- Mythrl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+73There is actually an episode of Southpark where Muhammed is a character with lines and the episode was aired without any controversy or censorship...It was the episode where Jesus, Muhammed, some Indian guy and a bunch of other prophets are a team of super heros and they have to kill a giant Abraham Lincoln with a giant John Wilkes Booth.
- JudgeDredd, on 10/12/2007, -3/+31Sneek is a town in the Netherlands. I think you mean sneak.
- tonyhartfield, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24because the character was featured in an earlier episode
- trialofmiles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22@Mythrl
Yep, the name of the episode was Super Best Friends, a summary of which is also at wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Best_Friends - funkytaco, on 10/12/2007, -5/+24Allah doesn't, though.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19@aitzim:
yes, but this character looks the exact same as the character in the super best friends episode, who is clearly identified as muhammad - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18well, he also said "beed"
- itsjake88, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/9444/yeah3qw.jpg
Thats Muhammad. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14I'm a fundie Christian, and I gotta say, as much as I think it's horribly wrong to make fun of Jesus, I'm not going to try to stop anyone from making fun of him.
Seriously, what would you expect from people who don't share your beliefs? Why would I respect cows if I don't think they're holy? You can be upset and offended all you want--there's nothing wrong with that--but trying to get people who don't share your beliefs to live by them is ridiculous. - Yorn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15LONG LIVE FREE SPEECH.
DEATH TO THE CENSORS.
Err, yeah. Sorry, I'm trying to be "jihad"-ish for inalienable rights.
Freedoms can be bought, liberties can not. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16How do they know thats Muhammad?
- heretik, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13This is the ep that first showed the prophet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVrWtamt6fA&search=south%20park%20best%20friends you can clearly see that this is the same muhammad.
- xanik266, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Cheers to Mythrl!
IMHO... South Park may be considered 'rude,' but they made a great point in last night's episode... and that's although they may be 'over the line' a few times, their comedy brings up great, valid points, and shows just how stupid we can all be at some point. - vertigoblue, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10you mean g is like 6 upside down?
- cypher35, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7It would be interesting to see a group of random digg users participate in a spelling bee with a bunch of third graders... I have a strong suspicion that we'd lose.
- screensnot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6What are you talking about? I don't think I've ever seen an episode where Cartman didn't bash Jews.
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Do you expect them to have an mercy towards anyone? The whole point of South Park is to make fun of everyone. That's the kind of humor it is. If you don't like it, don't watch it.
- DisposableRob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yeah, tame jokes like Cartman dressing up as Hitler and trying to kill all the Jews.
- Yorn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6No, and here's why:
"In light of recent events, we feel we made the right decision," Comedy Central said in a statement Thursday.
I also like the term - "equal opportunity offender". South Park makes fun of it all, and they don't pick "sides" except when it comes to liberty. They deserve more than the Peabody Award, they deserve the Nobel Prize for LIterature. No TV show to date has had such a profound positive impact on the lives of the young generations. Because of Trey Parker and Matt Stone, after the second great depression starts in 2012, we'll arrise a better nation that will destroy centralized (and corrupt) government for many generations. - gutterboy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7This two part episode was one of the most important hours of television in many years. South Park is the leader of free speech.
- ashester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4good for them :P
- mtrip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If you're going to call someone out on their spelling, try not to misspell anything in your criticism. Just a thought.
- RichMan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Oh dear, now the muslims are going to make a cartoon about Americans crapping on each other. . I hope you're happy. lol
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I just think the that the whole Danish Cartoon thing was great. The cartoon pokes fun at Muslims for being violent. The Muslims (or some of them anyways, don't want to generalize) get angry and react with violence. They made themselves look like fools and proved the cartoonist right. I am so happy we have a public education system in the western world.
- tangledupinblue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This isn't about offending the religious, its about defending free speech. It saddened me that after the Danish newspaper (Jyllands-Posten) printed the original cartoons featuring Muhammad, several European newspapers showed their support for free speech by reprinting them, but I didn't see a single US paper do so. Free speech is under attack, and the US media is silent. Regardless of how juvenile the method in which they chose to do so, Trey and Matt stood up for free speech when then entire American media failed to do so. Trey and Matt are heroes for creating Cartoon Wars.
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3world war 3...
but it shows how stupid the whole situation is. "Suddenly" its not ok in the west to represent muhommad with an image.
Why should people be afraid to offend muslims? They've been flag burning for years and years and that offends us.
In fact its law in some muslim countries to not depict muhommad, but its law in pretty well all western countries to not flag burn.
That's the real problem, placing religion above nationality allows people to justify pretty well anything with divine right. (hence, "god told me to do it".) - zweben, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I still can't believe Comedy Central wussed out.
Argh... - mtrip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The point is, what price does our freedom of speech have? All it takes to inhibit the American media's right to free speech (and therefore the people creating content for it such as Southpark) is the threat of violence? That's it? Regardless of whether you believe it's funny or not, they should be able to depict Mohammad. They should be able to depict him crapping on Saddam and on the Saudi flag if they wanted to. But all it takes is a pointed gun and suddenly the first amendment goes out the window.
- randomtask, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Heretik, You fool! You'll kill us all!
...Or maybe demonstrate to us how two guys stood up to closed-minded hatred. Whichever. - felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5If you can't handle a simple word like "sneak," please get an English-speaking adult to write your headlines for you.
And people wonder why Digg gets a reputation for being lowbrow... - abbott75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Lol, we even have a 'Check Spelling' button.
- malhussaini, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I really don't think that Osama Bin Laden watches Southpark...
- DisposableRob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"most hated character on the show"
Who's also the most loved character on the show.
Well they've never written about Palestine either. SP's topics are really American centric, so I don't know what you are looking for with regards to Israel. - staunch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You mean we'd loose right :D
- teamparadox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"I can see what SP was saying. Family guy is just random crap like "what did you do today... I'll tell you what i didn't do" then a joke with Mr T comes in or something. It is a childish way a writing if you think about it."
Well thats the point of it though, its just random. Your right in saying it isnt "smart" but that doesnt mean it isnt funny. - tsupersonic, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11Last night's episode wasn't that great. The part I liked best, was the fight between Cartman and Kyle. The part where Cartman says, "Time Out", then slaps Kyle, then "Time In."
Cartman is the best. - Yorn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4You don't have to like the actual show to appreciate what they are fighting for.
- teamparadox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3So they win this little game Comedy Central was playing with them.
As far as whats better, South Park or Family Guy? It depends on what you like, for Social Commentary you should watch South Park, for random bs watch Family Guy. Each is at the top of their game in their respective forms of comedy and I just so happen to enjoy both. - v0id, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6...and... whats the point of this "sneakery"? Was this the reason they are being censored? Thats really lame if it is.
- Yorn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually, I just viewed the actual video and can confirm it's really Big Gay Al, **NOT** Muhammad. But people on here are right about his image being used before, The following is a link to a clip of a previous show that had his image:
http://www.tvsquad.com/2006/04/09/muhammed-was-on-south-park-before/
EDIT: The link below by CritterNYC is the "non-blog" article link of it. - 1911wolf, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7As funny as it may be, I can't digg it due to "sneek" and "beed". Whatever those are...
- Darth_tater, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2good for them...
south park is not afraid to go there... and they shouldnt be.
if you dont lik what somebody says then tell them, and dont listen...
if you dont like a picture of something thn dont look at it.
if you dont like whats on tv/Rradio then use the two knobs.... THE OFF ONE, AND THE TUNEING ONE....
edit: somebodys gona wonder... so im just gona say this.. i am an athiest - marix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2does itunes have this episode yet? Is that download censored aswell?
- Aeiri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Was it or was it not in the censored episode of South Park?
Answer: Yes.
Now, how is the submitter misleading you in the description?
"It turns out there has beed an image of Muhammad in the opening credits of South Park all season long."
Seems to elaborate the topic perfectly. - behemothaur, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4
It makes me sick that you would connect in any way 911 with South Park - WTF?
"That's what makes it so great to live in countries like ours not China."
They love political cartoons in China - they dislike ones with US rhetoric - so do I. For *****'s sake. US abuses of human rights are well documented - take a look at this you brainwashed warmonger:
http://www.amnesty.org/
Let's send 'em all down to Gitmo - nobody knows where they are or when they'll leave - keep safe Matt & Trey. - Yorn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Yeah I found this translation:
"Derka, Derka, Jihad. Abdullah, Mohammed. Derka, Derka, Jihad."
I have no idea what it means. I don't speak Farsi. - hexalite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nice photoshop haha.
Southpark did a good job emulating the Family Guy cartoon and voices but the Bart Simpson render and voice was horrible! Though it was still hilarious to see Bart knocking people out with his skate board. I'm surprised no one has mentioned that yet. I wonder what kind of permission they need to use the characters? - CritterNYC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Here's the clip on YouTube for anyone who'd like to see the original appearance of the Prophet Muhammad. It aired, uncensored, on July 4, 2001. "Super Best Friends" Basically all the major religious deities and prophets.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URtNqCDymrk - MAG1CO, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Damn your right, I thought they meant that cartoon wars episode in particular, good post anyway. My badddddddddd
- Aeiri, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"What's the big deal?! Buddha, from the same episode, is also featured at the top/back left of the screen. This is a NON STORY."
Maybe if you don't know what's going on right now...
The image of Muhammed was censored by Comedy Central and they instead showed an image of Jesus deficating on Bush and the American flag. Apparently, they didn't even censor Muhammed, they just put him somewhere unnoticeable! -
