- cfazzini, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Gah, I agree. That thing looks absolutely ridiculous.
- notastat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I did not expect this from Mercedes Benz. One word, WOW.

http://www.losangelesmercedesbenz.net/ - Arcotik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It may have to be aerodynamic, but find a way to do it that doesn't look like ***** - model it after a Honda Civic
- MrWinna, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow bio diesel is crazy. Mercedes Benz diesel is even crazier.
When will Posh in Orange County have this? http://www.poshautomotive.com/orangecountymercedes - jon_k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The primary reason it won't debut here is because bush has banned hydrogen for use in cars. Say's it's too dangerous.
- SmeRndmGy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1they always make the alternative energy cars stupid looking. put that power system in a fancy ass mercedes convertable and they'll sell huge amounts. put it in an ugly little rectangular box and people will say "its good that someone is developing this stuff" and then drive away in their 4 mpg SUVs. most people are far too image obsessed to drive a car that doesnt fit in.
- anastrophe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1arcotik - ever heard of a battery?
- anastrophe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0why are they wasting time, money, and effort on these idiotic hydrogen cars? there's a net energy loss in creating the hydrogen. solar is the future. period. end of discussion. the sun is the source of virtually all energy on earth. go to the source.
- cosmicdreams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wonder how far along GM is in their efforts?
- ajiva, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What I want is a station wagon or sedan that has a decent sized diesel (maybe a 2.0L turbo diesel), with a hybrid motor giving me in excess of 60-70mpg and decent power (200horsepower). Is that too much to ask?
- scbysnx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the people in japan will eat that up.. have you seen their cars?
- dlvolk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is not a hybrid..... It has no engine. I'm sick of hearing about fuel cells. H2 IC engines will likely have a place in the future of energy.
Benefits of a H2ICE over a H2 Fuel Cell: lower purity H2 required(60% vs 99.9999% pure H2), 1/10 the manufacturing cost, easy maintainance, equivalent thermal effiency at rated power.
UW Madison Future Energy Challenge - www.uwfec.org - mancat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hybrids are a waste. Why are we not given a better selection of diesel cars and trucks in the US? Modern low sulfur diesel fuels provide comparable mileage to hybrids, often better, with less pollutants. So what's up, EPA? Why aren't you allowing more diesels to be sold in the US?
- bakatrinh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0that car is pretty ugly.
- jgstew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This story is about a Fuel cell car, not a hybrid.. its an electric car with a fuel cell instead of a battery...
bush banned hydrogen? really? i guess its true that if you wanna make a car bomb out of a hydrogen vehicle.. its much easier than a standard vehicle.. just need a small explosive charge since you already have a high explosive on hand inside. - airlounge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0These things have to happen one step at a time... otherwise we'd have some serious economic crap to deal with.
I'm just glad there are companies out there that are on the ladder, well done Mercedes.
I hope others follow their example. - anastrophe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0diesel has fewer emissions than a ULEV hybrid? i think not.
- farfrompuken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"diesel has fewer emissions than a ULEV hybrid? i think not."
well.... you think wrong ;-)
www.biodiesel.org ... check it out, you won't sound like a tard next time - mancat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd have to disagree with the assumption that "nobody buys boxy cars." I live in the Seattle area, and I've been seeing a pretty sharp increase in small, "boxy" vehicles similar to this one. After looking at the additional photos, I'd have to say that the car has some nice features, especially inside. The forward folding child seat is cool. Also, check out how much visibility you get with the low-cut doors.
- Leviathan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It is a hybrid, it has a fuel cell and a li-ion battery. The word hybrid does not just encompass internal cumbustion engine/ battery systems.
http://www.fuelcellsworks.com/Supppage3681.html - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Concept cars always stray from conventional designs because the auto makers like to combine new concepts to see how the public reacts to them.
I would think of all groups, the people who post on tech sites where there's a huge amount of whining about the lack of innovation and 'dupes' would be more encouraging of attempts at innovation and new ideas. - de-pro9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0watch this all three parts.

- Cleo232, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ok they might save on fuel but why are they always so ugly looking??
- farfrompuken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0diesel me baby.... had a dream that started out like that one time, it got better from there
diesel in a small car is almost as efficent as the hybrids, much lower in emmissions, won't pollute with battery packs, doesn't have a $4-7K battery pack, and the most important if you run it on bio d the fuel is made from veggie oil
diesels give me a chubby - Arcotik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0anastrophe - you want the power of the sun, huh? what if I want to drive at night?
