- Samueul, on 03/18/2009, -2/+53Hello, my name is Samueul. I pay my taxes, have worked full time since I was 16 and generally have no outstanding debt except my mortgage which is reasonable. I have a wife and daughter and a full time job. I make decent bank, and I'm pretty happy. I feel I need a yacht but since I have already worked pretty darn hard for everything else I have, I figure I just shouldn't have to pay for it myself. Please donate to my cause....and fjsferreira... I don't need sperm, but thank you for the offer....
- Jhiaxuz, on 03/18/2009, -1/+42What ever happened to local stripping for money? I don't like this internets sometimes.
- fjsferreira, on 03/18/2009, -5/+38I can donate sperm if she needs...
- enantiodromia, on 03/18/2009, -0/+30not original, not by a long shot
- bombula, on 03/18/2009, -0/+28She's from Michigan and wants to go to Notre Dame? A private school? Cry me a river. Go to U of M or Michigan state. Pay in-state tuition. Education will be just as good (better at U of M), and cost a fraction of the amount.
Seems pretty stupid for a 3.97 GPA. - casspa, on 03/17/2009, -4/+30Slightly cocky of her to assume she's just going to get in?
- sparechange, on 03/18/2009, -1/+26Is this what we've become? A nation of people feeling entitled to just ask for a hand-out?
- smcgrath, on 03/17/2009, -2/+25Hate to say it, but if your plans include med school, there really isn't a way to avoid debt (outside of independent wealth or a rich family). Average med student debt from the class of 2007 is $139,517. That's an increase of 6.9% over 2006. If she's lucky to get into Med. School on her 1st shot, that number should be closer to $220,000 in eight years time. Instead of looking to crowd source your education it would be better to look into proposed programs that look to eliminate school debt in return for service in lower served areas. Just do what millions of other students do every year and take on student loans; scholarships are your best bet, not social media.
- inactive, on 03/18/2009, -0/+21You must be a white male. Colleges hate white males.
- fword07, on 03/18/2009, -1/+20I will donate in exchange for your wife or daughter.
- sparkplug890, on 03/18/2009, -0/+18Hi, I think I know one of your relatives in Nigeria that died and left you ten million dollars. Please reply to this comment with all relevant sensitive financial information so that we may complete this transaction. Thanks.
- mrgeekguy, on 03/18/2009, -1/+17Perhaps she can get a retention bonus from AIG?
- HappyScrappy, on 03/18/2009, -1/+16Well if you were 10th in your class at the Muskegon Township High School, you'd think you were a big deal too.
(I'm not actually serious) - blackbelt88, on 03/18/2009, -0/+13Not to rain on her parade or anything, but it's called the University of Michigan. Excellent institution and she gets in state tuition. Who knew?
- statuescrumble, on 03/18/2009, -0/+13I just applied to college this year, getting my replies back right now. 5.5 out of 6, only 2 more to go.
I know I cant pay 50k a year, so I applied to all public schools. Easy. I dont like it when people are so intent on getting into a high name private school as an undergrad when there are damn good public schools out there. - KSUdesigner, on 03/18/2009, -1/+14Except it's not all that creative. People try to raise money on the internet like this all the time.
- dublea2, on 03/18/2009, -2/+14"She has applied for at least 10 scholarships, she said."
Only 10?! When I went to college I applied for over 200 and only got like 3. Its as though she is banking on this website. - jc7012, on 03/18/2009, -1/+12Yes. (See: Current Financial Crisis)
- moazamkhan, on 03/18/2009, -0/+11This is all well and good that she has high hopes and aspirations, but unfortunately she isn't able to afford an education at a private school like UND.
Isn't this why the gods invented state schools? I go to Ohio State University and I wasn't as good of a student as her in HS, but strong SAT, and I get 1/2 of my total fees paid, I'm a strong student (3.4 comprehensive gpa, psych major, Japanese minor, pre-med), involved in research in a psychology lab, volunteering at a suicide prevention hotline, and am confident I have a good chance of getting into medical school.
She expects society to put out $46,000 a year for her? With the scholarships I have, thats enough to send me or an equivalent student to school for 4 years! This money would be much better spent sending her and someone else through a state school. State schools aren't bad, this is America after all.
I don't meant to sound like a jack-ass, but, really? You expect people to pay for your education at a very expensive school? I always thought beggars couldn't be choosers.
http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/coll ...
I'm sure a public school in her state is on that list somewhere. - VegaObscura, on 03/18/2009, -0/+11This isn't a worthy cause. Do you know how many students go through college taking out massive loans? Why is this one any different?
Because she has a website?
Give me a break. When I decided which college to go to, I picked based on a mix of quality and financial aid. I'm just fortunate that the college I go to now gave me enough that I'm not going to be drowning in debt when I get out of here (Med School will make that the reality, however).
Not saying it's not a good idea, but I just don't see the logic behind why someone would donate. - cl2yp71c, on 03/18/2009, -0/+10Loans buddy, loans.
- inhaler, on 03/18/2009, -0/+9She needs more content for her site. I'd feel more inclined to fork over some donation cash (myself a broke college student) if she looked like she was working for our money. Atleast SaveKaryn (or whatever it was called) gave us something to read occasionally.
- whiteboyrob, on 03/18/2009, -1/+10as someone who got into ND but couldn't afford it, graduated with a degree in biomedical engineering, and is currently in medical school hoping to do pediatric cardiology, i can appreciate where she is coming from
however, I now have over $150k+ of med school debt alone and would love to tell this girl that instead of spending 46K+ a year for a fancy undergrad degree, go to a state school, get some co-op jobs, save up money, graduate from undergrad with 30k+ in your bank account and pay for the first year of med school.
smcgrath said it too...if you wanna go to med school you can't avoid debt. Unless you wanna work for the military or spend 10 years in an underserved area... - hanginginthere, on 03/18/2009, -0/+8She's applied for only ten scholarships and she's a senior? That's just ridiculous. I'm a junior and I've already applied to at least twenty scholarships. Instead of setting up some crappy website, she should focus on something more sensible and not something that makes her look lazy. I'm not trying to be [that] mean, but seriously. From what I've read from the Yahoo article and her website, it does not seem like she's trying hard enough with the scholarships. With her grade and rankings, I am beyond a doubt that she can get several fairly decent scholarships.
- bonerfide, on 03/18/2009, -0/+8She got the idea from Obama.
- Egroh08, on 03/18/2009, -0/+8Funny, I live in Muskegon (or unfortunately, rather). I don't really see why this is big news though... people create fundraisers for themselves all time on the internet.
- VegaObscura, on 03/18/2009, -0/+7Scholarships, dude, not colleges.
- ryan83189, on 03/18/2009, -0/+7Appropriate name.
- sickyd, on 03/18/2009, -0/+7If she is being an entrepreneur, then I, as an investor, expect a return on my investment in her education. A yearly percentage of her future earnings will do nicely.
- KSUdesigner, on 03/18/2009, -0/+6Well there was million dollar home page for one. That kid was only 21. People have done all sorts of ***** on the internet like this, this girl is doing nothing special except asking for a handout.
On the other hand, she just inspired me to purchase the following domain name: iwantfreemoneytoo.com - statuescrumble, on 03/18/2009, -0/+5I totally agree. UM is a great school.
- PopcornDave, on 03/18/2009, -0/+5Slightly cockier that she expects people will actually fund her education. Sure she'll get some donations but I suspect she's in for a rude awakening.
- neilk85, on 03/18/2009, -1/+6amen brother, same goes for us Asian males. and its even worst when it comes to grad schools and medical schools where the majority of academic and research funding programs are aimed at underrepresented minorities
- inactive, on 03/18/2009, -0/+5Change: Got any?
- mmittimm, on 03/18/2009, -0/+4http://american.redcross.org/site/PageServer?pagen ...
- hernam19, on 03/18/2009, -2/+6she should try and apply for scholarships like everyone else.
- inactive, on 03/18/2009, -0/+4I was inspired to write for you,
"And by the time I am done with school, Obama will have made doing heart transplants on babies a union job, paying $12.77 to apprentices. *****" - williepepper, on 03/18/2009, -2/+6Great,
Another brat looking for a handout.
I suppose he's going to beg for a job too, or maybe come up with a brilliant idea like sell a pixel on a sight or something. - thonnie, on 03/18/2009, -1/+5***** or GTFO
She isn't entitled to anything, plain and simple. - BTConan, on 03/18/2009, -0/+4On that list the University of Michigan is ranked #4. And she wants to go out of state.
- jerstud56, on 03/18/2009, -0/+3Whoops. Tired + sick = fail.
- Nate7679, on 03/18/2009, -2/+5I'd consider donating if she hadn't felt so inclined to add 'God bless you' at the very end
- inactive, on 03/18/2009, -0/+3Because fat girls can look like whomever they want on the google.
- sulthernao, on 03/18/2009, -0/+3Cause she's a moron. UMich has a wonderful engineering program and an especially in BME, etc.
- tgc1, on 03/18/2009, -0/+3She's learning by example.
- 2of8, on 03/18/2009, -0/+3Last I saw, post-secondary institutions not only saw more female applicants, but also accepted more.
Take a look at this study (Canada) http://www.statcan.gc.ca/pub/81-595-m/81-595-m2007 ...
And this (US) http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0FCR/is_1_4 ... - KSUdesigner, on 03/18/2009, -1/+4What are you going on about JCred? Are you trying to say I'm smearing Obama? I'm doing nothing of the sort. In fact I voted for the man.
- inactive, on 03/18/2009, -0/+3You need to include something about inspiration from a dead relative and you're a lock.
- taiguy, on 03/18/2009, -0/+3those with the highest GPA usually are....
- palmer, on 03/18/2009, -0/+3First question on reading the headline: WTF is UND?
"Notre Dame" would be fine. -
