- anastrophe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4www.fon.com . who needs another VC funded fat/silly boom company, when there's a homegrown network already out there, with surprisingly good distribution already? check maps.fon.com .
it's easy to get the router free if you know someone who has one already. viral, baby! - chembro84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No where near where I live :( then again I live near SFSU, so I doubt even the Google one will make it out here (not very dense in SF standards, but extremely dense if you're from the suburbs, each house is within 1" of eachother)
- monergism, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I though of doing this type of thing for my neighborhood.
Sadly the legal liability outweighs my altruism. 2 Henry VI, Act IV, Scene 2 - byronm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Bah.. Sequoia should just buy california. When can we have real people doing real things taking real risks instead of these hyper-inflated million dollar exit strategy laden "adventures"?
- Vector713, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1what the hell makes SF so special to deserve TWO wifi networks when hardly anyone else has gotten ONE 0.o
- cjsutter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why doesn't this happen in more cities. The internet and WiFi should be free for everyone. It wouldnt be that difficult to set up.
- the_blob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1We freeloading students can only hope though.
- s6t9eve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Whats the point? at any one point in SF i can pickup about 20 wireless signals, nearly allways 1 of wich is open.
- iTorrey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well it is "The City" as it's called in the Silicon Valley. A lot of tech companies are in the area and all.. and by a lot I mean like.. all of them. Google, Yahoo, AOL, EBay are all within minutes of each other on the 101 between Palo Alto and San Jose. It's odd really because this place has so little tech otherwise it's scary. My fastest DSL in Palo Alto (city of the future and all) is 128kb up and down. Cable is like 4mb/s down and 128kb/s up. It's pathetic. Where is our FiOS? I guess they are afraid we'll actually use it?
- chembro84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ever heard of Silicon Valley? :) While SF isn't in Silicon Valley, it's the city where a lot of this whole interweb/computer stuff got started, we're kind of a "techy" city.
Edit: Sorry I meant to reply to Vector713 one post down not you. - cayennenator, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Amazing. Are you people blind to vote for THIS?
- moddakuduv, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0nice story.....liked it
- monergism, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1No but then I'm not an idiot.
- moncur, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Did anyone else see the "S" and the "-Fi" & think the story was about scifi for a second?
- serend, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3yet another story today to hit the front page with no comments.
