- kweeky, on 11/02/2007, -0/+33We interrupt this news bullitin to bring you this special announcement: "Seed ya leeching bastards!"
- gogza, on 11/02/2007, -1/+33Before we replace TV, can we get the ISPs to stop throttling torrents, please?
- coolboy0286, on 11/02/2007, -7/+26Woohoo, go Mininova. Someday bit torrent will replace TV as a whole.
- inactive, on 11/02/2007, -2/+19No. Actually, HELL no. Something will eventually replace TV, but it certainly won't be bittorrent. Too many people are too stupid for that to happen.
- rolosworld, on 11/02/2007, -1/+15nothing replaces TV's.. just like nothing replaced movie theaters... or books.. or radios...etc
- chillypacman, on 11/02/2007, -1/+10I sincerely doubt that, I think the future is going youtubes way. Video on streaming demand, not video on seeding demand.
- reed311, on 11/01/2007, -0/+8Can anyone name any films that this company has produced? Before you guys start proclaiming the end of tv and film as we know it (as you do every time Trent Reznor opens his mouth), you may want to look at how much actual weight this company pulls. As far as I can tell, this company is small time and has put out no movies. So, for all we know this could be a company started by one guy and a video camera.
- ryllharu, on 11/01/2007, -0/+5Typically, it's not a choice. There is AT&T DSL (if you're close enough to one of the relays) or Cable (which means you're stuck with whichever company has the geographic monopoly). FIOS only if you're extremely lucky.
- inactive, on 11/02/2007, -0/+5We now return back to your 100GB Porn Collection.
- grinndaddy, on 11/01/2007, -0/+4Perhaps this will help Comcast realize BitTorrent is not the enemy... But probably not: http://www.grinn.net/blog/dev/2007/10/comcast-vs-b ...
- billmccartney, on 11/02/2007, -0/+2There is actually nothing stopping something in the middle. It is quite probable that some peer to peer browser plugin naturally grows from what youtube is today.
- KibibyteBrain, on 11/01/2007, -0/+2Well, I'm sure the TV networks would be slightly more happy about even user distribution of content on BT right now if people didn't edit out the ads before posting stuff online...that seems to be the main difference between an eye watching it on his TV and one watching it off a BT download to the network.
- Haohmaru, on 11/01/2007, -0/+1What do you mean by TV? Broadcast? Cable? Satellite? The method of delivery made change, but never "TV" And besides, the current method of getting TV shows and movies via bittorrent sucks from an ease-of-use stand point.
- evildeadguy, on 11/01/2007, -0/+1I really dont think it matters who fired the shot heard 'round the world, what matters is the fact that it is heard.
- robdiggity, on 11/01/2007, -1/+2Really? What are the terms of this deal? Who is making what money, from what revenue streams, and how much?
- p2pblog, on 11/01/2007, -3/+4Looks like this won't be the last thing we hear from Mininova this week:
http://digg.com/tech_news/Mininova_clocks_three_bi ... - Aiwanei, on 11/02/2007, -2/+3nothing has replaced those other forms but there have been shifts in market share of them. Let us take radio as an example. We originally had AM and that was it, all the music, talk whatever was broadcasted over AM radio. Then when FM radio was introduced everyone was saying that AM radio would die. While this was not true, all the major music stations moved to FM and many talk stations and the smaller or new stations stayed on FM. As a whole FM is many times more popular then AM is. Now satellite, the jury is still out on that one, many people who have it love it, but it is taking time for people to move over because what they could get for free before, now they are having to pay and that is a tough pill to swallow. But you can see that as new technologies come along the market share of it's predecessors goes down. TV has seen the amount of viewers drop significantly over the past 2 or three years and that can be directly attributed to DVR's, Online Piracy, or even the companies streaming their own content such as ABC, NBC and so on do. So while none of these technologies may be replaced very soon, improvements in the technology or a change in how the medium is distributed to the consumer will start to dwindle down the market share of that medium until it is next to nothing.
- zhulien, on 11/01/2007, -0/+1is MiniNova actually going to distribute it or just a torrent file? ie: a torrent file is like someone telling someone else they can get a movie down the road at a particular shop versus distributing it, actually taking the movie somewhere to somewhere else...
- Rustbelt, on 11/01/2007, -1/+2The basic business plan isn't changing if ad dollars are still paying for programming. How is viewing programming via Bitorrent or any other internet based provider different from viewing programming on NBC, CBS or cable broadcasters? You can only watch content once it is released (same as now) and you can do it on demand, which is possible with some cable programming. What's the advantage? What am I missing?
- murf43143, on 11/01/2007, -0/+1Well done it sounds like.
- inactive, on 11/01/2007, -0/+1***** no. Streaming is ***** on slower connection and there are a few episodes that i like rewatching. i rather not waste bandwidth on watching it each and every time. Besides downloaded avi's allows me to build up a DVD collection.
- QuikSilvr, on 11/01/2007, -0/+1If it's just a video file I'm sure you can skip ahead. If it's streamed then I'd say an hour after the show is over, maybe less.
- cornface, on 11/01/2007, -1/+1The proliferation of asynchronous internet connections are a bigger impediment to bittorrent than any movie/recording industry finger wagging.
- Merick, on 11/01/2007, -0/+0So is mininova paying the production costs? Or does the show have commercials? If it's the latter how long do you think it will take for someone to edit the commercials out and then seed it?
- ravencin, on 12/25/2007, -0/+0well its a wise choice by mininova http://torrentsmininova.com
- diggermedoo, on 11/01/2007, -0/+0Another production company (from Argentina no less) already did this … back in 2005.
Rather than lob their videos onto someone else’s torrent aggregator, they actually set up their own torrent tracker.
And their show, which is actually really hot, is in full 1080p HDTV!
Enjoy it:
http://www.mariposaHD.tv - captaindigger, on 11/01/2007, -2/+2Good for them. While mininova is allowing people up upload content for the site and downloading it for nothing. This TV show is making money.
- superkickstart, on 11/02/2007, -3/+3If you cant beat them, join them.
- kirashira, on 11/02/2007, -2/+1Go sign up for usenet then. Newsgroups pwn bittorrent.
- spc4, on 11/02/2007, -1/+0Anyone have a mirror?
- cash0utcurse, on 11/01/2007, -3/+1tl;dr
- geogia456, on 11/01/2007, -2/+0It's good Mininova Closes Distribution Deal for TV-Show while it only concern with profit, Marl at millionairematch said, and ony allowing upload not allowing download.
- cash0utcurse, on 11/01/2007, -8/+2Funny how idiotic comments get dugg up just because they are first. How could bittorrent ever replace TV?
- inactive, on 11/01/2007, -9/+3Not our fault you got crappy isp. Your choice, live with it.
