Microsoft’s lame attempt at advertising.
foronceandforall.com — After their pathetic Ads for the Zune, Microsoft manages to come up with something even lamer, this time in India (this shot is from the Times of India) to promote their Genuine Software. Not only is the entire thing ironic, it's just stupid.

- bennybertow, on 10/12/2007, -10/+5Using a Windows error dialog in a Windows advertising... what will they do next? Advertise on Times Square with a bluescreen? Oh, I guess they already did...
http://digg.com/tech_news/Biggest_Blue_Screen_Of_Death_In_The_World - phjr, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13I agree: using Microsoft software stands in the way.
- wild, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3What does he mean it has nothing to do with Microsoft software? Clearly that machine has a window installed.
- saleem, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3always use Windows when CNC'ing and machining.
- fourcylthrill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The Haas machines control actually run a shell app on top of DOS 8.2! Just think how much money MS could make if they upgraded all those machines. Then I could blame Microsoft for the crashes instead of me just not paying attention.
- datastorageguy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Lame attempt at hosting a picture of said lame attempt at advertising

That said, this article strikes me as picking on Microsoft just for the sake of picking on Microsoft.
Bandwagon hoppers.
Buried as lame.- JibberGeorge, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Exactly. Trying to MAKE the ad funny with side commentary is even more sad than the ad.
- gilbes, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2While every digg story seems to have some editorial slant, can we keep ***** like this off the front page. This belongs in an Opions/Editorials section.
This is not news as stated.
I could care less that many diggers have a blind, uninformed, ignorant rancor for Microsoft while at the same time have a deep appreciative love for piracy and the infirior technolgoies and means used to spread it. - jubilee123, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1***** turds

Not only is it ironic that one can just click OK and continue using the software, but the characters have nothing to do with using any Microsoft application, looks more like some sort of lab. And if you read the contact details, you can get Genuine software by calling Ms.Preeti at the numbers given. So everyone go on and call Ms.Preeti to get overpriced Microsoft Windows to give you the technological advantage over all the other companies, courtesy Microsoft.

Edit: Looks like I was beat. Stupid FTP client. - azharc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I don't get why all you people buried it. Oh well, the people have spoken, although you guys just look for an excuse to bury stuff.
- uownedge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I chuckled at the ad.
I think the author of the article could have done better, though. I think what we should take away from this is a lack of creativity, which seems to be the norm from Microsoft anymore. Remember back when Windows 95 came out? They had the "Start it up!" commercials? Yes, they were kind of cheesy/dorky/whatever, but they were creative none the less. Whatever happened to that?
I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I need something more than Steve Ballmer throwing a few chairs to get me hopped up about buying some new software. Show us something original! Show us something exciting! Or at the very least, try to make it look fun.
That's what made the Apple commercials so great. Sure, they were cheesy, and infuriated all of the Microsoft fanboy types, but they were creative, and they drew a lot of interest.
Not trying to beat up on Microsoft or anything, it's just the way I see it. They used to be a lot better at selling the product. - TheFattony, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1There is a SMS code and number in the add
I had my coworker tray it
We will know in a bit what happens
He sent ORIG to 8888 - techguru2006, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah this ad is definitely lame, but Microsoft has pretty good XBox 360 ads in India. Below is a sample:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wj6MTiSkNo - mgmead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If I get Genuine Microsoft I will EITHER:
1 - discover why my friend and I have shrunk to tiny proportions in front of this giant microwave
2 - figure out whether microwaving livestock actually makes them explode
3 - realize that no matter how often I push the buttons on my remote, my giant microwave is still not my tv
