- Abx0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Another hint: The guy was from the SAME TOWN.
- MrZop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Somebody isnt getting positive feedback!
- weareglass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3eBay's new slogan: "It, ah, fell of a truck, see?"
- moose_diggs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ahhhhh reminds me of the time I saw pictures for sale on ebay..
Here was the listing:
SEXY PICTURES OF MY EX-WIFE!!!
She doesnt know I still have these
Were getting divorced ..so screw her.. HAHAHAHA
So .. I scroll down to find that the pictures are of MY EX-WIFE!!!!!
The one pic he had on the listing was of her in bed completely nude with black strips over her parts.
She remarried about 3 years earlier and I guess ***** that dude over same as she did me.
He was getting his revenge.. I sent the guy an email telling him who I was and he asked if I had any pics to add to his auction and we could split the $$$. I didnt feel right doing that. I only had some wedding pics anyhow.
So I did what any good ex-husband would do.. I BID!!!!!
I won the auction for $35.00...
The pics were very explicit...I knew they would be.. shes freaky like that.
I used the pics as leverage to get custody of my sons from her , which I had been trying to do for almost 5 years.
Dontcha just love a happy ending. =) - stereo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2My band actually had all of our stuff stolen a couple years back. We did a search on eBay a couple days after it happened and found a guy who was selling some of it. I bid on all of it and won, then called the police. They went to the guys house and confiscated it. Turns out he bought it from a flea market. We didn't get all of it back, but we got most of it. If anyone cares...haha.
- jinexile, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3A scratch, smudge or hell how about the serial number, it's this wonderful little number on practically everything worth more than a few dollars that is unique to that specific item. Some people do actually write that ***** down incase stuff like this happens.
- noclue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Has anyone heard of serial numbers? That's usually a fairly good means of identification.
- multifaceted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1To do list:
Personalize my portable electronics.
Write down my serial numbers. - TC-14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Perhaps he had an engraving? Or a mark of somesort on the camera?
- spin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ebay is and has been the biggest fence for stolen goods in the world. It should be in their moto.
"You steal it, We Sell it." - Math-Sux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1noclue - Thank you and well said.

Thank you, I was wondering if anyone was going to mention the serial number.
Even if the thief scratched the numbers off there are other ways of finding that info out.
(Ever take a look at a JPG from a camera with a hex editor?) - bonlebon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1think about this as a ramson paid for the camera.
- rockdave, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2A friend of mine had his entire music CD collection stolen while on vacation. He went on eBay to replace some of the CDs and ended up buying back his own Blink-182 CD. How did he know it was his? His sister had carved her initials in it. The criminal never even noticed. Very funny!
Selling your hot ***** makes theft very unsportsmanlike. - missusdee2005, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Man, that BLOWS. Glad the cops are "speaking to" the seller!
\lost iPod on plane coming back
\tempted to buy one from eBay to replace it, but was too disgusted by thought of potentially buying own iPod back
\\bought shweet new 60 gb video pod instead - jpatch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1dugg, but how did he know it was HIS EXACT camera?
- SomeFool91, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The battery, a scratch mark, a paint mark, a cracked glass, etc...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I really suggest you write down your serial numbers people. I had a roomate steal $600 worth of electronics on the day he moved out to another state. The MPs wouldn't do anything. They said I should have wrote down the serial numbers and kept the receipts. Nothing ever happened, even though I had IM logs with him talking about how he stole it. I have little faith in the system.
- imtigger2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ooops, never mind, it was stolen from a restaurant. Forgot about that part. :)
- imtigger2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As a semi-pro photographer, I own many different cameras and I can TELL, just by holding one of mine, that it's mine. Some here are correct... a little scratch, an annoying sound you can get rid of, a zoom ring that sticks a little..or moves too fast, a button that's too 'easy' or sticky... it's not all that hard to tell if it's yours, especially if you use it all the time. Hell, it probably had the guys strap, lens cap and camera bag with it.
I just can't believe the thief would sell and ship to an address he stole it from? - Bleepinpunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Worst post EVER. Please post something that has more info. than the summary that you submitted.
- UriMcFlurry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0BURN!
- Darth_tater, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"A small scratch or even a recognisable smear could identify it for you.
This is the weakness of eBay, it's too hard to police."
how is that a weaknes? ;) - ThisGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sorry, but that's the most info available on the web on this story. And clearly it's still interesting, 1300 diggs and counting.
It would be good to see the actual auction page, and the feedback. hehe - shadeone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0for the guys who are asking how this man recognize his own camera, you must know that serial numbers are engraved on every camera (outside, inside) and every lens and expensive accesories has also serial numbers.
When you declare your camera stolen and if you have these numbers, or the bill where the numbers are writted down, cops are entering it in a database, shared worldwide. the items are frequently checked at custom in airports, etc... so you'd better never travel with a stolen camera :) - bastien, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0next step: blind-date your divorced wife on adultfriendfinder
- MrKickass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Damn, What are the odds of somebody doing that? Great digg.
- jay0312, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Classic.
- iXneonXi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't know about German law or ethics, but I sure hope that the person who stole it gets in trouble and the man who bought it gets his money back. Atleast the vendor could be removed from ebay.
- coolgeek61813, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sorta like that lady who found her stolen ipod on eBay. The thief was dumb because on eBay he showed the showed the back of the ipod that had be personalized by the person that is was stolen from.
- CanuckMakem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Can't wait to hear this on diggnation
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is a stupid-a$$ story. I cannot believe 1800+ people dugg this.
- GTAcrimelord, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Who the hell actually pays attention to the serial numbers on anything they own? I could identify a unique mark, scratch, scuff, etc on just about 90% of the things I own, but I couldn't tell you 2 digits from any of those same product's serial numbers.
- intelmustdie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sounds like it's time for a kraut beat down.
- oldcyborg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think the fellah oughta hunt down the thief, and Kill Him. Outright. The trick is, of course, that you don't wanna get caught, cause the camera isn't worth THAT much. It is just the principle.....
Cyborg
yeah, just to show ya! - FatBoyPT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the guy that sold that cam is one unlucky bastard
- ThisGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"A 44-year-old German businessman"
Nope, it was a guy alright.... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good times!
- spamdies, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The serial number usually gives it away...
- ThisGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0One filthy, no good, theiving, unlucky bastard, fatboypt
- pondster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0We had 2 employees that we felt were stealing from our company. We started selling our product on ebay and Yahoo, in pricing research we found someone one toen over selling the same exact items we were selling (Japanese anime import items) doing a little research on the sellers we found it was one of our employee's girlfriend. Upon all our research, we accounted for $25,000+ worth of stolen merchandise that he moved through ebay and yahoo auctions!
- brhad56, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I would love to read the feedback this guy left.
- robgtheengineer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Funny stuff!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice, that must suck; at least he found the camera ;)
- Mushroonaut, on 07/11/2008, -0/+0just too gooood!
- skyhighrockets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hahaha. nice. good thing is, he will get his money back probly, becuase police have the guy red-handed.
- tidejwe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Who says he even wrote down the serial #? He could've easily had it on the manual, or box it came on. Lots of electronics put the ID #'s on the box and on the manuals now because nobody ever writes them down. I'm sure neither of those were stolen. Besides, the seller could be telling the truth...he could've easily bought it from the flea-market off some random guy on the street and went to sell it back on ebay. It's basically impossible to prove the seller stole it. Justice really is blind...
- siouxmoux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Now That just plain Lamecastic!
