- sarcoma, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30Funnily enough, my mum was born on the 6/6/60 and so turn 6 on the 6/6/66 =)
- 16x9, on 10/12/2007, -13/+40I thought that some folks in the Catholic Church had already determined that President G.W. Bush is the anti-Christ. If this is so then isn't she safe?
- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20The original number of the beast was 616.
http://www.religionnewsblog.com/11134
It was probably changed by the Romans from DCXVI to DCLXVI, as DCLXVI uses every letter in the roman number system in reverse order. - kimc, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21Not to ruin anyone's pleasure from this, but 666 is a NUMBER. The date 6/6/06 has nothing, what so ever, to do with the number 666. If any date would any have significance regarding this number, it could've been January 1st year 666, but thats 1340 years ago...
- SadBeef, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18my 21st birthday is on 06/06/06 its gonna be sweeeeet
- TomUK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Yes, we know it's only a number kimc, and to most people patterns like this are only a bit of fun. But on the other hand, some people (for whatever reason) are very superstitious.
Hey SadBeef, i'll be 22 on 06/06/06 :-> - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+23
Yeah, bush is the anti-christ :
http://www.bushisantichrist.com/
Anyway, anyone stupid enough to be worried about their spawn being excreted on 6/6/6 should probably not be allowed to breed anyway. Wouldnt it be funny if a bunch of extremist fundamentalists had abortions on the 5th to avoid the possibility? Ahh.. decisions decisions. - mikeazorin, on 10/12/2007, -6/+17"The prospect of giving birth on June 6, 6/6/06, has prompted talk of spawning devil children on Armageddon day."
Pardon my insensitivity, but BWAHAHAHAHAHA! - SirCharge, on 10/12/2007, -7/+17If your name is Rosemary, you'd better induce on the 5th.
- Steelfox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Heh, funny how in cases of that in horror films, the child usually grows up a messed up life and later on they find out they were actually born on 6/6/06 and kill everyone.
- nymphetamine, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13They'll probably end up changing the DOB to the fifth or seventh for those paranoid religious people.
- kloud213, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9dude that website is prolly the most ludacris thing i have ever read. funny but just freakin weird. im not a bush fan either but the antichrist? i thought the antichrist was suppose to be able to talk suavely and be a great man at first. bush is a moron thats it, nothing more nothing less.
- Rice, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8What, what an *****... that lady.
- damienbarrett, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5And what exactly is wrong with the name "Damien"?
This is just another stupid story about people who can't tell fiction from reality. (Ironic that I could be talking about the Bible here).
I was born on Friday the 13th, three years before The Omen was released. I have a birthmark on my head (but it does not look like any number). I have a sister named Carrie. My other sister's name is "Dana Barrett"--who Ghostbuster fans will remember is Sigourney Weaver's character's name. I am also a twin, though neither of us are identical.
What's my point? Poeple constantly make crazy connections between unrelated coincidences, and this one is particularly stupid because "The Omen" book and movies (all of them) are FICTION.
One of my good friends from college has a father who is extremely wingbat religious--we all know the type. When I went to visit my friend, his father did not want to let me in his house because my name is "Damien".
Will I go see this remake? I haven't decided. Maybe they'll let all Damiens in for free. - BSpolice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Dugg for being tongue in cheek, and for the last paragraph.
"Unless of course anyone notices the numerological significance of “Fox”. As one contributor to Arianna Huffington’s blog pointed out last week, F is the sixth letter of the alphabet, O is the 15th letter (1+5=6) and X is the 24th letter (2+4=6). Could Fox be the studio of the Beast?" - lochness, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6She should have planned better on the night of "9 months before"....
- kevinmotel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i know exactly what you mean. the numbers are meaningless. not to mention that the catholic church has changed from a Roman 10 month calender to a Gregorian 12 month calender sometime in the 1500s, then again in the 1600s, some pope decided that October 3rd would be followed by October 13th, to make up for lost days because of the errors of trying to measure time
- DDRSkata, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The anti-christ is supposed to be able to convince the entire world to side with him, pretty much. He's supposed to be the leader of the one world government. Bush...no. Most of the world hates him.
- korteenea, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Last I checked, the arrival of the anti-Christ would be a good thing for the fundamentalists, as it signifies the beginning of the events that will take place during the apocalypse, leading up to the second coming of Christ. But I believe fundies also expect the rapture to take place before the anti-Christ appears... so we really don't have any reason to worry about anyone giving birth to the anti-Christ on 6/6/06 unless between now and then a bunch of fundies vanish into thin air.
Hmm... droves of fundies disappearing... that rapture doesn't sound so bad. - crazyman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Wasn't the kid in 'The Omen' who was the resurrection of the devil named Damien? This sounds like an advertsing sceme for this:
http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/theomen/apple_trailer_medium.html - fartingbob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Some people are really idiotic. Its a date. thats all. and 06/06/2006 is how i would write the date on that day, and theres a 2 and 4 zero's in there. hardly anything to worry about if you ask me.....
- PsyX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3my birthday is on 6-16 - oh noes : ( I've been the beast all along
- SIDSI, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Good god christians sure are afraid of alot of things, funny thing is they cant even agree what the number of the so called beast is. Is it 666 or 616, but I guess when you base your religion on an acient fairy tale book you get ***** like this.
- aliasunknown, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Actually, only recent pagans focus on Gaia and stuff like that. Paganism is just a general term for polytheistic religions, and those practiced in the times of the romans, as far as I recall, were pretty gruesome.
- galactus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Wow that's pretty arrogant of these moms... they must think they're something special to give birth to the Anti-Christ
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4maybe heaven is y2k compliant an she uses 4 digit years
- cpbrown, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7How cool would it be to be born on the 6/6/6 ?
What are these mothers worried about? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Some people are better off never being taught numbers or math, apparently they cannot handle it.
- DocDEB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think you got it.
- deepsub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The thing is, the year is -2006-, not '06'. That distinction alone throws alot of water on this 'crisis'.
If you're going to get purely anayltical, the year this mattered was 6 A.D., at which time the current calendar the Judeo-Christian world uses did not exist, so it was a non-event then, too.
There are so many reasons why the date and the handwaving about the date is completely arbitrary and subjective. - theone3, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5correction: a series of letters.
- puzzud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I dunno about the complete history of the 'mark of the Beast,' but I'm pretty sure the idea that whether it's a number or not is irrelevant. I think it's a 'mark' or a symbol. In fact, I never hear anyone say six hundred and sixty six; you always hear six six six!
Our DECIMAL NUMBER SYSTEM makes the succession of three 6's appear to be a large number, in the case that each digit has a weight (1's, 10's, 100's place). Well each section of a written date has similar weights... you do the math.
I would like to point out (wish I had a picture) of the scene in the movie "Day After Tomorrow" where there is a satellite view of three major storms on earth, each swirling and making one of three 6's. If 666 is the sign before apocalypse, then I thought that would be a 'neat' way to see it, rather than in some lesser yet more straightforward (dumb ass) way, like the date or the number of letters of someone's name. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4is it realy the sixth
1800's or so we added 2 weeks to the calendar to bring the julian inline with the gregorian calendars.
today is really two weeks ago.
so which calendar do you use
julian (this was in use when most gospel written)
gregorian
or the orginal 365 day calendar with no leap years that was used at jesus time. - macp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3aww cmon, its 2006 anyway, not year 6.
anyway if you look at the bible in the book of revelations, the "number of the beast" is put on people's hands and forehead if they want to buy and sell goods near the end times.
if she really believes the bible, then its time to get straight with the scripture and stop being superstitious.
yes, i believe there is a strong difference between faith in God/Christ and just plain old supersition that isn't supported. the obvious one is, faith in God/Christ is biblically supported, whereas supersition is not. - dbsanfte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm quoting the Oxford Companion to the Bible here:
"The number was arrived at by presenting Nero's Greek name Kaisar Neron in Hebrew letters, which also function as numbers: qsr nrwn; q = 60, s = 100, r = 200, n = 50, w = 6, so qsr nrwn adds up to 666. (Some western manuscripts read "six hundred sixteen" ... likely that they simply dropped the final n: qsr nrw for Kaisar Nero, making 616.)"
You're quoting... some random guy's webpage with zero references. Okay then. - darkecho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Its just an over religous women. She figures everyone in her church will hate her because her son was born on a short hand version of the date (6/6/06) ... Yes the 0 is still there but she is just crazy thats all.
- coding, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That was odd, this story had 66 comments when I clicked on it.
- kimc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's a number, according to wikipedia (and the bible): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Number_of_the_Beast
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2C'mon guys, get this story digged 666 times!
- 5blocksfree, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Digg needs a cancel post button.
- Barlo_Mung, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@aliasunkown
The christians were pretty gruesome in those days too. - redDC143C, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Hmm... I wonder who will be born on 11/23/5813 - that would be such an awesome birthday to have
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, I was kind of bummed too when I just watched that trailer. The new kid looks creepy in a "bad actor" sort of way, not like the original kid who looked creepy in a "his innocense hides his evil" sort of way. Every scene in the trailer happens in the original, with the same freaking dialogue! How lame.
- akira117, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Crazy christians.....
An alien might burst out of your chest!
WWJD if he was born on 6/6/06!!!!
(kill himself) - aliasunknown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And sometimes I think digg is losing it's geek roots....
Well done! - KidVicious, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Couldn't you just write a Bible about superstition? Then it would be Biblically supported.
- 6say6ten6, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2AWWWWW COME ON!!!! I thought it was going to be a new chapter in the Damien series not a remake of the first one!!!!11
- tanxadillo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cool, I didn't know they were remaking the old movie. I thought some one was just making a refrence to the orginal.
- almostmanda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The movie is also coming out on 6/6/06. There are big posters in most major theaters that are very clear about this fact. I doubt the public would even think twice about it if it wasn't part of a major marketing campaign.
- rumor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1you people realize that the significance of 6's comes from them being in sets of three, or multiples of that, not random sets like 4, 5, etc.
oh and in China, 6 is a very lucky number, and a lisence plate with 666666 is supremely lucky. -
