- greatblackowl, on 10/12/2007, -35/+243There should be a Microsoft/ Windows section of digg.
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -32/+105Well, they could resort to blatant lies and FUD like our favourite fruit who has quite a talent for it.
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -18/+91So, basically what Microsoft is saying, is that 1 out of 10 people will think Vista is worth a "Wow"... while the rest of society has better things to be impressed with.
- noreturn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+77Wait, am I really out of the Windows game, or is the AMD logo at the end of the ad kind of surprising? I thought it was Windows and Intel, buddies for life...
- Paperthin, on 10/12/2007, -5/+77"Saw this ad during The Feb 1st airing of The Colbert Report. One of the better Vista ads. Sorry for the crappy capture. I had to use my Macbook’s iSight"
How ironic - pennyfan87, on 10/12/2007, -8/+76Skip the blogspam:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c33gk1QvHnY&eurl= - TheWorm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+58It's very...Microsoft.
- se1zure, on 10/12/2007, -27/+71Good God. @ THe beryl guy.
I've been told that I'm about as mac fanboy as they come, and even i think aero is better than beryl. Linux and it's overall interface is lacking, and the effects added by beryl don't cover that up. Aero has effects that are useful. The demos you show in these beryl vidoes are rediculous, because nobody drags their windows around in circles, even if they are wobbly like that.
in my eyes, byrl looks actually horrible. It's just cheesy effects that distract you away from your work. - TenebrousX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+44average users care about eye candy. Do you think they want a commercial about a new network stack or improved ntfs indexing?
- stormist, on 10/12/2007, -7/+50Why would they name their add world of warcraft?
- theaceoffire, on 10/12/2007, -17/+57Vista = WoW ~ Their video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c33gk1QvHnY
Beryl = OMG ~Our Video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=lawkc3jH3ws - matt77, on 10/12/2007, -1/+38Must be that exclamation point...
- RoyHobbs, on 10/12/2007, -6/+41The best part about it is the AMD logo at the end.
- BitSlash, on 10/12/2007, -14/+47+1 internet to you, estvir

More than ever before! - 2Deluxe, on 10/12/2007, -26/+55WOW, mac fags are still annoying.
- macinjosh, on 10/12/2007, -6/+32More like: Wow, thats all you could come up with after 5 years and billions of dollars?
- b612, on 10/12/2007, -5/+31my favorit is how one person says wow and it gets diggs and another person (who said it before them) gets burried
- chambana, on 10/12/2007, -10/+30No, it'll get dugg down because your observation is retarded. This ad has nothing in it that will make someone remember it.
- 2Deluxe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22I think he needs some glasses for his iSight.
- TenebrousX, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21I just posted the link the blog linked to, to save everyone a page load
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21
Video after the jump.
Come on. If you're going to mindlessly cut & paste, at least do that right.
Anyway, why does MS keep referring to World of Warcraft in their Vista ads? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18UGh.
Dugg down for misusing YouTube.
Sorry, but anyone who records TV with a cam needs to be shot. - MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17that's a deer.
- dignation, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17but you DO get a page that can almost never be *****
- TenebrousX, on 10/12/2007, -6/+21http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c33gk1QvHnY&eurl=
- Barlo_Mung, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Good for you. Here's your ***** cookie.
- Flummoxer, on 10/12/2007, -15/+29Wow!
- Gerolsteiner, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16So because you write that "you are going to be dugg down because of fanboys," everyone is going to believe that you were dugg down not for the utter stupidity of your comment but because they themselves are fanboys? Fascinating.
Besides, take a look at your own name. - kenthorvath, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16http://youtube.com/watch?v=2XFMSSrpTqg
2003 called - they want their "Wow" back. - coredump0x01, on 10/12/2007, -9/+20@se1zure
Beryl can be useful. Ever try the zoom plugin? It's useful for fullscreening web videos, reading small print, pixel counters, enlarging pictures without actually enlarging them, centering in on items in google maps, etc. Also the color saturation, color invert, and brightness plugins would be useful to graphics designers wanting to see how different things look w/o actually doing them, or if you decide you want to see what a film or video game would look like in black and white with inverted colors. The cube desktop is useful for relieving window clutter when you have 20+ windows open you can spread them out instead of sorting through the taskbar. Applying transparency to windows is really useful for various things like testing out layer transparency in image editing, seeing whats behind a window w/o minimizing, watching youtube through a fullscreen instant message window, etc. Video capture plugin is really useful anf can even capture 3D video game footage, App switcher, live preview, window plane, the list goes on. Beryl has helped me streamline a lot of what I do while I work (video game developer/graphics designer) with 15+ source files open, a terminal compiling code, and a game in windowed mode, Beryl plugins helps relieve the congested feeling. Granted the rest of the plugins are just "oooh look, trippy" eye candy and if they distract you, you can easily disable them in Beryl Settings Manager. Same as Vista, Don't knock it until you've used it for a long period of time. - yournamehere, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12movethefloor,
yes, and he will invite you over to his house to drink some nice coolaid - brutimus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10...and this commercial made you decide that?
- consonance, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14At least it was better than the Zune ads. I will never forget the adventure of the farting eyeball monster and the limp dick.
- mvent2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Why is Flip 3D the only thing being advertised in Vista? Hell, why is Flip 3D being marketed at all? Both of the other operating systems have had much, much better and more useful eye candy long before Vista. Thanks for holding back innovation and keeping everyone's expectations low with 5 years of XP, Microsoft!
- schadenfreude56, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Heh, LeBron James.
- jnixon85, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12um.... hi.
mac osx has been out since Q1 of 2001. XP was still brand new... so don't be a dumbass. [exreaction] - estvir, on 10/12/2007, -12/+20Ah, so Microsoft -may- have done it once but we ignore Steve Jobs pulling it off several times every year.
And no, it wouldn't be hypocrisy unless I supported what Bill Gates said, and I don't, I think he should stay out of these types of tirades and leave the BS talking to Steve Jobs, he's much more talented. - ComputerNap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I think this ad goes to show you that Microsoft is still trying to top the "Think Different" ad. They need to realize that watching a rocket on TV on TV go off into space or see a woman run to the top of a mountain doesn't inspire anyone to go out and buy Windows.
- Barlo_Mung, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8"OS X has that (not in 3D) and I never use it."
Not in 3D? So Apple still doesn't have it. Besides, you never using it just tells me the feature sucks. I use flip 3D all the time so, ipso facto, flip 3D is better.
QED. - Barlo_Mung, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12"Microsoft doesn't resort to blatant lies? Ever hear of the Get the "Facts" campaign?"
Vaguely. I don't remember them running annoying commercials with a smug prick telling these blatant lies and looking down on those who don't "get it" though. - BlackAdderIII, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10"""I've been told that I'm about as mac fanboy as they come, and even i think aero is better than beryl. Linux and it's overall interface is lacking, and the effects added by beryl don't cover that up. Aero has effects that are useful."""
Haha, firstly, if you invest anything in being a mac fanboy, you're not in a position to tell anyone about useless eye candy, come on, you've loved your eye candy, and probably switched off useless eye candy, on OS X - be honest. The only difference I see there is that current accelerated x with composite window managers concentrates on providing the technical functionality for interface designers and users to do as they wish, whilst the Mac thing provides only a subset of that same functionality and it can only be used in certain ways (many of which are useless and therefore switched off by the user or Apple).
Secondly, whilst OS X is on a plateau of its own, there is nothing lacking in Linux as far as UI goes - you can get the perfect UI for you if you configure it like that. I think any power user, for instance, with the inclination to do so, can pick dream feature X and have it, annoying misfeature Y of their commercial desktop and remove it, and have their ideal GUI on Linux. You also have theming, animation, effects and vector graphics rendering to rival any commercial product, so any current graphical feature of OS X or Vista and MUCH more is covered by current X display tech. Whilst that may not be appropriate for your Mac sensibilities - maybe because Apple do an excellent job of sorting it for you, or because their graphical design is excellent, it's not fair to say Linux has a crappy GUI just because it doesn't meet your personal requirements in that way.
Thirdly, you say "lacking, especially its GUI". I can understand why you say GUI, but if you're suggesting you can step away from the GUI and have OS X match up against the technological prowess or functionality of a good BSD or Linux distro, you're sadly mistaken - in terms of the OS itself, you're several orders of magnitude away from winning that fight.
Now app support, quite possibly - and *definitely* when it comes to specialized tasks like DTP and stuff. Graphic design, well in my opinion, certainly. User experience on defaults? Yeah that's fair. Style on defaults? Without a doubt. UI versatility, imo no way. Technologically? Let's stay rational. - Dotcommer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@ D3koy
Wow. - Lukevesque, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8First thing I said was "wow" too.
only in a different way. - coredump0x01, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8It comes in handy when you have lots of open windows because you can put different windows on different sides of the cube. The feature has been in *nix desktops for a while, but the cube helps bring it to light and makes it more pleasant to use.
- kenthorvath, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9@joe90210: Two points - pressing F10 instead of F9 allows you to work with only the windows of the application that you are currently working in (like multiple Safari windows or multiple Finder windows). Barring that, you could always press TAB while in expose to switch between sets of windows sorted by application. But, I agree - for many text documents, it is not a solution. But then, neither is the Vista approach, which is a poor copy of expose.
- CanadianGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Finally, something about Vista that isn't misleading or confusing, just pointless.
- brutimus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Instead of showing a bunch of random crap and people going "Wow!", show us why the OS is so great. All of 2 seconds of the commercial was spent actually LOOKING at Vista..and all they showed was the stupid little window changer thing. If they want to sell a product, then SHOW the product, SHOW us what is so amazing. Just think of any other company trying to do this. A bunch of people driving down the road..going "Wow!", then the last 2 seconds of the commercial "Mazda!"
- JustinVolcom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Didn't you see the windows flipping? That was so WOW!
- se1zure, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11You have to understand, dude, that the Get a Mac ads arent targeted towards people who build computers, and who know alot about computers. THey are for people who don't know much about them, and would like everything to come with there mac, and just work the way they expect.
