- blackrage, on 12/04/2008, -1/+55Silly British...You've been trying to get rid of Pirates for 400 years.
- jakash, on 12/03/2008, -2/+32Complete BS. London will never be a 'fake free zone', especially as long as there are people downloading movies. True, the foreign street vendors that are selling these counterfit DVDs are complete rip-offs, but the way they are seeming let off after being arrested hardly puts them off.
- tkilgore04, on 12/04/2008, -1/+29How do pirated DVDs and the 2012 Olympics tie together? Is selling pirated DVDs during the Olympics a big thing?
"Wow I can't believe we made it over to London to see the games! I really love the track events!"
"Forget the games, I came for the pirated DVDs" - inactive, on 12/03/2008, -1/+28All this at a time when resources are desperately needed elsewhere. It's a futile effort, and the sooner they realize it the better London / GB will be for it.
- TunaFishGangsta, on 12/04/2008, -1/+27Because visitors to England will be more concerned about pirated DVDs than about rapes and stabbings.
- bonk2k, on 12/04/2008, -1/+21Fake? If I pop in a pirated Dark Knight DVD, I would see the same movie I would see if I popped in a legal Dark Knight DVD.
- zyklon, on 12/04/2008, -0/+20But... but... they could put cameras in every bedroom and data sniffers in every router! Then they could stop thought-crime too!
Oh wait. - ProfessorLX, on 12/03/2008, -4/+22good luck with that, douche bags.
- Mohdoo, on 12/04/2008, -3/+18AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
- zyklon, on 12/04/2008, -2/+16Not a chance in Hell.
- Kyle1337, on 12/04/2008, -1/+13where will I go to get ripped off dvds?
....oh ya the thepiratebay.org - LUElinks, on 12/04/2008, -2/+13Fake Free-Zone.
They misplaced the hyphen. - DonJuanAussi, on 12/04/2008, -1/+12No you wouldn't... you would not get that seal of quality the MPAA put on every movie... that damned "You support terrorists if you support piracy" ***** at the beginning of the DVD. Damn I hate those ***** messages... ***** you MPAA for stealing 30 seconds of my life with your lies every time I want to watch one of my hundreds of legitimate legal DVDs... if I were to start pirating, it is those damn messages full of lies that will do it... I am ***** sick of them MPAA arseholes!
I hope I wasn't too subtle with my message.
Oh and don't get me started on the other first play crap telling me piracy is illegal in my country using legalese. I ***** purchased it you morons... Stop stealing my spare time *****! - Gareth321, on 12/04/2008, -0/+11I've said this many times before, the internet isn't going anywhere and it's only getting better at sharing information. The industry needs a new model with which to make money. Fortunately the framework is already there: live concerts and movie theaters. The studios won't make as much money as they are now, and a shift in the dividends and royalties is required, but free music and video can co-exist with a healthy industry and still foster creativity and quality entertainment - even for those that consider Kanya West quality.
The ones that adopt this will thrive over the following years. Resistance is futile. - Rikkochet, on 12/04/2008, -0/+10That's why they can promise that.
Just like how they've made London a pirated video cassette free zone for the past few years! - spookyttws, on 12/04/2008, -1/+10My house will never be pirate free let alone an entire metropolitan city.
- thePuck77, on 12/04/2008, -1/+10He's probably right; there will be no fake DVDs because DVDs will have gone the way of the VHS.
- DrewPeacock, on 12/04/2008, -2/+11I lol'd.
- Medicamusic, on 12/04/2008, -2/+10They better stop the internet too then
- bonk2k, on 12/04/2008, -0/+7Dammit and I thought my argument was airtight!
- Shaggy3, on 12/04/2008, -1/+8Fake-Free Zone, oooh Onion you come up with the best lines.
Wait a minute.. - AbuAbdAllah, on 12/04/2008, -0/+7Brilliant!!!! If the MPA declares London a fake-free zone, think of all the loopholes they'll need for fake boobs, fake hair, fake smiles, fake laughter... It's a sure thing that George Bush and Tony Blair won't be allowed anywhere near the place either, unless the lawyers can work out exceptions for people who believe in fake-WMD's. Wait! I can hear their lawyers now, "M'Lord, there were never any fake-WMD's, only lies. Real lies, not fake ones..."
- coopa, on 12/04/2008, -0/+7That maybe, but at least we did it with a stiff upper lip and afternoon tea!
- PopcornDave, on 12/04/2008, -0/+6No, they really won't. They'll continue this in an attempt to 1) educate the public and 2) please the corporate overlords that are afraid of counterfeit Olympics merchandise being sold.
- noahgelman, on 12/04/2008, -2/+8By the time they actually find away to stop people from pirating DVD's we're gonna have a new format out so they're gonna end up doing all that work for nothing, IMO
- drgkstep, on 12/04/2008, -4/+10and may I add...AHAHAHAHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHAHA...AHHAHAH...heh he....hee....a series of tubes.
- blackrage, on 12/04/2008, -1/+6O RLY?
- brainflakes, on 12/04/2008, -0/+5I'm all for this, nothing more annoying then being pestered by some asian gang trying to sell you DVDs from a carrier bag.
I'm all for allowing free filesharing, but selling pirate stuff for a profit is always wrong - bleedingwalls, on 12/04/2008, -0/+5Give it up MPA, we've got software and technology on our side.
- rolf, on 12/04/2008, -0/+5The British are the ones who started 'modern' European piracy AFAIK to rip off the Spanish with their gold coming back from the new worldXD
http://www.amazon.com/Pirate-Queen-Elizabeth-Adven ... - unitedkronos, on 12/04/2008, -0/+4England has a IP Minister? That's news to me.
- Nackaroo, on 12/04/2008, -0/+4I get offered DVDs nearly everytime I head to the pub, they even offer DVDs to my police mate who shows them his badge, they just move on to the next person!
- D3koy, on 12/04/2008, -0/+4I read "Fake-Free Zone" and my first though was "Thank God, no more DOMplayer *****"
- ericjorgensen, on 12/04/2008, -0/+3I think they're referring more to the hope that they can get rid of fake physical copies of videos. They'll obviously never get rid of P2P sites.
- FreddieD, on 12/04/2008, -2/+5Good luck with that one!
I really hope for their sake that they fully realize they are spewing ***** to the media for publicity to make their jobs appear worthwhile. If they actually believe this then they are in bigger trouble than they can imagine. - Charbanned, on 12/04/2008, -0/+3I can't believe that my tax money is actually funding this idiocy. It's not like the streets of London are 100% safe, I'd rather the police would spend its time catching real criminals first.
- Stavrosian, on 12/04/2008, -0/+3Mostly it's the ease of access. I decide I want to watch a movie and an hour later I can do, all without getting out of my chair.
I still buy movies, music and games regularly, but I wouldn't fancy giving up piracy any time soon. It's far too convenient. - DonJuanAussi, on 12/04/2008, -0/+3Not likely to go down as a hit if Dr Pepper offers the stuff in the UK. There aren't many countries that have large numbers of people that enjoy "rootbeer/sarsaparilla" flavour. Now if there was a Dr pepper gingerbeer or lager line, they may get some takers.
Of course, Dr Pepper will probably only ever give freebies to Americans. - babylonian, on 12/04/2008, -0/+3Buried for misleading title. They haven't found the cure for chavs yet.
- jaypooner, on 12/04/2008, -1/+3LOL who are they kidding??!?
- Chakz, on 12/04/2008, -4/+6***** THE MPA
- Olfster, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2Yup that's the place. Very cool.
- flgood, on 12/04/2008, -1/+3Step #1 in creating a "Fake-Free Zone" - Don't say things like, "We are going to have a Fake-Free Zone". It's like a dare.
- mehan, on 12/04/2008, -2/+4"If there was hope, it must lie in the proles."
- CraigReed, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2Seriously? Look just think this over for a second, combine higher levels of foot traffic with the lower prices of pirated DVDs and throw some impulse buying to the occasion and I can see very clearly how pirated DVD sales can go up during the Olympic games.
- BarriedaleNick, on 12/04/2008, -1/+3Silly Rabbit
- frepnog, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2Portobello Road?
place where the riches of ages are stowed?
anything and everything a chap can unload? - smotpoker1, on 12/04/2008, -1/+3These fool continue to pure gasoline onto the fire. They really don't get it the file sharing is going it is a form of civil disobedience oh and let's not forget its FREE.
1. The prices are outrageous.
2.The RIAA/MPAA are crooked and are trying to own Congress/House of reps.
3.Have not embraced the web and charge way to much for downloads(apple I will pay you 10 cents a song or I will P2P it instead till you get it in your head).
4.Lawyers are dicks and became crooked working with DMCA.
5.Copywrite laws are for business and Profit making not people sharing,We are not pirates we are file sharers so ***** off.
6.Add more content and wow factor instead of just same ol same old.
7.Give the artist more or fade away you are really useless now.
8.Once sold it's no longer yours no matter how much you whine so stop telling us how we can use our media.
9. The CEO's make entirely way to much lower there pay to 20% more than the lowest paid employee or fade away you are unwanted.
10.The RIAA/MPAA sucks.Your music is dumbed down and crap. The movie are assembly lined and clones(boring). - Frostek, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2Huh, says the guy from *Seattle*...
- brainflakes, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2Yeah but with NTSC you get judder because of the 3:2 pulldown :P
Of course with bluray and digital flatscreen tv you'd think it'd be able to run at native 24 fps! (if they can't already??) -
