- Fodderley, on 10/10/2007, -1/+137Seems like MD is going down hard... The internet belongs to the people not to some asswipes who make their living on screwin over the mother of a 14y old who downloaded a song.
Thanks to MediaDefender-Defenders for fighting this war for all of us. - Floris, on 10/10/2007, -0/+104For people who wish to talk about these recent events feel free to join EFNet's #mediadefender-defenders chat channel.
- imablackguy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+87More like it turns into "oh shi---- we're bankrupt"
- synaesthesia, on 10/10/2007, -1/+79Thanks for the fake 4.6 GB torrent of Dexter last night MediaDefender. Now i'm just going to download it anyway, plus seed for an extra three months just to spite you.
- Elbart, on 10/10/2007, -0/+77This turns into bone-picking now.
ME LIKES! :D - scarwars, on 10/10/2007, -1/+74and this was given by an employee of MD?
this just gets better and better.. - sl9sl9, on 10/10/2007, -7/+75MD have already been sending lawyer C&D letters to any site mirroring the previous leaked files. When will they learn that trying "internet damage control" only increases the drama, multiplies the mirrors, and entertains the rest of us a great deal! They really are thick as pig *****.
Lawyer threats + Internet drama = entertainment++. The internet is serious business! (tm) - WizardGlick, on 10/10/2007, -3/+68MD certainly are arrogant assfunnels. Serves them right. Also it looks like slyck.com is back up from being DOSed.
- ohthehumanity, on 10/10/2007, -1/+47Yeah because you know the feds dont know how to use proxies.
- Ebacherville, on 10/10/2007, -1/+44Dang I'm starting to feel sorry for these MD folks... OK I don't feel one bit sorry for these schmucks.. its called blow back you start screwing with people ina big way and you get a reaction.. Nice to have to sleep in the bed that you made isn't it.
- funchords, on 10/10/2007, -0/+40 > I know I am not going to be popular here, but I do feel sorry for

I'm going to give you my +1 diggs, even though I disagree. I hope others do, too -- because your opinion is common (but misguided)...
Nobody has to do what they do.
They interfere with legal, non-infringing P2P by attacking the networks themselves. Some countries pay an additional tax on discs to be allowed to download music more freely, and yet MediaDefender maliciously invades and poisons their efforts. Despite MD's broadbased and illegal attacks, they are a merely a nuisance. The "security" they provide, at a rate of thousands-to-millions of dollars per client, is completely ineffective. Finally, this "expose" of the emails and clients has proven their arrogance and contempt -- not only for sharers, but for their customers as well.
Perhaps their original intentions could be justified -- protect copyright owners from ILLEGAL infringement. But, instead, their mission became a self-righteous "SCREW ALL P2P AS BEST AS WE CAN."
And in a final irony, I note that their e-mail messages are protected by the free version of AVG -- copyrighted software that, for business use, requires a purchase to use. THEY ARE COPYRIGHT INFRINGERS, THEMSELVES! - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+38Still, extra security never hurt anyone.
- sl9sl9, on 10/10/2007, -1/+37... with an anonymous IP, from a service like Tor (free) or Relakks (not free, but cheap). Media Defender and/or the party van people (FBI) will probably be in there as well logging IP's and PMing people, trying to find out who dunnit!
- redwards, on 10/10/2007, -0/+33Every day, this story gets a little bit better.
- imablackguy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+31bots have a list of all .gov and MD ip ranges, and are autokicking
- qwuinc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+29That's a possibility. But I guess another possibility is that someone has been snooping around long in their network. Once you get in without anyone noticing it's easier to hide your presence...
- inertic, on 10/10/2007, -2/+30When will these asstunnels learn.
- jrwr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+24MediaDefender-Defenders.com -- We now have a better transcript of the phone call and a Enhanced Audio too :)
- yessuz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+24hey. I'm from Lithuania... You know, small country, near Baltic sea, member of EU...
Anyway, the guy named Funchords wrote this:
"Some countries pay an additional tax on discs to be allowed to download music more freely, and yet MediaDefender maliciously invades and poisons their efforts. "
Yes, i can confirm. We have additional tax of 6% to EVERY, I mean EVERY floppy/DVD/CD/whatever type/HDD we purchase. and this is exact reason why we have it: our MPAA analogue collects this tax because "it's possible that I will make a copy of some ltu pop singer song" ( i know it sounds rubbish).
Anyway - we do have such tax for EMPTY media. - wisam, on 10/10/2007, -2/+24Don't use Tor for bittorrent. You're only eating the bandwidth that would rather be used for anonymous readings and writings. Use bittorrent encryption that is probably featured in your bittorrent client.
- Fodderley, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21so what... It's an IRC channel not Bin Laden's hideout... Nothing to worry about...
But if you're really that paranoid get an IRC bouncer. - miguelzinho, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21Hahaha, check this out: http://pastebin.com/f323c0e18
The comments inside the code are so funny! For example:
MetaMachineHashSetCollector/ServerObject.cpp:62: //HELLO ***** - HyperJack, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21At this rate, MD will be finished soon. Leaked emails, leaked SRC. How much can a company like this take!
- donte, on 10/10/2007, -2/+21Do you have that comment hot-keyed for any MD post that comes up? From one of yesterday's MD posts:

MD have been sending out lawyer C&D letters to any site mirroring the leaked e-mails, and have been "meeting with the FBI". Talk about locking the stable door after the horse has bolted!
By trying to do "damage control" on the internet with lawyers, they are merely increasing the quantity of mirrors and drama exponentially, providing endless entertainment for the rest of us.
The internet is serious business! (tm). - Jugalator, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19LOL... And this time it's not from a stupid decision to relay ALL company mails to a Gmail account, but from an actual unnamed MD employee. Haha, it has to be like Reality TV over there now, namely: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mole :-D
Anyway, this is good. I like open(ed!) source.
Stuff is getting leaked from that place faster than they have time to send out scary C&D mails. :-p - Puppetx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18This is hilarious, I would imagine the "bone-picking" will continue until MD gets off their arses and closes the gaping holes in their network.
How incredibly irresponsible of them.
I betca they are blaming this on being high profile and not on having terrible security. - absinthemind, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16Full article:

Similar to the previously released e-mails, tracking database and phone call this leak is also spread by the group that goes by the name “MediaDefender-Defenders“. In the .nfo that was posted with the torrent we read:
The source is complete for their operations regarding Kazaa, bittorrent, gnutella etc. This system is now released for the public in order to identify the decoys they set up. A special thanks to the MD employee that gave this to us.
It appears that this leak was not collected from the e-mails. The MD-Defenders themselves claim that a MD employee handed over the files to them, but this hasn’t be verified by other sources at this point.
This leak contains a wealth of information and seriously harm MediaDefender’s future operations. BitTorrent tracker owners and other admins who are involved in managing P2P networks can utilize the leaked information to brace themselves against companies like MediaDefender, who try to pollute their networks with fake files.
From the leak it seems that MediaDefender is active on virtually every P2P network, including Usenet.
Not surprisingly, most applications are dedicated to BitTorrent, which is probably their main target because of its popularity. Application names BTPoster, BTSeedInflator, BTDecoyClient and BTInterdictor make it quite obvious what they are supposed to do.
At this point it is still unclear who the MediaDefender-Defenders are and how they got their hands on all this information. MediaDefender has announced that the FBI will be investigating the source of the leaks.
To be continued?

MD rolls 1 - Erazrhead, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15I called Media Defenders in LA and asked to speak to Jay Maris. I said I was a "fan". The receptionist quickly passed me on to their public relations dink who was quite exasperated and rudely hung up on me. hahah... A very satisfying experience.
"People sure love their pirated movies." -Randy Saaf - xOKxWhy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15Can't wait until tomorrow to see what leaks from MD
- ilgaz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14I am sharing those files on Azureus for a long time, at one moment it was down to 20 seeds and something happened, it went back to all time high. The time they sent CD letters, people not sharing decided to share again. That is what happened without doubt.
- mymidgetfriend, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15If it wasn't for MD, I never would have been introduced to the term asstunnels.
- jmeskimen, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15From what I've read, the only 'gaping hole' in MD's system was a dumbass employee who used the same username/pw for a BT account as he does for gmail.
- ilgaz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15This will be nice for future security of the protocols attacked. Even the paid movie business (Bittorrent.com,Vuze.com etc) will benefit from it.
- Jugalator, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13They said it was from an employee, and I find that quite likely, as the mail access they had wasn't from network presence, but because some idiot there bypass their mail security by forwarding the whole thing to Gmail.
But sure, in a way I hope it *wasn't* an employee. That would make the whole situation on MD hilarious! Who was it? It was you, huh, HUH?! - Floris, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12I think one blow back to the industry who ***** with people over copyright laws constantly is something that's at least acceptable. It is unacceptable that a governed law firm paid by the industry orders a company to break the law to entrap possible pirates and paedophiles. You are a risk if you do this, and it backfired this time. The internal information is made public and being analysed by people who they're probably after, resulting in information becoming public that simply discloses the operation of these type of institutions. Yes, I agree, nitpicking isn't needed. But if make a fire, things might blow up once in a while. I am against software piracy and if something is illegal in their country it is simply illegal. And you run the risk of being caught. But that goes both ways.
- HighOnTCP, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Dugg up for the use of the word "assfunnel"! Almost as good as the term "Douche Nozzle".
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12I've always wondered, do Tor or Relakks help make your bittorrent downloads anonymous?
- drek, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Best one so far: //if its a movie set the artist to be something stupid since movie artists typically say something stupid
- Spor, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10This whole MD situation is extremely odd. I never thought I'd be the one wearing the tinfoil hat...
- algorythm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9I tried to send them an email saying on their website the news section(http://www.mediadefender.com/news.html) is out of date but info@mediadefender.com rejected my email. They must be getting blasted and shut down their email...
- Stevo23, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9The source code for all the apps MediaDefender uses to do its anti-P2P activities has been leaked. They say it was given to them by an MD employee. This is very good news because it will allow site operators to block MD's garbage.
- LyKwId, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10MD better start getting a new set of laywers........ to handle their upcoming bankruptcy filings
- kris33, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Great! This developing story is getting better every day. Wonder what the next step will be. I hope MD will sue someone, and fail in court.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8this is way beyond a leak....more like the dam broke, and washed away the village...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8you need to watch more porn. that outta fix your vocabulary right up.
- Animal, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10And the FBI is clearly too dumb to also use a Tor type service.
- jonpotz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8I found these amusing...
MetaMachineHashSetCollector/HashSetClientConnection.cpp:41: m_buffer.Clear(); //discard this nasty ***** pile of queer data
GnutellaProtector/GnutellaSocket.cpp:619: // First check to see if we are connecting to a limewire reflector...if so we gotta do a bunch of stupid ***** - NiX0n, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8I don't think there's an actual employee. I think MD-D is ***** with them.
