- 7of7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Microsoft and Google aren't even in the same category. While Microsoft has been big for like 20 years (that's about 500 in tech years), Google is still just a theoretical company with potential. Honestly Google is nothing until they really start focusing on programs as opposed to web stuff. Until then, they're banished to the net realm. And don't say anything about Google Earth, we both know it's useless if you don't have an internet connection.
- bonlebon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They'll sure stick it to google those confidentiality contracts are air tight, google surely pay out of court, cha ching for M$.
- twistymcgee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If you are a lawyer fresh out of school I'd suggest applying to work at the Microsoft legal dept. It should be a pretty busy dept since everyday I read about them involved in a new lawsuit. Of course it's usually someone suing them so it's nice to see something different now and then =)
- TetrisKid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Corporations aren't inherently evil... it's just that the power given to the people who run them often breeds corruption (not to mention greed).
- kfstickman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Geeze everyone is sour over China and in Microsoft's case everyone else including China. There isn't a bad talking business news these days that doesn't say China.
- laurentlasalle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0CA—LICE...
- Rojahon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't think Google should be liable. Even if they encouraged him, they didn't sign any agreement with microsoft. If the dude wanted to violate his agreement that's his problem.
- shack95, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And this should be an issue how?
Hmmm MS has "hired" executives (or lead developers) from how may companies??? Dec,IBM,Sybase,Borland,Novell,RedHat, etc... This is actually normal for them and the industry. - TKDWILSON, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"""They'll sure stick it to google those confidentiality contracts are air tight, google surely pay out of court, cha ching for M$."""""
I would argue that Microsoft's core competency is operating systems. That being said, I would argue I could work for any company that doesn't make operating systems. Does Microsoft really make money on MSN crap like email and search? Not much I am sure. Was this guy even in the same type of work? Did he break any confidentiality? Probably not.
ERic Wilson - MEvsYOU, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Finally it's time for Microsoft to sue people too.
- hendoz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think 7of7 has it wrong. Google developes for all people, not MAC or PC. They are the where its at and where it will be at in the future. M$ is starting to spread its self to thin and will soon be too thin to compete on all fronts. Its time M$ regrouped and made Longhorn "The" priority and stopped trying to compete with everyone for everything. Ho many items have been promised and removed from Longhorn already? If they don't get their sh17 together soon they will be number 3-4 in every categorie instead of number one in a couple categories.
- bonlebon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Those confidentiality contracts include clauses that you can't work for a competitor for a period of 1 year, if you quit you have to work in a different area than the one from your expertise. Don't blame me blame the lawyers.
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Lol, and the war has begun!!
This should be good...
I'm sure Microsoft has just been itching to try and find a way to stick one to google. - j_bellone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A contract is a contract. The only one in the wrong is the guy who breached the contract, unless of course, Google told him they would pay the bills. Then they are probably legally liable for doing so. IANAL though.
- jamsea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Because Microsoft needs more money...
- fourcorners, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't see google wasting money like those in the dot com bust. Tey again.
- fourcorners, on 10/12/2007, -0/+07of7 come on buddy, where is your head at? Google exceeded their expected profit margin last quarter. They are very smart about making money mostly because they know how to do things right.
Just because you don't notice how they make money doesn't mean they don't. Their expenses are just as much vaporware as you claim their brand is. They have so much backing right now they could go any direction they wanted. And apparently a software company isn't it.
Maybe Microsoft is vaporware, after all, code is just ones and zeros it's not as real as sugar and water that people consume every day at a highly marked up price and labeled cola. But Microsoft still brings in more revenue than that real product.
Vapor can be an asset. - G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0True, why is google at fault? The only reason I could think of why Microsoft would be sueing anyone would be if the employee had a contract dispute, which wouldn't make Google liable.
To say that Google has potential, you have to be completly retarted.
Microsoft comes up with little innovation. They take what they think would sell by using ideas from other products, and meshing them into one brand. Think about it, MSN Music, 95% of the Windows XP features, a server OS, a media center OS, spyware tools, internet browser, etc. - adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think Microsoft is just worried about google. They know with all the hires that Google has been doing that theres a real chance they could roll out their own OS. And since googles big thing has been functionality and stability, this would be a serious threat to Microsoft. You'd have the the ease of use of windows, and the stability and open source side of Linux. Very dangerous combo for Microsoft.
- fourcorners, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0s/ Tey = Try
- fourcorners, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0adml_shake as much as every geek would love to have an OS that would run on non proprietary hardware based on *nix and with an intuitive, user friendly GUI plus still be able to run our games and windows apps.. (deep breathe) I don't think it's going to happen. We can dream I guess.
-Tech Utopia - cawpin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I hate evil companies like Wal*Mart as much as the next guy, but the market economy feeds off evil, so what're you gonna do about it?" - 7of7
Yeah, damn those companies that bring quality affordable goods to the public! Are you insane? Walmart is one of the biggest success stories ever. I don't like some of MS's practices, but they have done the same thing. They brought quality cheaply. They have done more for the computer industry than anyone. - carlic578, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree with adml_shake longhorn is going to be the next windows ME. They promised a lot and there was no change to the user interface.
- enfact, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i love you google, kick their ass. Open Source needs to open a nice wound in that company, make it a little more fair. Somebody please get Intel too before they get more out of control, take apple, kill the GPU industry and push all other chip makers into bankrupcy.....
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0fourcorners, well I would just like to give them props for trying atleast. Microsoft needs something to get their asses in gear. They have what 2 things in the pipe as of now? The 360 and Longhorn? Longhorn is starting to turn into a joke, they've dropped all the stuff that made it interesting. It's just gonna end up being ME'06.
- 7of7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I really don't see what's so great about Google as a company. Honestly, everything they do is done by other companies as well or better. Furthermore, anyone who claims Google is innovative doesn't notice that everything they do that is above and beyond search engine has either been around as long as the net has or is the carcass of another company. Look at Google Earth. Look at Picasa. Google is just the company that people who want to be tech trendy like jsut as MS is trendy to hate.
- 7of7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0 Wheras Microsoft makes a product and sells it in the real world, Google makes a product, then gives it away for free on the internet. That fact immediately diminishes the influence of the company. Furthermore, as Google is nothing but a vaporcompany at this point, they are no different from pets.com except that they don't actually have any product.
- 7of7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I think you guys just want to see Google as the white knight in this whole crazy tech thing. If you want a white night, go find a different economic system. I hate evil companies like Wal*Mart as much as the next guy, but the market economy feeds off evil, so what're you gonna do about it?
- 7of7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I seem to remember a time when there were many companies that had huge financial backing but didn't do anything tangible. I think it was the late '90s. I'm not sure what happened after that it's all a little hazy. Doesn't it strike you as odd that Google's entire value is as a company that might be able to do something..sometime. I just don't see any future earning potential. Thus I see the high stock value as being run up by speculation.
- 7of7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0^^ I guess this is only me reacting to people seeming to wander around in a herd worshipping things. A couple of other examples: Ipod, Apple, Linux, Harry Potter, Vans, Converse, Kevin Rose. I have nothing against any of these things and would be happy with all of them were there not mounds of people worshipping them just to be trendy.
