- inactive, on 11/18/2008, -2/+38all hail mininova
- satyarth, on 11/18/2008, -3/+31What do a pirate and a pimp have in common?
They both say 'yo ho'. - purplesawdust, on 11/18/2008, -1/+22It is up
- the2989, on 11/18/2008, -1/+21Mininova rules.
- PleaseJustDie, on 11/18/2008, -0/+11I prefer mininova myself, I just have better luck finding what I'm looking for with more seeds on there. If I can't find it on mininova then I check TPB.
- richgustavson, on 11/18/2008, -6/+16TPB
- Checkerd, on 11/18/2008, -2/+11Yes! I can't wait for the futu!
- crownedgriffin, on 11/18/2008, -2/+10This was driving me crazy trying to get my Top Gear fix. They went down just as the shows finished airing in the UK and Australia. Luckily there are a zillion other torrent sites, but I still prefer Mininova.
- shakebabies, on 11/18/2008, -1/+8thanks we will :)
- inactive, on 11/18/2008, -1/+8Sweet, it was crawling on Saturday.
- skrowl, on 11/18/2008, -0/+7Agreed. Pirate Bay devastates MiniNova in terms of traffic.
- NextLust, on 11/18/2008, -1/+8"If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine"
Sorry, just had to. - dignews, on 11/18/2008, -1/+7Have you ever used the 'Content Distribution' part of the site. None of the torrents there are illegal, so not everyone who uses the site is using it for illegal purposes.
- pipsmooth, on 11/18/2008, -0/+6Only UK viewers can use iplayer I'm afraid
- xsecretfiles, on 11/18/2008, -0/+5I've noticed it was up and down over the weekend...
- Clbull, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4http://www.instantrimshot.com/
- b1ffr43p, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4It's back! The futu is now!
- the2989, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4Who cares about what site is better. If anything, they're both on the same team.
- SteveMax, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4According to Alexa (yeah, I know), Mininova is ranked #82 and TPB is #123. Despite TPB being more popular (as in "mindshare"), all statistics I could find show Mininova ahead of it in traffic.
- supers, on 11/18/2008, -1/+5Hate to break it to you, PeerGuardian will not stop the RIAA/MPAA from busting your ass. They can still see your IP in the swarm and how much bandwidth you're using. This is public tracker data.
Another case of security by obscurity. - theOster, on 11/18/2008, -0/+3trade paperback?
- kingmustard, on 11/18/2008, -5/+8Zing!
- alex7575, on 11/18/2008, -3/+6Keep being uneducated, Pirating is not the same as stealing.
- MCMLXXXII, on 11/18/2008, -0/+2I still reminisce about those old days when suprnova was still around.
- uberchaoslord, on 11/18/2008, -0/+2Yeah but people who make stuff up to inflate their own (or their own site's) worth piss me off.
- cliffski, on 11/18/2008, -1/+3tell it to a judge dumbass
- camintmier, on 11/18/2008, -1/+3I was kinda worried that they were under an RIAA/MPAA DDos or something like that... Glad to know my worries are unfounded.
Just pulled up the site. It loaded, but it was kinda slow loading. Guess they're still playing around with the wiring. - Fartag, on 11/18/2008, -0/+2Moblock is the nearest thing to peerguardian I've heard of for Linux. It reads peerguardian format files, uses iptables directly, and can auto-update lists.
For K/Ubuntu it's not in the main repos though so it's more in the pain-in-the-ass-to-initially-setup category:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MoBlock - PleaseJustDie, on 11/18/2008, -0/+2I use Azureus on Linux, it can download a blacklist of IPs and block them. Still not perfect, but better than nothing.
- sodade, on 11/18/2008, -0/+2Yeah, i kinda figured that it was no panacea. So? How do smart pirates download these days?
I went from BBSs to FTPs to web links to IRC to usenet to bit torrent and now that most stuff is widely available, I am suddenly afraid of the corporate goonsquad. I guess there are anon proxies and member only bit torrent sites, but that stuff takes way too much time for the once in a month downloader. - Ratteler, on 11/18/2008, -1/+2Member only sites are collections of data that LINK YOU to what you download. If/When the site get's seized and shut down, there is a TON of data under your screen name that link to your IP address.
You might as well mail the Terrorist a check now. - Swellin, on 11/18/2008, -1/+2I had a bad feeling, thought maybe they got raided. Glad to know its up.
- cliffski, on 11/18/2008, -1/+2putting it in CAPS REALLY MAKES THAT ***** SEEM SO TRUE1111111111!!!!!!
- Boing, on 11/18/2008, -0/+1You should set up an RSS feed off of Finalgear.com for your Top Gear fix. It will automatically download all the new Top Gear episodes, whether it be the original or the Australian version. It also does Fifth Gear and I'm going to assume that it will include the US version when that finally comes out. All you have to do is leave uTorrent, or whatever client you use, open. Simple.
- BluesFan, on 11/18/2008, -1/+2Wasn't it Mininova that was supposed to encrypt there site or was that a different torrent site?
- SPRFRKR, on 11/18/2008, -0/+1Yeah, but he never really followed up on that threat did he? He just made a few cameos after and not much else. I was expecting some wrath from beyond...
- neodorian, on 11/18/2008, -0/+1When it comes to this sort of thing, I tend to Be The Junkie.
- Aleman360, on 11/19/2008, -1/+2So by not pirating stuff I'm supporting the RIAA/MPAA? Nice logic.
- InfernoX, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1Oh ***** I remember supernova, downloaded my first torrent from there.
- Sisko41, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1raided tv-links style.
- inactive, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1Can you invite me to what.cd? I don't know what is all the fuzz about..
- Cosmos7, on 11/23/2008, -0/+1Do you have msn ?? what's your email.
- sodade, on 11/18/2008, -2/+2Doesn't the fact that it is "the leading bit torrent search engine" make it more likely that the RIAA will bust you?
BTW - why is there no PeerGuardian for Linux? - embryodb, on 11/18/2008, -1/+1i am addicted to information as well. i need my fix.
- scabbers, on 11/18/2008, -1/+1I often find Mininova is better for 'zero day' (lol) TV episodes
- inactive, on 11/18/2008, -2/+2sharing ≠stealing
- krwlngindark, on 11/18/2008, -1/+1Insta Trim!
- alex7575, on 11/19/2008, -1/+1Cliffski,
You're a class A moron. Go get an education. -
