- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9good, tell me what kind of car you drive
- jboi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5a girl rejecting a $15000 ring...
this is a hoax! - Sirocco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yeesh. No woman is worth a $15,000 chunk of rock and metal.
- semvhu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I'm never locking my car again.
- kualla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Kind of funny how the police noted in the police report how the man decided to keep the ring... I bet the police were hoping he would turn it over as some sort of evidence then go and auction it off to put it towards their doughnut fund :D
- cprior, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The receiver probably read this:
Ten Reasons Why You Should Never Accept a Diamond Ring from Anyone, Under Any Circumstances, Even If They Really Want to Give You One
http://www.fguide.org/Bulletin/conflictdiamonds.htm
You might want to google for "diamond cartel"
http://www.google.com/search?num=20&hl=de&q=%22diamond+cartel%22&btnG=Suche&lr=
or try to find a non-subscription copy of the lenghty article "Have you ever tried to sell a diamond"
http://www.google.com/search?q=%22Have+You+Ever+Tried+to+Sell+a+Diamond
Most fascinating reading -- not ever, but... ...well, you got the idea!
Here is another link: "The diamond invention"
http://www.edwardjayepstein.com/diamond/prologue.htm
And will the original poster now please stop spreading links to plain vanilla news articles? Brings back memories of discussions with those elitists -- is this social experiment called "digg" one of their next "evidence"? - spiderland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"this bs article needs to be removed from digg"
Well, report this as "Okay, this is lame" or something. Everyone who believes this isn't Digg-relevant, please do so. - thegrinder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2AND this is Massachusetts. It could have been a man rejecting him for all we know...
- lilfroger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2jboi
money can't buy love...i know it is a stupid saying but it doesn't matter how much the ring cost...if he was not right for her she would say no. I'm proud of her for not being swayed from what she truly felt by something shinny. - datnewf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1what about diamonds mined in Canada by unionized workers who are getting paid fair wages?
those ones OK to buy? or did people in other countries die because of those as well?
(i suppose the argument will be that there wouldn't be a need to have conflict-free Canadian diamonds if there was no conflict, and that people still die because of them indirectly blah blah blah) - invader, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1sounds like something that would happen to me. i'll just try to remember to get a cheap ring.. real cheap... like a $0.25 plastic one :)
then if... err.. when she rejects me, i'll leave it in someone's unlocked car. doubt that'll make it to digg, though - Kryptonitfusion, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2My love is gone now too...8'(...and I prolly would do that do
- LeFrenzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Christmas", reminding you of evil bitches around the world, 2 weeks a year.
cheer up to the broken heart dude, you should have used that $15,000 for a Civic Si '06. - mushoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"http://www.fguide.org/Bulletin/conflictdiamonds.htm"
Did anyone else think that the list should have been reversed?
I think people dying is more serious than whatever society has conditioned women to think about shiny *****.
I'll be an ***** and bring Jerry Falwell into this. After all the prick is neck deep into the diamond business. How's that for the Christmas spirit, poor African children will live to see another year of arduous back breaking labor DIGGing up shiny stones for which they are unfairly compensated. Fat Christian ***** gets rich and so do warlords, meanwhile we sit here and bitch about a story that might not be real.
Happy HOLY-days - disgruntled, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1on dec 3, i had about $1500 damage done to my car so the moron could steal a stereo that wont power up without a copy of Primus - Pork Soda (no really the stereo allows you to key it with any CD) i wish i woulda found this instead.
- rohcky, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I left my car unlocked one time. All I got was a moldy ham sandwich.

I agree. It's that time of year for fake stories.
But how do you know it was a girl? It is Boston afterall, it could have been a man/bf. - thegrinder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Anyone ever consider that the woman died and that was her old engagement ring?
- multifaceted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Poor rejected guy, I hope he has a supported friends, or family to go home to.
- angelharp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Noticing that not one girl commented on this, I personally find it depressingly romantic. To think that the guy loved so much... if only I could find that.
- barium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You see, this is all part of his plan. He couldn't win the girl through more traditional means, so as a last measure he is attempting to snowball a huge sob story drama-fest in the media by donating the ring to someone along with a note. So far his plan is working - he's obtained national attention (the chick has most undoubtedly seen) and he comes off as a philanthropic god who held her love above all else - even a $15K ring.
By banking on the fact that the average person seeing that note would be emotionally overtaken by his love tragedy and alert the local media/authorities - he has essentially guaranteed success with this woman. What woman wouldn't fall for a guy who would so willingly donate a $15K ring in despair of her love?
This guy friggin' knows what he's doing. - sunnyboy06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The woman did not reject the ring; she died. Hardly rejection. I think that this is one story that shines a light on the Christmas season. The man who gave the ring should be a little happier as he has made other's dreams come true at christmas.
- Midnightbrewer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Poor guy. I've been there too, and it's especially depressing at Christmas."
You've had someone leave a $15,000 ring in your car, too? And this depresses you why?
I have too much love, myself. I live in Japan, and my girlfriend is annoyed because I am going to be interviewed to teach at an all-girls high school. What's a guy to do? - chadell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thats right, diamonds are not cool anymore. Too many dead africans.
- tsbardella, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Fark is a nasty website -makes me feel so yucky inside. Digg makes me feel positive and hopeful. This is just one more piece of evidence to that.
- WilliamTanksley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hmm. Someone I know recently got a similar lesson on the power of positive thinking. He'd lost his apartment and was in financial trouble and was packing up his stuff in his car; after he put his computer in he left for another load, and then realized that he'd left the door unlocked. Well, he immediately used the Power of Positive thinking to say, "Wouldn't it be nice if someone saw me having to leave, and opened my car and left a check for me, in the amount I need?" Sure enough, when he got back, he found that someone HAD seen his desperate condition, had noticed the unlocked door, had opened it, and stole the computer.
And then he went to his mom and bragged about the positive thoughts.
I don't know; I could have been that careless, but I wouldn't have been that wishful. And if by some chance my carelessness cost me my computer in that way... I wouldn't have explained it to anyone at all.
So, um... Don't leave your car unlocked. - rc_collins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I feel the same way as that guy that left the ring. My wife got wierded out thinking that I was going to leave her for my girlfriend. Well, now I can only ***** my GF at swing clubs, and our plac when my wife is home. It is a total drag and just makes me wonder why god allows so much pain.

Buzzzz. Incorrect. Social news and social bookmarking are NOT the same.
Digg is a technology news website that combines social bookmarking, blogging, RSS, and non-hierarchical editorial control. With digg, users submit stories for review, but rather than allow an editor to decide which stories go on the homepage, the users do. - Incinerator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A $15000 White Gold ring? Dennis Prager, and Michael Savage called, they want the entire focus of their careers back, otherwise they don't have anything else to talk about on the radio.
Any extreme leaning to a particular side can be called a disease. Voting against your economic interest in the hopes of marginalizing people different than you seems like a disease to me.
Islamo-fascist ideas and attacks seem to fit the bill too.
Lets not forget the Christo-fascist brigade and their spooky ramblings about the war on the war on the war on the war on the war on Christmas.
How about instead of attacking and disenfranchising the other side with a 'mother knows best' attitude we discuss the issues like adults.
Yes I know, I'm guilty of what I accuse.
Lets call this a truce. - spiderland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Actually, all of ImANicePirate's submitted articles have been ripped directly off fark.
Lame. - ImANicePirate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The story has since been posted on CNN with a picture for those who are interested.

All the stories I've posted were apparently found on fark and sent to me by a friend. I feel retarded for not knowing... that is pretty lame. - nubs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yes, its been plastered all over national and local news. Maybe it was a hoax to get publicity for the designer of the ring... it just doesn't seem very plausible for this to just happy. Though, it probably did the guy even went to the police to report it.

Since when did we start talking about hockey? *ducking and running* - cwoolf34, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ohhhhhh, the stupidity of people during the holidays. I bet the guy who left the ring will either try to claim credit after the holidays or just be pissed he gave $15,000 away like that. It's always funny to see how people are extra nice during the holidays and then, bam, after new years it's back to being an a-hole. Kind of like the stupidity of the last few weeks of your senior year in high school, eh?
- subygl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0damn. i would have sold it. i just don't understand rich people.

How do you know how old I am? I'm probably even older than you dumbass. And if thinking that giving $15,000 to a homeless shelter or food pantry is a better idea than just throwing it away to some random well off person then sign me up I guess (even though I've never voted for a Democrat except for Russ Feingold, and then for John Kerry, which was just a vote against Bush).

So randomly dropping $15,000 into the car of a stranger in a well off area is being good, but giving it to a homeless shelter or food pantry where it can help people who really need help is bad? Who is the soulless diseased person here? Conservatism doesn't exist anymore you idiot. If you are a republican and support George Bush you are not a conservative, you are a foolish tool. -
