Most Powerful Members on Digg - Revisited with Friend Count
harrymaugans.com — Recalculated by Digg's request... the most powerful members on Digg based on homepage articles from April 19th, 2007 to May 19th, 2007... plus how many friends each user has. Are you listed?
- 234 diggs
- digg it
- AcePup, on 10/11/2007, -17/+2Error 404 page.
- hmaugans, on 10/11/2007, -10/+4Ah, try now. Sorry about that. :) Post was still flagged as draft.
- AcePup, on 10/11/2007, -11/+2Thanks it is there now.
- donwilson2, on 10/11/2007, -5/+1Could've gone more in depth, for example: show how many stories submitted by each user in that time period (total), percentage of articles frontpage'd, etc.
Oh well, nice anyway. - moojj, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4The number of friends you have are not proportional to the number of stories on the front page, it's the number of people who have "befriended" you that relates to it.
It's nice to see I'm 7th on the list. The top 10 is mighty competitive though. - moojj, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Hmmm.. This article has disappeared from the front page. It looks like it's stuck in the world of nowhere.
- IvanB, on 10/11/2007, -8/+21Thanks a lot for this.
- hmaugans, on 10/11/2007, -6/+7Yep, congrats on making the top 10. :)
- sepultura, on 10/11/2007, -6/+18Yup, thanks for taking the time to do this.
- titlesaysitall, on 10/11/2007, -8/+3Oh, oh 120!
- carleethian, on 10/11/2007, -6/+4@IvanB
Can I plleeeaaassseee be your friend too? - Kazanoe, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1You know, really this is a contest to find the least nerdy digger.
Who need friends when you have the tubez?
- sixthplanet, on 10/11/2007, -14/+1Interesting. It would be great to see related DIGG stat articles like: "Number of productive hours squandered while at work." :)
I wonder if DIGG will start to reward the best DIGGers. Afterall, it's the DIGGers who are making DIGG so valuable.- saikhan, on 10/11/2007, -2/+21Welcome newbie.
There once was a time when digg had a top front page submission list but it was eventually removed. Now there is an unofficial one run by a digger:
http://www.efinke.com/digg/topusers.html - oskite, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5Sadly that list is nothing compared to the original. It's only sortable by most homepaged stories, not by any of the other columns, and it's only the top 1000.
The reasons for removing the top list just weren't good enough. We've never had a spam problem, and seriously: who cares if people spend a huge amount of time adding friends and submitting stories that someone else could have? They're not controlling what makes the front page... you are. Maybe if the friends list was renamed to your 'watch list' or something, people wouldn't blindly digg what their friends submit. And we could get back the top users list.
- saikhan, on 10/11/2007, -2/+21Welcome newbie.
- neiltc13, on 10/11/2007, -4/+4I've always thought that the success of people on here should be measured plainly by the total number of diggs their submitted stories receive. Alternatively, they could work out an average diggs per story for each user and rank them that way, maybe based on the last week or whatever.
Sadly, I'm only 236.- mvanhorn, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2I'm a proud #248! woohoo
- mklopez, on 10/11/2007, -4/+12Holy crap!
[comment cut short, going out to celebrate now] - stalinvlad, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14When I say none of you knob-jockeys are my friends I mean it
- zappo1776, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3Nice work - again. Thank you.
- DuhStupid, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8I'm cool.
Not on another geek list. - zappo1776, on 10/11/2007, -4/+3Anyone know of a list somewhere of users who have been banned and why?
- exoendo, on 10/21/2007, -8/+1#29 beyotches!
- digitallysick, on 10/11/2007, -6/+2you guys didn't have to make a list about me, aww, you shouldn't have
- EntropyMan, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Can someone explain to me why anyone should strive to be "most powerful" as opposed to, say, "most respected for their knowledge and/or opinions?" I'm not knocking anyone, but I'm seriously asking why.
I honestly don't get the whole "power" thing when that power is simply to put other people's web pages / writing in front of more digg users. The real power is still in those who write the pages that get widely read, right?
I mean, I'd personally love it if people dugg the stuff I blog about outside of my comments here. But I shouldn't be the one to submit that anyway, assuming it's even worthy of diggs. So I'm happy to just comment on whatever interests me and see what people think.
It's not about the recognition, I guess, but actually making people think about stuff they might not have thought about before. That's what's interesting to me about this whole "democracy 2.0" thing. If that works out (the listening and responding part especially), we might be onto something. But the power thing seems more like a game.
Anyone want to explain it to me?- Junkyarddawg, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Frail egos.
The best thing Digg ever did was remove the "top user" list. People were gaming digg like crazy to get on it, apparently they thought Digg was an online game.
The top user list was also treated as a shopping list by companies wanting to buy Digg publicity, so they'd bribe top submitters to game their stories/products to the frontpage.
The top list was a bad idea, it's good it's gone, and I'm burying this submission. It's too bad Digg can't kill the possibility to make tracker lists like these. Nothing good comes of them.
- Junkyarddawg, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Frail egos.
- tektalk, on 10/21/2007, -0/+4I'm certain that this list represents a fairly small portion of the digg community as a whole, and it isn't a great feeling to know that you're not part of the "elite". Which is also the reason why the top digg users list was removed, so just know that you're still part of the digg community, and the retards who made it and rubs it in should get dugg down quite angrily.
Besides, status is meaningless if your comments are bad, inarticulate, and just irrelevant. - theothereye, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Having lots of friends makes it harder to get to the homepage because your friends vote count less in that case.
- robogobo, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5Congratulations nerds. It would be much more in keeping with the original nature of Digg to focus more on the quality of the stories being Dugg, and less on the prowess of a user to get his story to the front page. Many people use unscrupulous methods just to make their links seen. This just illustrates how Digg has gone down the *****.
- MrBabyMan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2"Many people use unscrupulous methods just to make their links seen."
Do you have any proof of this, or is this just a baseless accusation? Most of the users I know make their links seen because they submit quality content.
- MrBabyMan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2"Many people use unscrupulous methods just to make their links seen."
- jpkones, on 10/21/2007, -7/+5Holy ***** this is gay. One of my favorite things about Digg (or so I thought) was that this Karma ***** didn't exist. Most Powerful?!?! LOL. Man, I'm just here to read cool stories and talk about them with cool people. Keepin track of popularity and *****? Jeez, society is incredible: it turns out geeks are as bad as the jocks from highschool.
btw, if anything, your "numbers" here are inversely proportional to the number of chicks you bang.- justintsmith, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Your comment just gave me a headache
- frant1c, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Times you mentioned the word "*****" in your 50 words comment: 3.
- moojj, on 10/11/2007, -5/+4Woo! 7th!
Not bad for someone who wasn't listed in the top 500 a month ago. - newstart, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5What a way to start your Digg Career :)
- Ouze, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Buried as lame. Although already mentioned by others I concur - would totally like to see a list of top stories by diggs - representing stories that were found interesting by the vast majority of the digg community - then some pathetic e-peen strokefest such as posted. Removing that top 100 diggers was the best thing digg has done yet.
- frant1c, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5http://digg.com/news/popular/30days
Something like that, you mean?
- frant1c, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5http://digg.com/news/popular/30days
- DiggerL, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2"#26 kevinrose (74 Friends)" WTF ?
- JMaelstrom, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Isn't this award going to the people who have the most time to waste? Really, who has enough time in the day to do nothing but browse the web and digg stuff?
Wow - go outside once in a while!
