- aaronm67, on 10/12/2007, -2/+59it's not MS using quicktime. It's MS using MP4 format, which your Quicktime plugin is set to handle. Big difference.
- bvaughn, on 10/12/2007, -11/+62Microsoft is using quicktime, thats kinda strange
- jguy584, on 10/12/2007, -7/+20If thats MS using quicktime, then theres a reason to digg in itself
- tijer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Not really. They actually specified Quicktime in the source
type="video/quicktime" - bvaughn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Yea and the video is hosted by microsoft.

We're so hip, you can even subscribe in iTunes and watch on your iPods, you hip people, you. ;)
- noonehome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Domain by Proxy is a service that is offered by Go Daddy. It allows you to register a domain and retain the full benefits of the domain, but hides your personal information on a WHOIS for that domain.
So basically the domain, ON10.NET, could be owned by anyone. - hobbit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9True, but its nice to see Microsoft actually using an industry standard managed by an external committee, rather than foisting their own propriety format.
In directly, this shows that the number of iPods in the wild must be very significant if MS has chosen to use MP4 and not WMV.
tadunee, people sometimes associated MP4 with Apple/Quicktime because Apple was the first to support the full specification of MP4 and is a member of the MPEG-LA. - KnuxSonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Well it's obviously funded by them if you hunt around the site. They may not be invovled with it other than handing out the checks though.
- wisewaif, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Just the same kind of superficial, trite, unimaginative stuff you would expect from people used to doing packaged pieces on TV. Would everyone really want to watch this every day? It's slick, I guess, but the fake enthusiasm is really grating.
- tadunne, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Why people think MP4 as an Apple invention of don't know?
- rspeed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The feed is available as WMV as well.
Which is nice, I've been subscribed to this for about a week (a friend tipped me off) and they were only available as WMV before. - Zane, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Cool, Tina and Laura deserved better than what G4 offered them, that's why Scot left and started allgames.com. Hopefully this is equally as awesome as what Scot has built.
- KnuxSonic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Yes and the confirmation email comes from Microsoft when you register.
- mykoleary, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Jeff Sandquist is an MS employee (he is "in charge" of Channel 9 as well...), and looks to be running the show. He has a sticky "welcome to 10" comment at the top of each video.
- djork, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I love it. A video plug for ASP and SQL Server wrapped up in the hip indie radio station tour...
- c0rk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3There is definitely some work to be done (getting things to run smoother in Firefox), but the user experience in IE7 beta is top notch. Some of the design choices made are right in line with what I feel Internet video viewers want. An example of this is the ability to write and view comments without disrupting playback and without scrolling or navigating away from the page (no pop-ups, etc.) --- very cool. If you play around on the site a little more, you'll find other really neat design choices.
I'm not sure this is the first example of a design like this... but it's the first I have dugg across. I'm very impressed. - Kingy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Amazing how many diggs this got, it's essentially an advert packaged as a podcast/vodcast/vidcast. MS have just bought into the whole viral, web2.0, on demand, podcast, [insert buzzword here] culture and it seems to be paying off.

did people just miss the obvious in the lower left corner of the site ? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Doesnt seem to work for me using safari
- genetic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i agree what innovation are they talking about? i also thought it was funny that in the server room that self righteous geek was like our dream was to bring music people, radio people and WORLD CLASS networking people.
in all actuality i think KEXP is a great site/radio station but this vidcast made them look like ***** - Chewie67, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Domains by Proxy is a service to hide the real registrants name and address..
- abdulzis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I had written to Scoble about MSN Video being partial to IE on my site earlier this Friday. He replied back saying Monday they were releasing a video site "on10" which *should*work on all browsers.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3the dev team says Tina and Laura have been added to the MS team and the videos were deliberately quicktime based

From the site itself.. Also all the edgy, moving camera/odd angles/close ups gave me a headache. I thought everyone was over that... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7_you're_ using quicktime. Microsoft is using MP4...
...do the math - nbx909, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Don't we already have enough MS lovefest podcasts? $5 they bash linux randomly.
- MoeB, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2so should the use of the word "like". you what i mean? like u know?
- ahmerhussain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1lmao they use a freaking embeded quickime!
It doesn't have an IE only page
It uses standard mp4 and not wmv or some other crap format
And they have an "iPod" feed! - moracity, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Not only are they not using WMV, they are using an iPod-like image at the top of the page for the "this week" preview. Interesting.
- diggnationdevon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3First thing I noticed was the QuickTime plugin, but they may be using it for a specific reason. The interface looks beautiful, they did a nice job.
- mykoleary, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Besides, didn't you catch the slick "...and the site runs on IIS with SQL..." quote from the web developer... :)
- eetadic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2tina. laura. drool.
- Thorpe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Can anyone get the PSP version to download yet?
- key134, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6Microsoft does not own the domain. Or at least it is not readily apparent:

- mikeazorin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3That's a slick site? You gotta be kidding me. Mr. Rounded Corners and Blue Gradients lost his cool years ago.
- Yankidank, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Wow, I hate that short haired blonde chick. Looking at her hurts my insides. The show is so "extreme" that it gets annoying fast. Fast paced music doesn't make a show interesting.
- Thorpe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Digg effect? Site has eventually loaded for me. Like the idea you can put this on a PSP.
- daRoach, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Don't forget psp.
- krum0786, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3YAY! Tina Wood and Laura Foy are back!
- samsoffes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i have a mac. it wouldnt work. i've never seen anything apple made that didnt work on my hp though... microsoft loses.
- KnuxSonic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I hope you don't tell people IRL how they should talk...
- macewan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2get off your knees, it's embarrassing
- ratbear, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2***** sick, maybe I will see them around town now that they live in Seattle. I always thought both were a little hot.
- iSEPIC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1*AND* a plug for IIS
- colemip, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I haven't had a chance to watch the show, but it's still great that Tina and Laura have jobs now. G4TV.com ruled and you know it. I'm using Safari and it took a couple tries, but the iPod download worked. I'm gonna watch this as soon as I get time.
- kday, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Where is the MS bashing.... I've read through all the comments, and it is missing.... Where did the MS bashers go?
- clickmyface, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2What? What is your point by linking to Wikipedia?
Is your point to say that podcasts are not just for iPods? While that may be true, the term was coined from the words "iPod" and "broadcast", as the article clearly states. So for him to associate quicktime with podcasting is not at all irrelevent considering the vast majority of podcats are done through standards adopted by Apple, not Microsoft.
Kind of seems like you're the ass, huh? - yman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Click the "share" button on the player, you can see that you can add digg as a trackback :)
