- regyt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27My friend, Newman, told me they are meaningless.
- yellowbkpk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7http://maps.huge.info/ has tons of similar data layed over Google Maps.
- master_of_fm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7zip codes are actually based on delivery routes and not necessarily geographic boundaries, but there are predetermined range of numbers for large regions
- max15characters, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Well, http://acg.media.mit.edu/people/fry/zipdecode/ might help. Another online map from zip code app. REQUIRES JAVA.
- LaPistola, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5that is really cool.. how do zip codes get decided anyway?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5This is nothing but an Ad to sell a database of zip codes.
- coding, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You can map zip code boundaries in Google Earth already if you didn't know, now you do.
- disrupter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Page is timing out
- Qubous, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Me too. Let me just whip out my handy pocket phone book.
- PaulOwen, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5No digg for not actually working.
And for being ***** already. - drowe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So your ZIP code must be closer to 0, given you meant to say 'intelligence of people living....'
That one back-fired on you there... - wehriam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2ZIP Codes are collections of addresses. Wikipedia has a great article on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zip_codes
- Rounin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ahhh, the power of Digg!

- krakelohm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+199502 Yeaaaa baby me is jenyus
- parcelbrat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Its not totally accurate sense it is based on 2000 census data. For example 99207/99208(Spokane WA) were shifted since then, and 98077(Woodinville WA) was added as another Zip code. That was just in the past 2 years, and just off the top of my head. I vote buying from the post office if you want the actual correct (somewhat) data, and using ben fry's map (linked multiple times above) if you want a good map.
- deepsub, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3This isn't very interesting. I can find zip code boundaries with a phone book.
- Kentdigg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Postal codes in Canada provide an outline of an area. You don't even need the town or province name on a parcel or letter if you have the postal code on there.
- Avogadro65, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Don't worry, reading comprehension isn't for everyone.
- gfixler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So is Bernardston, MA, with a ZIP code of 01337. There doesn't seem to be a place with the code 31337. I imagine the folks there are so 1337, they cannot be tracked by current technology.
- MrTea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1digg effect
- camtech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cool. Where I live the town was built around a railroad (long time ago) and the zip code changes at the railroad. So half the town has one zipcode and the rest, a different zipcode.
- emooney, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Newman!
- alecperkins, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@kentdigg, same in the US. Each ZIP code is unique, however the Postal Service prefers the city and state to be included for redundancy and fault tolerance.
- hypercube33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Lame. I have used this ever since GE beta.
- retawd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That was the best message I've seen. A popup that says "hey, please call ahead and make reservations for parties of 100,000 or more..." very nicely and in fewer words.
- Kickersny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Even though that requires Java, it is so damn cool. I'd digg that as an individual story.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For those who want to use it, they just moved it to:
http://zip-code-boundaries.com/index2.html - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://zip-code-boundaries.com/index2.html?zip=75070
Hacking html code is 1337. - maguirer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Then digg it, foo...
http://digg.com/programming/The_most_fun_you_ll_have_with_zip_codes - JimNtexas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's a much better site than the original posted one.
- henrygwensonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OT Has anyone else noticed that mapstats.blogflux.com is down? Also, is there a forum that Diggers use for sharing instant news or rumours that haven't been published yet?
- dankarran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's probably just because zipcodes cover large arbitary areas, so it's likely both towns share the same zipcode.
- deml247, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0drowe--okay, cool use of perl, but still lame.
- brhad56, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4+digg for new term *****
- TheRebel88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"When you control the mail, you control information"
- mlasuk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Digg affect; They disabled the mapping software.
- MattPF, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This has been around for over a year at: http://maps.huge.info/zip.htm (it's much faster as well)
- dankarran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It looks like PHP to me ;)
I like it - it'd be cool to have the map full screen though. - airjrdn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Check this one out - http://acg.media.mit.edu/people/fry/zipdecode/
- wehriam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And it's back.
- nocode, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I could be wrong here, but I've noticed that zip codes are based on location. If you start in the NE region (Lexington, MA my hometown is 02420) and move further out west, the #'s get larger. New York for example starts with 1_ _ _ _ and California goes to 9_ _ _ _. Anybody agree/disagree?
**didn't see wehriam's post about wikipedia. the map shows that #'s go higher from east to west. - darrinclement, on 12/29/2008, -0/+0The best explanation of how ZIP Code boundaries are made is
http://maponics.com/blog/2008/12/10/how-is-map-abl ... - 2Stupid4Me, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0anything similar for European Countries?
- drowe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There is another one available, that I've setup:
http://maps.roweware.com It also includes States, Cities, and multiple ZIPs (comma delimited) - wehriam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sorry to have to disable mapping - even with static content the (dedicated) server can barely keep up. Cheers to Digg on a Friday afternoon!
- ipaddressreport, on 09/18/2008, -0/+0Try this one.
http://search.zipcodeworld.com - stacyspear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This was the original zip code site, been online almost a year!
- tkdan235, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3forget 'the website is digged' -- It is officially called '*****'
This link, for an example, is def *****. -
