- crazybrit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8How about we link to the actual article, eh?

- KyleMistry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Someone seems to have woken up on the bitchy, illogical, jealous side of the bed, hm?
- yanked, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Indeed. The whole article, if you read it, is pretty condemnatory. Since I read it before seeing this Digg headline, I was a bit confused about whether this was referring to the same article. "Best Windows Yet" is faint praise indeed.
- marnaq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I heard this 6 years ago.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Best yet, but everything it could, and should be?

I believe he's talking about Google Desktop Search. - drm7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That article (the original WSJ one) was a whole page of "damning with faint praise". After all of the positive comments for Vista, he goes on to say that Apple had all this stuff years ago, and are getting ready to pull ahead AGAIN with Leopard.
Mossberg was trying really hard to be nice to MSFT. - monkeymagik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1take away aero and vista will still be better than xp because it's use of resources are much more efficient
you don't need it just for the eye candy.
the user account system is also way better as well (although copied off linux) - skyhighrockets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was just reading this same article in the WSJ this morning.
Points to the WSJ for uploading the story online as well, even though there isn't as many images as the printed article. (not to mention the typography and readability is better on actual paper) - Nightspark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Some more excerpts:
"After months of testing Vista on multiple computers, new and old, I believe it is the best version of Windows that Microsoft has produced. However, while navigation has been improved, Vista isn't a breakthrough in ease of use. Overall, it works pretty much the same way as Windows XP."
"Nearly all of the major, visible new features in Vista are already available in Apple's operating system, called Mac OS X, which came out in 2001 and received its last major upgrade in 2005. And Apple is about to leap ahead again with a new version of OS X, called Leopard, due this spring."
"There are some big downsides to this new version of Windows. To get the full benefits of Vista, especially the new look and user interface, which is called Aero, you will need a hefty new computer, or a hefty one that you purchased fairly recently. The vast majority of existing Windows PCs won't be able to use all of Vista's features without major hardware upgrades. They will be able to run only a stripped-down version, and even then may run very slowly.
In fact, in my tests, some elements of Vista could be maddeningly slow even on new, well-configured computers." - SystmBetatester, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2its funny how this gets knocked off the front page like anything else that praises vista!
- Cronus6, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Am I the only person left that doesn't like the "Fisher Price" look and runs XP in classic mode?
- the1rave, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5God ***** forbid someone actually likes Microsoft products. Goddamn trolls and MS bashers.
- Wolfboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1funny how it's a dupe of a story that is already on the front page, plus it's little more than blogspam, so it's getting buried...
- JrGhoull, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"But the real question is how many people will buy an upgrade as opposed to the masses who just have an upgrade thrust upon them as old PCs break and die."
the same amount (and even basically the same people) that chosed to do the upgrade to xp. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I love windows... but I can't stand the ui without windowblinds.
- nobody1357, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0the other day xp crashed and I had to delete a file to fix it. so I boot to vista (not sure of version) and tried a search in system32 folder, then some indexing ***** started, which I had to stop and I found the file manually. dunno wtf they were thinking. screw you ms
- bmartin, on 10/12/2007, -20/+13"Its icons look better": 24-bit color?
"windows have translucent borders": I could give a rat's ass.
"Security is supposedly vastly better": *supposedly*
"universal search is now built in": One less choice I have to make, Google's way too hard to use.
"parental controls": OK, there's at least one nice feature.
"and even a slicker version of Solitaire.": 3D animations?
Not worth $400. I'd rather buy an Xbox 360. - Schoffstall, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2HEY!
Windows is awesome if any of you kiddos haven't seen Pirates of Silicon Valley you'd realize Bill Gates isn't a douche hes just a dude trying to help people out.
