I try to reload it (I'm up in the northeast U.S.).
- james.mattson, on 07/02/2008, -3/+3This update was seriously upsetting. I have had nothing but problems since i updated yesterday. The version before this one worked a lot better.
I think it works on any browser with Chrome... dont hold me to that. - wjackson, on 07/02/2008, -2/+2I've been using this for a few weeks now, and I've been terribly disappointed with the reliability. I can't even sync my account right now, as authentication fail repeatedly...despite me having saved the correct login credentials and setting it to automatically reconnect when I launch my browser.
They recently changed the username login from your email address to a user name ([First Name] [Last Name], for example) and this has been a miserable failure. I don't think I've logged in once successfully, despite verifying that my credentials are correct and resetting my password.
/rant - ct2000, on 07/02/2008, -2/+2for info and not stated very clerly in the documention - does not currently work on OSX PPC
http://wiki.mozilla.org/Labs/Weave/0.2/Release_Not ... - mishaco, on 07/02/2008, -1/+1febe does more and does it better . and it works with firefox 3.0
- kinggimped, on 07/02/2008, -1/+1Seeing the headline and description made me want to download it; seeing the comments about unreliability and better alternatives made me want to close the tab. Thanks guys.
Weave site has been digg-effected for the time being, anyway :P - zdislaw, on 07/02/2008, -1/+1Delicious only syncs bookmarks, yes? Browser Sync and Weave sync bookmarks, cookies, passwords, history, and forms. If you don't need all that, sure Delicious is enough, but it's definitely not the same thing.
- Blandyman, on 07/02/2008, -1/+1Why are you such a worthless dick? WORTHLESS.
You haven't had a single software bug in five years? You're doing it wrong.
The software is supposed to be USED, not on your desktop so when your mom sees it, you can tell her you make video-games and she'll be like "Ok hon, that's great... go wash your tush!" - crazymaster16, on 07/01/2008, -3/+3no one knows
- andrewcsfan, on 07/02/2008, -1/+0Where other firefox extension can be found. The search addon function in firefox seen not complete
- leamanc, on 07/02/2008, -1/+0I may have to try it again. I un-insalled it two days ago because it seemed to seriously bog down my browsing experience in FF3 on both Kubuntu 8.10 and Mac OS X 10.5.4.
- NerveBand, on 07/02/2008, -5/+3Oh man, guys, you are missing out. Opera Sync does exactly this and effectively as well. I have to give props to Opera for developing an awesome sync solution.
- Razster, on 07/02/2008, -5/+2That is why FF has Foxmarks...
http://www.foxmarks.com
This add-on has helped me out so much - gtluke, on 07/02/2008, -6/+2bogus, i've been using google sync since its release.
- SirLogic, on 07/02/2008, -5/+0I stopped using Google Browser Sync a while ago because it was un-reliable. I now use ChipMarks ( http://www.chipmark.com ) which is extremely reliable, and with the new Fire Fox 3 extension, it is also reasonably fast. Also, it is cross browser and works with IE, for those that use it...
- Baryn, on 07/02/2008, -6/+1Only furries use foxmarks. It sucks compared to Weave, you goddamn ***** furry.
- Baryn, on 07/02/2008, -7/+1Why do I always encounter morons on the Internet who have a problem with every new piece of software that comes out?? XD
Seriously, I haven't had a *SINGLE* software bug in 5 years. Why are you so dumb? DUMB. - skyshock1, on 07/02/2008, -9/+1"many people looked for an alternative [to browser sync]. The closest project to Browser Sync is Mozilla Weave, a Firefox extension that synchronizes local data from your browser with a server so you can access your data from multiple computers"
Really? Because I'm pretty sure I've been able to do this quite easily with del.icio.us for quite sometime.
