- benologist, on 02/20/2009, -3/+27Funny how Mininova can afford 5 salaries and an office on just a little bit more traffic than The Pirate Bay, right?
Oh well, Mininova at least is working hard to bridge the gulf between illegal and legal P2P. They'll end up a legitimate CDN long after TPB is just a page in Wikipedia. - lithera, on 02/20/2009, -1/+13"Europe" might be a better statement. For example the Pirate Bay is located in Sweden. I'm taking a wild guess here, but I think it might have to do something with our laws here.
For example in the Netherlands, downloading movies and music is *not* illegal. Uploading them however is.
Even if a takedown notice hits one of the sites a judge will never grant ridiculous fines like in the US. No way that our equivalent of the RIAA, stichting brein (lol!) in Holland, could sue someone for thousands and thousands of euros in "lost sales" and get away with it . In that area we still have some sanity here thankgod. - aphonik, on 02/19/2009, -4/+16Yarghhh!
- scarwars, on 02/20/2009, -1/+12don't give me that crap about the WTO pressuring Sweden..
Sweden is part of the European Union.
If America wants to pressure Sweden with WTO scare tactics it means the threat goes out to the whole EU.. and frankly, America doesn't have a lot to scare us with.
Infact, America owes us so much money we should probably threaten you guys into submission. - j4rcher, on 02/20/2009, -0/+10Sweden != Switzerland.
- anothrnbdy, on 02/20/2009, -1/+9Dugg for my favorite torrent site getting some upgrades.
- spookyttws, on 02/20/2009, -1/+8I haven't noticed any real layout changes, a few buttons may be bigger and the tables may be smaller or cleaner, but that could just also be in my mind, or that I accidentally hit the keyboard shortcut that decreases my font size. The site looks very much the same to me, but as they cite, it has more to do with conforming to standards and ad placement then it does overall change. Not that I'm complaining I use their service on a daily basis and have no real complaints (well, it would obviously be nice if people in general seeded more, but they have no control over that, and I'd hate to see a public tracker institute ratio limits.)
- benologist, on 02/20/2009, -4/+11TPB is doomed... if not by the trial then by the Swedish government which'll be pressured until they change their policies and close it down. The TPB guys know it too that's why they've been trying to transfer their userbase to the strictly-legal websites they've launched over the last year or two.
- inactive, on 02/20/2009, -3/+9hard to believe that 1 tiny little house is where it all happens.
Netherlands fftw! tiesto and armin! - darkism, on 02/20/2009, -0/+3Snake oil trash.
- efitz11, on 02/20/2009, -0/+3encryption only fools your isp from throttling your bandwidth thinking you're torrenting. it doesn't make you anonymous or make you harder to "catch"
- anothrnbdy, on 02/20/2009, -4/+7You're fooling yourself if you think TPB is going anywhere anytime soon.
- greenspans, on 02/21/2009, -0/+2or digg the actual post instead...
http://blog.mininova.org/articles/2009/02/19/site- ... - TheScreamer, on 02/20/2009, -0/+2My first thought was "counting on TPB losing their case?". No way, man... TPB 4ever!
- theaceoffire, on 02/20/2009, -0/+2Argh, me planks be a swash bucklin over dis joyous news!
- Philbert, on 02/20/2009, -0/+2According to Azureus Wiki:
"This feature does NOT provide anonymity and only very limited confidentiality, i.e. if somebody is in possession of the correct infohash he can obtain your IP/Port combination from public sources like a tracker or from other clients via PEX he will be able to connect to you as usual. Only a passive listener can't determine what you're downloading. " - schmiggyjk, on 03/06/2009, -0/+1idiots...
- theaceoffire, on 02/21/2009, -0/+1I didn't know that.
Well, maybe they don't send me notices since I pay for the fastest connection available, and they just don't care...
Sorry bout that. - schmiggyjk, on 03/06/2009, -0/+1Ya your info is pretty much shoddy. I pay for the fastest available too, it has nothing to do with that. And there is NO protection from public trackers unless you are using a out of country seed server.
- inactive, on 02/21/2009, -0/+1Mininova's search feature is so precise whereas TPB's is all over the place. I wish Mininova would give you the option to search torrent descriptions and TPB would give you the option to hone your results to just torrent titles. They're both great sites.
- IDcool, on 02/20/2009, -1/+1Great
- silfiriel, on 02/20/2009, -1/+1the layout is nicer, although not revolutionary but it seems that it loads faster and easier, usually my browser got slower when mininova was open
- schmiggyjk, on 02/20/2009, -3/+33 of my 4 DMCA notices have come thanks to Mininova. This is why I now stick to private trackers.
- Baffles, on 02/20/2009, -3/+1Use safepeer or peerguardian.
- theaceoffire, on 02/20/2009, -5/+21. Change the ports you use to something non standard.
2. Encrypt your torrents (Its normally an options you can turn on).
Never got a notice, and I torrent the hell out of my connection. - anonymousmedic, on 02/20/2009, -7/+2This is my stupidity, but why are all these Torrent sites Headquartered in the Netherlands or Switzerland?
- pezangel, on 02/19/2009, -18/+3This is the trafiic
