- Hexxagonal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1that's a great idea for poor areas such as those in Milwaukee. The North AND South sides could benefit from this a great deal.

citywide wi-fi plans, including those now in process of being developed in the anticipated City of Chicago Wi-FI RFP expected "in May" in Draft Form. It will be interesting to see how City of Chicago RFP Work Requirements relate to communication with other city/government agencies, like Chicago Public Schools, City Colleges, Chicago Transit Authority, Chicago Housing Authority and Chicago Park District. With stress-overloads on k-12 school systems in getting connectivity and supporting daily use by teachers and administrators, much less by students, it is interesting to see Milwaukee's parallel communication structure for students (as well as teachers and administrators in thinly-wired facilities). Milwaukee libraries have been leader in Student Locker Room software tools, and it would be interesting to see how a combination of Wi-Max access and Locker Room Software (a bunch of document capacity and other applications, probably on a memory card by now) might work for students. Will be interesting to see how individual student, teacher, administrator privacy is handled, along with need for powerful links to Instructional Support Centers, big digital online Content Catalogs and the like, which have been the focus of discussion in Illinois this winter-spring with proposals for distributing laptops/memory cards to large numbers of 7th grade students (lack of funding has delayed this) along with much teacher training on access and content delivery options.
