What a strange new world you have brought us. - condor85, on 11/20/2008, -1/+22No thanks, I prefer pirated stuff. Makes me seem dangerous.
- Gman1223, on 11/20/2008, -0/+19The man has a good point.
- DavidGX, on 11/20/2008, -2/+15"We are pleased to announce that Mininova is testing a new technology which allows users to download and watch licensed movies and TV shows for free."
I believe it's called THE INTERNET. - evulhotdog, on 11/20/2008, -0/+12Even if they do get good feedback, people aren't going to want to download an exe which can be tainted by a 3rd party and re-uploaded. Although if there was a type of verification system they implemented on the mininova for the Hyper MP's. Plus why would you want to download something with ads if there's products with ads that are the same number of clicks away? Maybe higher quality. But that's really not a big deal most releases aren't bad quality.
- JustinAiken, on 11/20/2008, -2/+12meh. I can download higher quality without exe wrappers... and in-video isn't a good place to put the ads.
- bigfreakinlion, on 11/20/2008, -1/+10Dugg
- dsmx, on 11/20/2008, -0/+8But it definitely isn't safe for work.
- SparQy, on 11/20/2008, -0/+8"Licensed" movies and TV shows??
- Gman1223, on 11/20/2008, -0/+7Boobs are always safe for work.
- purplesawdust, on 11/20/2008, -0/+6This isn't a bad idea since it is a TEST but i hope they work out the kinks in this TEST so this TEST wo-TEST TEST TEST TEST...
This is a TEST people so stop complaining about it. You don't have to download it so stop whining. - Frnnkdlxx, on 11/20/2008, -0/+6Strange. They must see a future after this global financial collapse where the only thing keeping us from rioting is free porn and The Office reruns...
Oh, and free gravy on dry toast in the bread line. - inactive, on 11/20/2008, -0/+5"Why do you smoke cigars?"
Bender: "Cause it makes me look cool." - Sozin, on 11/20/2008, -0/+4Man, those things sure swing low.
- hello3u, on 11/20/2008, -0/+4NSFW.
Too late for me. - Steeple, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3the ONLY time i've wanted to buy something while watching tv is when some documentary plays some killer music as a background, and there's no way to track it down, cause they never credit incidental music.
an exe? seriously, no - benologist, on 11/20/2008, -1/+4No. What mininova sees is a future after piracy, or at least bittorrent and p2p piracy. They've been working for years towards becoming a legitimate CDN for content creators.
It's really the big difference between them and TPB. TPB just talks ***** to distract everyone from their real purpose - profiting off piracy for as long as a legal loophole allows it. Mininova on the other hand is gradually positioning themselves as a real service provider to help both consumers and creators. - zaii7, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3hear hear!
- inactive, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3i c wut u did thar
- mrsteveman1, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3Depends on who you work with and where :D
- InsaneWookie, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3Come on, really, who's going to click an add while watching a movie?
- DeathfireD, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3So this is basically like the old Joost client only with an embedded exe in the file that makes a connection to an advertising server? In a way I think it's a good idea as long as they only show a few ads and make them as short as possible. If this works out and they keep it non-intrusive then I think everyone will win in the end. The only downside is, what will happen if we burn the content to a dvd and watch it on our TV? Would it burn correctly and if it so would it display correctly? Since the 3rd party program has to make an outside connection I assume if we successfully burned our content and watched it on a TV the ads wouldn't show up.
- crushfan, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3Ah, I want to touch those...
... :( - drunkmuppet, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Buried for picture being removed...
- crushfan, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2LOL! "UMD"..
- SawButter, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2No thanks, i'll stick with TPB.
It's the best way to make sure you won't get screwed before you buy CDs, DVDs, Games, Apps. - KevinGross, on 11/20/2008, -2/+4http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_rights_manage ...
but 'free'. No thanks - AzureRise, on 11/20/2008, -2/+4Hm, exe which will eventually be outdated, and limited to a specific OS, no way to convert to run on other devices, plus other limitations. Like one guy mentioned in the comments it's basically DRM. I guess the target is the casual computer user, I'm not interested. A better option would be more like Vuze's ad support, having ads in the actual video file (you can argue that they can be edited out and then the file re-uploaded, however that'll happen either way whether they strip it from the exe or someone else uploads a no drm filled torrent of the same file). This seems kind of useless to me. However it's a good start. If you haven't checked it out Hulu.com streams free legit shows with ads interwoven. While that seems like a better solution it requires an internet connection and you can't save the file.
I'm glad businesses are finally starting to utilize p2p however. And ***** this bug is annoying. The bottom of the text box keeps jumping up and down I can't see what I'm typing. Digg has a lot of bugs. That's how you can always tell when there's an update ;D. - AlekNovi, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Exactly.
- DrunkenPirate34, on 11/20/2008, -1/+2Dude just opened this at school. Not cool.
- Civilizationist, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1What did you think he meant by bewbs?
- AlekNovi, on 11/20/2008, -2/+3I wouldn't mind downloading that 3rd party-exe.
I'm glad someone is looking for win-win solutions too... instead of endless lawsuits, i'm glad they're finally reailizing, this community is here to stay, how can we cooperate with it. - Jerky1312, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1It would have been a better idea to use a short film, instead a feature that is over a gb in size, to get people to test this out. As for what they are trying to accomplish, they simply want to offer more free content and this may be their only option to get this specific content on their CD system. As long its within their controlled environment and it doesn't spread over to other content being distributed, I don't see why anyone should be upset with this move. As Niek said, you don't have to download these type of releases. If you trust the screening process of the Mininova CD (Content Distribution) system, you really have nothing to fear with these releases.
- latticebug, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1I was actually waiting for some kind of ads popping up...
Oh... It's a gif not exe. - inactive, on 11/28/2008, -0/+1she*
- bodger, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Good luck, buy I fear this is going to be the UMD of downloadable content....
- danigal1970, on 09/14/2009, -0/+0i would like to wish my brother and his team all the best... in this business....
- ZoomBoy, on 11/20/2008, -1/+1Nice, but one is quite larger than the other. Offset FTL.
- sleaveofawizard, on 11/20/2008, -1/+1Look I have been an avid downloader for 7 years now and I can understand why someone would come up with this idea…….the media industry is hurting, have a look at some stats and you’ll see that they’re losing a hell a of a lot of money because of torrent networks. To date we can all be thankful that we still have the ability to view content without paying for it, although we really ultimately do by paying for our bandwidth anyway, but the studios aren’t seeing a cent back from us at all. We are lucky that they are still putting out decent quality content, If this system can help give a few dollars back from each viewer and we still can view this content for free I see it as we are still being satisfied and we are also helping the studios put out more fine content for us to consume…..The studios are a business after all and they put out the best content on the planet……….PEACE….KEEP THE CONTENT ROLLING IN AND AROUND THE INTERNET!!!!!…with our help
PS. Remember that this is a trial and I am sure that they will listen to the feedback and take heed. - latticebug, on 11/20/2008, -0/+0If you can see it, you can "save" it. It's the XXI century!
- danigal1970, on 09/14/2009, -0/+0hello i totally agree with this stuff about hypermp.... i am also related to them as well and i do believe it is necessary to save, our music and movie industry... it has been a shamble of mess for many years... i wish all the best for there sucess,,,i do believe this is going to be successful to all the feed back that has been happening recently... congratulations from me to you all...you know who is this love you all....cheers
