If you must post variations of the most overused jokes online, at least learn the origins and use it in a way that is true to their form and actually makes sense. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+32MS are usually pretty upfront regarding 'sold' and 'shipped'. Unlike Sony.
- TheThirdWheel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Not the same page, but the same story:
http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/05/xbox-360-hits-10-4-million-announces-iptv/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21404, eh?
- Taby666, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2810 million sold to retailer ...
- griffon2k, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Microsoft already announced 10 millions 360s SHIPPED in November. That same month, they were at about 7.5 to 8 million sold. NPD reports (while not yet officially released) estimate about 2 million 360s sold over the holidays. That should push them right over the 10 million mark.
People seem to be just in denial because historically, the first console to 10 million wins the war. I don't know if that's true, but the fact is the 360 likely just hit that mark. - johnhummel, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19chicken101: I'm sure they will eventually, but then again, so will those PS3's. The question is, how long?
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -8/+20Yeah, but it is safe to assume that all those consoles will sell.
- a0me, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Yeah they should use the term "shipped," but that's how announcements work...
- waterdrop, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12All of my buddies, both hardcore and casual gamers, got an Xbox 360 for Christmas, including myself, and if they already had Xbox 360, they got Gears of War. Many kids in my high school got Xbox 360 for the holidays that I am not friends with as well, and I haven't heard of anyone with a PS3 or Wii yet. In my small poor town, population about 25,000 and income is around $35,000 average per family, you can only find the Xbox 360 and occasionally the PS3.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14If you think the PS3 is in limited supply then come to the best buy in Woodbridge, VA
- TheThirdWheel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9They have a free 1-year warranty from Microsoft.
- GliTCH82, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14MrPig, you're giving neuroelectron2 too much credit here.
- emgonzalez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Household_income_in_the_United_States
$35k is not that far off from the median income. People tend to think that everybody makes as much money as they do, but reality is different. - TonyCubed, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Nothing wrong with Blogs if they are the original people to post an article. A lot of blogs just like to blog spam other peoples articles.
- watership, on 10/12/2007, -2/+94 million units broken? Do you have any idea how insane that would be? Even if it was 1 million bad 360s, that would be a huge disaster for Microsoft, the replacement plan alone would be a huge cost they couldn't hide. I think everyone forgets that the internet is not a proper sampling of real life stats... FOR ANYTHING.
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7there is a difference between shipped and sold to retailers.
being "shipped" just means that's how many have been made. Being sold means they have the money for them. It's now up to the shops to get them to the people. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Sure NipGrip. 40% are broken and yet there is no talk about it on the nternet, where 5 defective Microsoft products would be talked about endlessly by little anti-MS bitches like you.
- ScottMaximus1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7In that small of a town, the cost of living will be extremely low. Therefore 35K could be quite prosperous
- simonbp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Pretty much any major electronics store in Utah has PS3s in stock too. There may be a relatively small number of PS3s available, but they seem to be meeting demand quite nicely.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6By the way, to the ignroant ***** who say "Well, that is SHIPPED, not sold" well, learn something about inventroy practices. For a system that is over a year old, shipping 10.4 million means they are either over 10 million SOLD, or VERY close to it. This isn't the 1950s when peopel thought that inventory was a small cost. People know that it is the BIGGEST cost of a business, and therefore don't keep any morethan they have to to cover IMMEDIATE demand.
- DanAtkinson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I had a look at the blog that this story is from. There's no mention of this story at all. So either people are digging a bad link without actually reading it first, or the entry was removed.
I'm going to say a bit of both. - buckeye45, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5i gotta give ms credit. they put out a good system. when the 360 first dropped, i hated it. seriously hated its guts. but then about two weeks ago i spent the weekend at my friends house up north who has a 360, i gotta say it was really impressive. far better than it was at release.
- godd4242, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4yah it definetly picked up since launch
you got dugg down by some fanboy though, which i find mildly amusing - cliffzdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It was really the 1st gen that had so many issues, I guess the 1st gen of something in the electronics world having issues is new to techies?

"Scott...name one city where $35,000 PER FAMILY is "prosperus" [sic]. Only if you are single who never does naything [sic] can you save with that. Even in cheap cities."
At this point in life, I'd consider $35k/year pretty prosperous since I'm in grad school with a wife (who is a stay-at-home mom) and a daughter. I make considerably less than $35,000 yet have enough to live quite decently (own a condo, eat food, have clothes, buy/build new computers every couple years, etc...) and invest monthly in a mutual fund. I wouldn't know what to do with $35k at this point (ok, I would but that's more than double what I make a year on my stipend). It depends on your priorities; if you have to have a Xbox360 and the newest/hottest games, a fancy car, eat at fancy restaurants, etc. then $35,000 won't cut it.
I guess $35,000 isn't exactly prosperous but if you know how to manage your money you can support a family just fine on that income in most places in the country and still have money for savings. - debachat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Unlike some other manufacturers who do not have as much clout with retailers, when MS ships products they are considered sold from MS accounting perspective. If I remember right, MS recognizes revenues when it ships to retailers - so it doesnt matter if the units are lying on the floor of the retailer, MS aint taking them back.
- TheThirdWheel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Retailer buys them. 10 million sold means retailers ordered and received 10 million.
- XenoCyber, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4While I too don't think it has passed 10Mill, there is no official data released yet that includes December. There were fake reports but that said they were based on NPD but they were false - http://arstechnica.com/journals/thumbs.ars/2007/1/3/6462.
- Reaganomicon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Good for Microsoft. Not that I'm a big fan of huge corporations, but they've made one hell of a great console (the 360) and they deserve their success.
- hbeierg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i have a first shipment 360 and it's still working great. I have never had a problem with it
- AtWorkSurfer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2A lot of folks get end-of-the-year bonuses and many people give cash and giftcards as Christmas presents. So I'm not so sure about your assertion that New Years is "THE very time of the year when traditionally nobody has money."
- chicbicyclist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I wonder why.
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Get a room you two.
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"That "sold" number refers to units "sold into retail," which refers to units in transit, units sitting in store inventories and machines sold to consumers."
http://www.cnet.co.uk/misc/print/0,39030763,49285928,00.htm - nirmaldotca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Congrads to microsoft, now if they can bring metal gear to 360 then i don't need to go buy a ps3 when that game comes out. Also waiting to get my hands on a Nintendo Wii, so i am pretty much rooting for Microsoft and Nintendo right now.
- Bobalobabingbon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3i agree, couldn't find the story, tho i heard on a news podcast that microsoft had the most sales of the year.
- clontzman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Packed Best Buy in Charleston, S.C. had five units on Christmas Eve Day and the Wal-Mart next door had two units the day after Christmas.
- a0me, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Or they could also be using retail/distribution lingo, where
"sell-in" is the number of units the company sell to distributors and dealers and
"sell-through" is how many of those actually make it into customer hands.
Most of the time, companies prefer to use the former. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3NipGrip...your imagination is simply not reality. There is no bigger issues with the 360 than there is with, say, the iPod. And your completely weird "insult" attempt shows that you are 13, so I will not bother debating you anymore. You are woefully unprepared for a battle of wits with anyone.
Let me guess...yours broke. After crying like a baby for saeveral days, yo formed this delusion that all of them are breaking.
(And by the way, replacement consoles do NOT add to sales/shipped totlas you moron. LEARN a little bit about how the industry works before proving to all how ***** ignorant you are.) - Heembo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yea, I make around 150k/yr as s programmer - and even on a rich island on Kauai, I'm by far in the top tier. 150k is a lot for one year, but it does not make me filthy rich. I know *families* who survive on Kauai in the 40-50k range.
- TDR25, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I really have to know the truth on this one! Everyone has different reports about how many Xbox 360 were sold, and I keep getting different numbers. Nexgenwars I thought was a pretty good source, but I was probably wrong. Then came VGCharts, which I also think is inaccurate. I really need to know, because if the 360 has already sold 10 mil. systems with games like GTA, Halo 3, and a lot of Sony's exclusives going to the 360, Sony might just have to rethink things starting...NOW!
- staticneuron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's funny when Sony announces that thier consoles are sold they get bashed for lying (when they really meant sold to retailers) and now that MS is speaking the same language there are alot of justifications. Mr. Moore announced in 2005 before the 360's release that the 360 will have a percentage of sony's installed base. Thats where this 10 million number comes from. The recent news reports from MS describing what they meant by "sold" really didn't appear until late 2006, sometime after september. It isn't a big deal to say shipped especially for MS because they Ship to an amazing number of regions. And quite a few I didn't know consoles were normally shipped to. This is like saying that when Sony announced 22 million psp's shipped that it equated to sold. But double standards seem to be common place nowadays.
- zdiggler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think xtreme helped some too..
- GuruMark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So does this mean the price will come down to something reasonable?
- Hoov, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@TonyCubed
Hence a lot of the garbage that gets passed through Digg. - joaob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1depends on the deal MS works out with the retailer.
For a great example...
it used to be that the supplement store GNC does not pay for items shipped, only those that are actually sold. So in reality they are "borrowing" the products. Those that go expired get shipped back to the manufacturers for full/partial refund. So if you're wondering why your favorite product is not available on GNC shelves (like LaBrada) you now have a pretty good idea. They have lost alot of that clout though lately...so I dont know if they are still refusing to pay for shipped. - staticneuron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Certainly not ALL of the 360's are fine but I would claim that the majority are. It's not funny or even remotely correct to state that the 360 has had that many defects.
- miles32, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I have never had a problem with a Microsoft product. Except for bob and ME but they were just funny. I loved my orignal xbox and I love my 360. The only complaint I have is the 360 needs a seperate fan.
//Are these consoles you keep saying are failing all over the place, failing systematically as in its all the power supplies fault or is it randomised?
//If it was randomised then its a qos problem at the manufacturer. If its systematic then its a design flaw. - DocNo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2NipGrip - you need to get a grip. My 360 is over 6 months old and works fine - even playing GOW and HD DVD's. I know six other people with 360's, a few of whom who have had them since launch and not one of those people has had an issue either. Are they perfect? No, but then again I don't know of any product that is 100% issue free.
