- theonlyvlad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+41If you're going to post news about a beta, do it neutrally. Don't load your description with venom and hate. And if you don't personally care for the beta, DON'T POST THE STORY.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+27Someone working on LinuxMCE needs to take a few courses on interface design.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23description is not biased in any way.
 - Bartboy919, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Plus Xbox 360 is a media extender.
- ldhertert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16I agree, however it should be noted that the description was cut & paste from the engadget article. they can be pretty harsh sometimes.
- hockey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Link to original source without the biased description.

Could you possibly be trying to spell Douche ? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Funny how Digg, the bastion of everything open source that is in perpetual development or get stuck at version 0.9, Google stuff that stay in beta forever and posts about open beta testing for various game suddently take offense in Microsoft doing the same thing.
- SuperSloth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11No, "public" means anybody can do it. As opposed to a developer beta. "Public" does not mean "unlimited," "free," or even "downloadable". It means that they don't restrict who can get it.
If you're not willing to *actually* beta test the product and just want ZOMG VISTA MCE!!!1! they don't want your participation. - 1jaxstate1, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Why do most MS articles have a negative spin to them. Buggy software in a Beta build...noooo waayy.
- NateB2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8@DASH
Read it again - it clearly states that Microsoft will notify you by _May 31, 2007_ - NewChar, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10It's Engadget, 60% of their posts are Apple fluff.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8That's not the point dickwad. The point is that anything related to Microsoft, beta or not, will be ridiculed to hell no matter how quality their product or service is. Rather loathsome actually.
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8All bow before the bastion of originality that is Airquotes.
- lithuin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8The narrator made me want to punch him to death.
What a deusch. - ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Yet another unbiased "article" from Engadget.
- subdir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"I mean Picasso had a saying, he said good artists copy, great artists steal. And we have always been shameless about stealing great ideas..." - steve jobs

Sure, you have to have a proper extender but sharing your media files also works for networked computers. - meteorash, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6"soliciting the help of free laborers yet again to test out a potentially buggy and likely frustrating piece of forthcoming software"
I don't understand. If Microsoft it is you wish to bash, why would you promote its beta in the first place? And if this is the first time some company is doing public beta testing digg me down. - fkr3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Because it's engadget. Their site doesn't actually serve a purpose at all, it just summaries other people's writings. Because they're completely redundant they need a way to draw traffic so they write silly crap that appeals to digg users and gets them traffic.
- fkr3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6What a nice spin the summary has. Buried because the author's obviously a cockjockey. I'm surprised engadget feel the need to bash Microsoft to attract viewers, but then they are just one of those spam blogs that summarises and links to other people's stories instead of writing their own.
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -16/+19> Functionality
Because using my phone to turn on my Media Centre is oh-so-important.
> Stability.
How is Vista or 'Extenders' NOT stable ?
> .. wasting a lot of money.
You can get Home Premium very cheap in many ways such as getting a new PC, an upgrade version, OEM version, student discount, etc. - Darcy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I don't understand. How can you be a heavy MS beta user if this is the first beta you might actually use???
- kenstone, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8It's not a public beta either. It's something you apply for. A public beta would be a freely downloadable beta.
- nullity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2He didn't sound German to me...
- Topher06, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Wow, an article about Microsoft, insert obligatory biased negative commentary here. Why even bother posting the news if they are so anti-microsoft, someone else will anyways. Its one thing for people to make negative comments about the news, about what ever happened for so called "reporters" being unbiased. Just write about Microsoft offering beta signup for Vista MC and reserve your personal bias and contempt for Digg.
There are so many friggen ads on Engadget anyways, ad to content ratio is like 1000 : 1. - mrmt32, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I hope this update brings better support (well support) for DVB-S, it seems that way with the questions about satellite.
- nullity, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6Very impressive video, but why does it have to be narrated by Napolean Dynamite?
That said, I'm definitely going to be installing LinuxMCE. - RobbieF, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's giving me an error and an apology when I click "register" after I've logged in with my live / passport account.
- shadymg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1umm....posted 2 days ago fellas
http://www.digg.com/software/Beta_Signups_open_for_next_Windows_Media_Center_version - estvir, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The betas aren't there to be 'useful' to you -- I have to say this, but I despise people like you, you just want to get into the betas so you get free software and so you can increase your e-penis.
Connect is there for a reason and I don't think you know why, hence why it has newsgroups, bug reports, etc. - heydigital, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Wow, if that isn't biased journalism, I don't know what is.
- Ramble, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I'm usually a heavy MS beta user and this is one of the first that I might actually use (I heavily use MCE).
Signing up now. - generalloy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I think Windows MCE is a great UI experience. But you have to take the DRM with it-- so weigh your options, and this means getting locked into using all MS products to stream your tv stuff, instead of something like XBMC or a networked DVD player since copy-protected files (which there are quite a few of these days, thanks cable providers) won't stream.
- Ramble, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2It's the first beta that might actually be useful to me. Onecare is kinda useless if you don't run an antivirus like I do.
- kenstone, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1But they do restrict who can get it. They are restricting based on the application. It's like the Vista Beta. There was the "Public Beta" which was what anyone could download. And there was the "Technical Beta" which, while still open to the public, was closed to a select group.
- DASH, on 10/12/2007, -14/+1How about its over... If you follow the link it says they M$ will let you know by MARCH 31... Last time I checked that was 20 days ago.
- schestowitz, on 10/12/2007, -23/+8There are Free alternatives that offer a lot more functionality and stability, e.g. http://www.ehomeupgrade.com/entry/3683/completely_mind-blowing_linuxmce (Flash video demo)
Worth exploring rather than waiting or wasting a lot of money. - airquotes, on 10/12/2007, -27/+3***** microsoft no innovation, no heart, no originality... steve balmer (nuff said) bill gates steals ideas, lies, little weasel
