- whiskeymb, on 10/12/2007, -10/+328lol, he uses Excel to track his calendar?! Isn't that what Outlook is for? You'd think he'd be able to use his own software properly!
- lubix, on 10/12/2007, -6/+303The dev's must work in the closets.
- DryvBy, on 10/12/2007, -9/+270Do you need anything bigger? All that empty space that takes up "big offices" is just bad corporate moves. The ultimate office is work-at-home, though.
- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -11/+168It's a decoy, to weed out all the employees and outside developers who'd like the chance to knife him?
- flernk, on 10/12/2007, -15/+167My closet is bigger than that. And why on earth is he working with his back to the door?
- JoeMerchant, on 10/29/2007, -3/+147What I see here is a corner office with floor to ceiling windows.
The man doesn't have to "look" at who is coming, he can enjoy the view.
His space isn't cluttered with "things" he's doing, it's got his kids' artwork on a bulletin board.
He has the full resources of the company at his disposal, he doesn't need to hoarde his private stash of goodies in his office. - Langford, on 10/12/2007, -10/+146They didn't get to be the richest company around by wasting money on office space.
- JakeX, on 10/12/2007, -11/+143He's just using a small office to make up for his BIG..... salary.... :P
- gregduh, on 10/12/2007, -3/+133@flernk
because his face is to the window, wouldn't you rather see outside behind your screen than your door? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+131And quite a nice vista, too...
- xrisnothing, on 10/12/2007, -2/+99umm, when your hair line is on the back of your head, it is no longer receding. he's bald.
- mraustin1337, on 10/12/2007, -3/+98In judging the size of his office please remember the size of Steve Ballmer himself.
- raynar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+97Well, since I doubt he's ever in his office, and usually going to meetings here and there, why would you need one? Maybe his real office is the one on his private jet when he decides he's in the mood for Mexican and heads south for the day.
- 15thPD, on 10/12/2007, -1/+95Also, anybody that works in a windowed office knows that you don't want your back to the window. The glare on the monitor would kill your eyes.
- RiverBelow, on 10/12/2007, -2/+91* Cameraman turns around
holy *****, TWO swimming pools??? - monkeyrun, on 10/12/2007, -2/+89Give me his salary, I am willing to work off a chair with a laptop.
- mraustin1337, on 10/12/2007, -11/+95He doesn't like Outlook. It is too buggy. They just got him off a paper date planner this year.
Also they installed OpenOffice as a joke.
He didn't notice. - LeeVal, on 10/12/2007, -8/+76Thats not his whole office thats a small part of it, check here on this video http://channel9.msdn.com/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=85529
- novusopiate, on 10/12/2007, -2/+65At least he has a window......
- WATYF, on 10/12/2007, -3/+62..and in this picture, we see Ballmer as he applies the Vulcan Death Grip™ to his keyboard in order to make Excel function like a calendar.
http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2007/01/27/business/20070128_BALLMER_SLIDESHOW_5.html - Frostek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+58There's hardly room to throw a chair!
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+52Such a small office surely cannot contain Ballmer rage.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+60and a receding hairline.
- benadamson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+48It may be small, but from the looks of it, it's nothing but windows.
Natural light > floorspace. - primary0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+49and an unbroken chair
- asdfrewq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+45Hmmm... Not much room to swing a chair in there...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+50All this begs the question: How big is Jobs's Office?
- krebcycle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+42My office used to be one floor up from his, directly next-door to the office that was exactly the same as his. His office is just a standard office in a random building in the red-west campus. Any dev lead or lead program manager could have the same office (anyone who qualifies for a corner office; the way those buildings are built there are 8 corner offices per floor and they're 4 story buildings).
- clesters, on 10/12/2007, -4/+43@benadamson
"It may be small, but from the looks of it, it's nothing but windows."
except for the tiny bit of FreeBSD running their mail. - OldSchoolJohn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+36"Mr. Ballmer may have a decidedly low-key office, but he uses an Excel spreadsheet to track his calendar."
How does that caption even make sense? What does one have to do with the other? - Raian, on 10/12/2007, -4/+39omg I forgot how hot he is!
- mouthster, on 10/12/2007, -6/+40That's his "For The Media" office.
- dylanmat, on 10/12/2007, -4/+37and it's a corner office...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+37
No wonder that Microsoft can't see the "big picture"... CEO is using 17" LCD monitor.
:) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+37Notice that there's only one chair in the office...did he throw the rest out?
>.> - RomeyRome, on 10/12/2007, -3/+33*****. That's Dr. Phil.
- Electric_Sheep, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30Ballmer Smash!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30It looks like a new chair.
- trer, on 10/12/2007, -21/+48DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS!!!! FTW!
- DrDankenstein, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27Its not the size of the office that counts, its what you do in it
- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -15/+40Maybe Ballmer explains why Windows is so slow to keep with the times. Excell for a calendar... I've heard it all now. I love how they word that too... "He's got a low-key office, but hey, he uses Excell for his calendar" is that supposed to be a perk?
- trer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27Ballmer is wearing the exact same shirt and pants today that he wore then. And he's got the same haircut. He is a model of consistency.
- lukehh, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27Check out the Mac in BIll and Steve's office (albeit from 'the old days')
http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2007/01/27/business/20070128_BALLMER_SLIDESHOW_8.html - wvdavis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25I'll take that office, if I can have his yacht.
- Bluecobra, on 10/12/2007, -4/+28No, this is his office. Ballmer is a humble man. I've read in the past that he drives an old Ford beater to work everyday.
- tb0n3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24"Maybe because he can't count on the Exchange calendar."
I don't think that's what OldSchoolJohn meant. He was talking about the entire sentence:
"Mr. Ballmer may have a decidedly low-key office, but he uses an Excel spreadsheet to track his calendar."
This one threw me off, too. There are two statements here: 1) Mr. Ballmer (has) a decidedly low-key office and 2) he uses an Excel spreadsheet to track his calendar. Those two statements have absolutely nothing to do with each other, and only one of them has anything to do with the picture that is captioned. The caption tries (and fails) to comprehensibly tie the two together. Some editor needs to be stabbed with a spork. - unloud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23and some developers
- FearlessFreep, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27Twice zero is still a small number
- jmaiurano, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23At least he has an office.
- Humptydank, on 10/12/2007, -6/+27What they don't say is that his entire office is inside one drawer of Bill Gates' desk, and that Bill Gates' office has its own forest rangers.
"I'd better see revenues up this quarter Ballmer -- don't make me slam this drawer..."
"Okay okay Bill! Just don't slam the drawer! It makes me hit my face on the window..." -
