So who saw South Park yesterday anyway? - bightchee, on 11/03/2007, -4/+62I have the 3 billionth .torrent file. Any bidders?
- Eivo, on 11/03/2007, -2/+41Porn
- inactive, on 11/03/2007, -1/+36Congratulations ! I'm sure the numbers will grow every month.
- OBKenobi, on 11/03/2007, -8/+42No need to promote this kind of thing.
- cosmotic, on 11/03/2007, -0/+33I don't know if barrier is the right word. Maybe milestone.
- Koldkompress, on 11/03/2007, -0/+28Yeah, because without Digg, Reddit and other social bookmarking sites, the RIAA was blissfully unaware of this money-blight "Pee-two-pee".
- taintedzodiac, on 11/03/2007, -1/+25I say we should take this 3 billionth .torrent file and mark it with an asterisk. With numbers like that, Mininova has to be on steroids.
- phillyjo, on 11/03/2007, -0/+22And to celebrate, they will post the uploaders IP address :D
Goes to show, all this anti-piracy movement isn't really stopping much. - Nicksname1, on 11/02/2007, -0/+15Imaginatiooooon.....Immmmmmmaaaaaaginnnaaation...Imagination...Imaginaaaaaatioon.
Wait what's a Butters? - murf43143, on 11/03/2007, -2/+17I'll trade you a million .ed2k files for your one .torrent.
- inactive, on 11/03/2007, -2/+16No need for thanks, glad i helped them reach that goal haha
- noseeme, on 11/03/2007, -1/+15Hooray piracy! :D
- arma, on 11/02/2007, -1/+15He has a point, whoever uses those illegal sites needs to keep it down if they want to live happily.
- redrock34, on 11/03/2007, -3/+16Could have been increased tenfold if they would just allow porn torrents!
- nolesfan247, on 11/02/2007, -0/+13The graph on the page is nearly a perfect power function. I think that it will be pretty impressive to see how Mininova grows in the next few months and into 2008...
- flashboy131, on 11/02/2007, -1/+13Porn is one of those things you're on your own with. otherwise it just gets creepy.
- inactive, on 11/02/2007, -0/+10Actually, I wonder what the 3 billionth torrent was.........
Any way we could find out? - gibsonic, on 11/03/2007, -0/+10so does this now qualify it to be named "Supernova" ?
- actorboy, on 11/02/2007, -0/+9And in other news, content owners set their sites on mininova.
- Jerky1312, on 11/03/2007, -1/+10It was downloaded by the RIAA and it was called How.To.Integrate.Your.Business.Model.With.New.Technology.torrent, but unfortunately the torrent's uploader (Media Defender Group) stopped seeding the torrent at 99%.
- unrealmp3, on 11/02/2007, -0/+7That's why a tool named common sense might be a good acquisition :)
- solid12345, on 11/03/2007, -0/+6The musical?
Geez, what next will people be uploading old school yearbooks? - actorboy, on 11/02/2007, -0/+5You should really check most artists to see if they would rather have a few cents or nothing.
- murf43143, on 11/02/2007, -1/+6Two days ago...
- 2000, on 11/02/2007, -0/+5If they can stay at the same rate of growth they have had in recent month, they can hit 10,000,000,000 by this time next year!

- FyreGoddess, on 11/02/2007, -1/+6So do you make a point to purchase CDs from artists that record on independent labels? I ask because most people who participate in internet music piracy don't think about things like that and assume that once a song is recorded, it should immediately be part of the public domain.
Musicians make their money in a lot of different ways, touring, merchandise, CD sales, they're all part of the greater picture. People spend $50+ to see a concert, but how much of *that* money actually goes into the artists pockets? Do you know? How much of it goes for overhead, employees, travel expenses?
Do you know the actual breakdown of where the money for CDs goes to? The standard piracy line speaks to what the artists themselves make, but what about the overhead costs? What about the editing, the promotion, the equipment used in creating that CD? You assume that you're punishing the record labels, but you're not. You're affecting everyone involved in the production of that CD. - glitch47, on 11/03/2007, -1/+5and how are filmmakers supposed to make money by touring?
- solid12345, on 11/03/2007, -0/+4Except people are stealing more than music. What about all you lamers stealing software? These companies and their workers have no other way for revenue but to sell software and you steal directly from them.
- DonTazeMeBro, on 11/03/2007, -0/+4That is alot of ad revenue...
- inactive, on 11/03/2007, -0/+4And still, lawsuits, content filtering by ISP's and any other ***** to try and scare off the loyal users of file sharing fails miserably.
- kyouteki, on 11/02/2007, -0/+4HA! If it were just the RIAA and MPAA I was hurting, I'd pirate all day and all night!
Too bad there are artists and editors and musicians and actors involved. - kevyn, on 11/02/2007, -0/+4dragged that trilogy on a bit to long? how long would you like the trilogy to be??
- SmilingJess, on 11/03/2007, -2/+6Power to the torrents -- thank you to all users who share information via torrents.
- simpleid, on 11/02/2007, -0/+4it's because isohunt and others began blacklisting the US from all of their trackers. i freaking hate that they did that. something about the pirate bay doesn't feel right to me and i find myself on mininova more often as well.
- PA42, on 11/02/2007, -0/+3@solid, glitch, Fry and actorboy:
I, like you, have some moral values that tell me not to take what doesn't belong to me at the expense of others, but most of the people on Digg do not. As soon as you pick out the gaping wholes in the pirates twisted logic (as each of you has), they will make up some other entitled argument to justify piracy. It's amazing the lengths people will go to justify stealing. - actorboy, on 11/02/2007, -0/+3Not apples to oranges because the pro-piracy stance is consistently justified with "go to concerts, buy swag, that's where they make their money." Still, I have yet to run across any pro-piracy folks who claim to only pirate music while paying for every movie or piece of software they have. If you want it to be apples to oranges, then make it apples to oranges in practice.
- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -0/+3Is it really grammar? I thought it was a spelling mistake.
- murf43143, on 11/02/2007, -1/+4I too helped reach this goal.
- bightchee, on 11/02/2007, -5/+8I would have guessed some lame anime.
- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -0/+3Probably the best 3 consecutive South Park episodes I've ever seen. I didn't think they dragged it on too long, I couldn't wait to see the next episode. Perfectly executed, and I loved the ending of the last episode.. brilliance.
- CAMiasm, on 11/02/2007, -0/+3He's not trying to be a goody two shoes. He wants us to stop advertising how much traffic the site gets so it doesn't shut down. He wants to continue pirating in peace without worrying about police agencies giving these sites a hard time.
- jriggs420, on 11/02/2007, -0/+3actually, I think 'sites' works in this context
- Travelsonic, on 11/02/2007, -0/+3It's awful... wait.... where did it all go? If we were stealing ***** from each other, where did it go?
I'm sure any statistic you make would be as unprovable as the others out there. - inactive, on 11/03/2007, -0/+2Well really it's just a fund raiser for hurting industries.
- JeremyTTU, on 11/03/2007, -0/+2Even if it did, another site will rise up in its place. Honestly, you can't stop the torrents.
- munky100, on 11/02/2007, -0/+2I downloaded "Oklahoma" from Mininova 1 day 2 hours ago...
- oxygen911, on 11/03/2007, -0/+2LONG LIVE THE RIAA
- FyreGoddess, on 11/02/2007, -1/+3Since no one has come back to this, I'm going to go ahead and link to the breakdown of the cost of a CD.

Yes, this is just with music, but the concept applies across the board. It's also not a couple of pennies that the artists are losing from piracy. Not that it'll make much difference to those attempting to justify piracy, but at least the information is out there. -
