- mcbean, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Google is so overhyped, people probably don't even notice the neat things Yahoo offers these days. The open shortcuts beta are real handy when you customize a few of your own. Google certainly isnt the only game in town for search although it remains the old standby, about:blank is still the best homepage.
- TheSiz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This reminds me of something I saw on CNN the other day. According to them, men use the internet to search for scores, weather and read their email. Women use it to forward jokes.
- misterpony, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Old news but nice work on the title--got my attention!
- Linuxrocks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I like it and I can see the the associations. Yahoo is for chatting and planning and simple searches. Google is the techies favorite search tool and hacked all time to customize to our needs and stuff.
It's not just the techies who like google, it's every person in the world. Yahoo has a lot of nice services that they offer, google is just a better search engine IMO. - steve_s, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3so when i use my email i am a woman?(i use yahoo mail)
- subscribtion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So.. if you use dog-pile you're bi... (¬_¬)
- geekgoddess, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"Little missy prissy crap"? Yahoo sucks because it is the visual equivalent of a shriek, not because it's girlie. Real women use Google.
- linuxrebel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2And we somehow are lead to believe that this is supposed to have a different ending? Typical stereotyping all the way through. I don't see any attempt a doing anything but a normal re-enforcement of the "Women Great, Men Grunt" attitude.
- wilf_brim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3....and geeks are from Digg" hehehe

- korteenea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I use the Internet everyday, repeatedly. I don't decide to sit down and "surf some Web" for an hour or so... for me the Internet is an more like a tool or appliance, or a trusted handbook that's always available, and less like sitting down to watch a movie. I use Google, Gmail, Google Local exclusively, not Yahoo. I do make friends online. And yes, those friendships don't just go away when I turn off the computer and wait for me to turn it on again. But judging by the amount of community websites online, I'd say quite an aweful large percentage of men are making friends and chatting it up and probably just don't like to admit it... and if I had to take a wild guess I'd say it's probably because men feel they aren't allowed to say that the friendships they make are important to them. Anyway, I don't see the point in making "studies" like these. What does it matter how the individual sexes use the Internet? In the end it doesn't really tell us any important information... all it does is perpetuate stereotypes.
- firebird2110, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm a Google girl. It's not any great preference just a habit and I see no real reason to change the logo in my FireFox search box.
Gods I just hate these stupid generalizations, they always make me feel like an oddity. I use the internet for everything. The list of stuff 'women do' yeah I do all that, the list of stuff 'men do', all that too ... except the sports scores ;o) - IceUck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1women view the Internet as a place to extend, support, and nurture relationships and communities. Men tend to see it as an easy way to see nekkid chicks
- Midnightbrewer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The funny thing is I find that currently Yahoo is returning better search results than Google. It turns out it's not just me. According to the guys at TWiT, Google's engineers agree.
- Continuum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ghostaliaz, I consider myself to be a quite geeky but, In the words of a great philosopher "oh your God".
That was the longest 4 sentences I have ever read. - tanxadillo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's not true! Their are no girls on the interwebs!!
- cmdrNacho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"How is Google simple? That implies that Yahoo is complex in some way."
I think he means just by how the sites look. Look at the two sites, and you should recognize that the google site is very simple compared to yahoo. I hate sites like yahoo and msn for the fact that theres so much crap on it. I like my google homepage, Digg, slashdot and register RSS feeds... thats all i want =). - drbroccoli, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sexist *****. I hate when someone tried to put me into a category. I've always loved the Internet because it's like having a library at my fingertips.
Now now, it's just an analysis based on the average user. It doesn't imply anything. - flock31070, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm a Yahoo! man.
- multifaceted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How is Google simple? That implies that Yahoo is complex in some way.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the internet is for porn
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4446981554735098778&q=internet+is+for+porn - oldgeek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Oh no! My wife's a man.
- zebwinz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Pretty true story, my wife uses only yahoo for her searching and surfing, while i prefer the simplicity of google.
- triad1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Sexist *****. I hate when someone tried to put me into a category. I've always loved the Internet because it's like having a library at my fingertips.
- generalleoff, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Should be girls and boys. Mature men and women don't seem to use the Internet :)
- oldcyborg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I would like to think I picked Google, but in reality, Forbes did it for me, several years ago. I remember, sitting on the pot, reading Forbes, and they were talking about google. When I finished, I went to my computer, bro't it up, and started checking it out. Cool. Very simple download. Perfect for me and my dial up clients. I made it standard on any dial up computer I worked on, which was nearly all of them at the time!!!!
even since, the searchs give me what it is, I need. They are NOT as good as they used to be, but there is more content, and I think the engine starts losing effecacy at some point. They will have to fix that, but they have me for the long haul. Desktop, toolbar, and so forth.
It does what i need, when I need it, and is still the quickest search engine to load, in my opinion...

si - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I guess this makes women all the smarter... The internet IS a huge community of connected computers really. I consider the dudes on moddb.com to be a sort of family, in a way. Does this make me feminine? Not really. I just have no friends?
- gookie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yahoo & Google.
Well, they just both copy each other.
And I use both. They have their own places. Google for better searches. Yahoo for better services (email, domain, messenger, my yahoo page for RSS, and lots more). - crapiolio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Ture, more than 50% men use the internet for porn.
- xofc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can't believe it took so long to mention the pr0n. That's all the internet is used for, right? Is there more to this thing than digg and well proportioned women?
- WiseWeasel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Agreed completely, It's all about about:blank, though I don't use tabs, so I'm always opening a bunch of browser windows, so having a homepage set is not practical. Got the message boards I follow, feedback for projects I'm involved in, and /., digg, ars, macnn, baka-updates (ok, so i'm an anime junkie), and the google tools, and that's about it. That's just the web though. The main action is going on on irc, aim, bittorrent and my mail client.
- cyberwebwerks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have been coding all night with no joy. I took a fiv minute break to read digg and this caught my eye. First time I laughed today, it;s the story of me and my wife 8-)
- rrittenhouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does it count if the womans last name is "Mann"? :P
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've used google since it's beta days, and haven't looked back. I never did use yahoo, and never understood why anyone would... I don't want to look under their categorized crap. I used to use altavista before that, and google was just a quicker, better, step up. Yahoo's got so much other crap going on I just stay away.
- chadell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0All Generalisations are dangerous, including this one.
- dravidian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This thing is way off - they didnt mention porn usage at all....
- amitrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0DUGG coz the title sounds funny!! LMAO!
- notfoundyet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The title may be funny but it's a gross generalisation. I know many women who look up DIY information on the internet, as well as researching things and "using the internet like a library". There are a lot of men who find comunities out of the internet as well, I mean, isn't one of the most common reason why people use the internet is to talk to like-minded people?
Anyway, according to the article, I think I'm 97% male, 2% female and 1% pissed. (I'm female, btw) - mattclare, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Please, don't infer what Yahoolagins grow up to be. It's an industry that needs people just as any other does.
- poohneat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0men search the net for nekkid chics cos the internet is pron
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4446981554735098778 - Junx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Google calculator takes the cake when it comes to coolness. Extremely useful for both fun and mathematic computations. Where else can you find information like how much force is needed for "1.21 JIGGAWATTS at 88 MILES PER HOUR!"? http://www.google.com/search?q=1.21%20GW%20%2F%2088%20mph
- gdziengel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So who do I track down and shoot for putting me in the Yahoo category? I'm so used to Google that all the ads on the Yahoo homepage make me slightly ill. Same goes for gmail vs Yahoo mail. Last time I checked my yahoo mail, ads took up almost half my screen. Here is to Google, where ads are even occasionaly useful and never give me a headache.
- IceUck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Agreed. Anyone that makes sweeping generalizations is a fool.
- Jeral, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Humorous, but I tend to agree. Example is the instant messengers. GoogleTalk is very simple. You need to talk to someone, you can talk to someone. Yahoo! Messenger has a lot of fluff. You can create your custom avatar. add links to your profile, and do a lot of other stuff that might be fun, but isn't really needed. Google is efficient. Yahoo! is... not.
- supergeorgina, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Except for this:
"94% of online women and 88% of online men use email"
I don't feel the rest of the statistical differences are big enough to make much of a difference. Seriously, who gives a crap? - greekgoat91, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0lol, yes Gmail rocks
- dvdavid888, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0so ture

- NuttySquirrel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Title's a bit misleading, but an interesting read.
- theBicyclist, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Heheh, interesting fact. Google gets things done, like men.
Yahoo! offers little missy prissy crap that distracts.
