- praveenmarkandu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13LOL, those dogs are gonna get assassinated by some international DVD pirate cartel.
- punkrockxtian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Out of curiosity, when they say the stash was worth $430 000, are they referring to the actual retail price of the DVD or the street price of the pirated version?
- jsreid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7DVD Sniffing dogs... interesting...
- jerryparid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Probably street price; 430k / 150k disc = $2.87 per disc, which seems like an awfully low number for retail.
- thomashallock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=dind
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Silly noobs...
Piracy is not really a profitable business...
Now, Cocaine and many other drugs...
Man! That's a billion in a few years...
Columbia Here I Come! - tidu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yeah 4.3 makes sense, we all know how those pirates like to cut DVDs up into tenths and piece them back together to avoid the po-po
- abcdefghij, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5not only did the dind dorgeries of authentic DVDs, the police also dind dake IDs and direarms. Further investigation on the crime scene also found traces of illegal frugs.
- nbcivic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4yea really, i wish i could use one to find my lost dvd's. Idk what happened to my sin city dvd.
- ICSU, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5They are gonna walk the plank, aye.

- mattym, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Porbably smells like Pirate ejaculate mixed with MPAA *****.
- beavioso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@sotopheavy
The dogs can smell the plastics used in making DVDs and CDs. They cannot tell the difference between legit and pirated, and the cops don't care. The point is, if the dogs find a huge stash of DVDs and CDs, the people who own that suitcase, luggage, whatever better hope they have the proper receipts or whatever to show their stash is legit. And then I would assume customs would be pissed cause you didn't declare or pay the import/export tax or whatever on the hidden stash.
I'm pretty sure the authorities are not gonna bust some people with a 100 CD carrying case, unless they're all copies. So yeah, maybe you should travel with your original CDs or spring for that ipod. Stupid dogs.
Now that I think of it. This will just lead to the huge pirating groups to stop crossing borders with the CDs, DVDs already pressed. Might as well just carry hard drives with you and copy them at wherever you're final destination is. - larfus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Somebody's going to want to play fetch with a DVD on a cliff very soon I bet.
- Hipple, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7I think a better question would be "How do you dind?"
- K4P741NxKRUNCH, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4430,000 dollars worth of pirated DVDs?!?
Man, that guy would have to not sleep for his whole life to watch all those..
That explains it! They trained the dogs to sniff for mountain dew!
- K4P741NxKRUNCH, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The article said over 150,000 discs were found..
Close.. - wikityler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I just sniffed a spindle of cheep DVD+R, and they smell like celery and barf, even after being unsealed for a few months.
- uptown, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6$430,000 ... At $100,000 per infraction, that's what ... 4.3 DVDs?
- sotopheavy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Ok, this may sound weird, but what if the dogs "sniffing out" the cd's and dvd's is not really how they got these pirates. What if the dogs were mentioned to hide the real investigative method of finding old school pirates. I am not saying dogs are not capable of detecting the scent of a CD or DVD and looking around and finding one. I am saying it is unlikely that they just smell a pirated dvd on the streets and lead the cops strait to a facility where pirate dvd's are made.
It seems much more reasonable to say that they are able to trace the purchase of media either by serial number or some new tech. Perhaps even a GPS device on 1 in every 10000 discs. If there was a way to trace the discs there would be plenty of reasons to keep something like this a secret. First of all it would be detected and circumvented by the pirates. Second of all privacy issues. - Hayaemsay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Here's the real song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLsJyfN0ICU - zlintux, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3As I recall the dogs are actually from Scotland, owned by the MPA and "on loan" as a trial to Malaysian authorities...
And yeah, they are going to get assassinated. There's a bounty out on each of the dogs since a week or two ago.
If anyone is curious how the dogs can do this, pick up a DVD-R and give it a smell. Rather unique... - digitalArtform, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm sure most of the real piracy is a legal manufacturer in a foreign country who is contracted to make two million legal copies runs off an extra 2 million for himself -
- limbo1334, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Not if David Arquette has anything to say about it:
http://imdb.com/title/tt0250720/ - DigitAl56K, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They're not from Malasyia - they were trained in Ireland and the **AA's shunt them from country to country to create anti-piracy news headlines.
- code_of_life, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Bad Dog. Baaad!
- nmccreight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, how can a dog sniff out DVDs? Wouldn't they be hard to discern from any type of CD or common plastic?
- tmcdigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dogs sniffing plastic? What is zeh world coming to? Sounds like a good new subject for a rap of

- nerd05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Rather than other dogs trained to smell fear, these dogs can smell guilt.

- netferret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Those dogs are going to be walking the plank, arghhhh!

If you google "dvd sniffing dogs" you get plenty more articles - corvairkid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Screw coke. I'm moving to BRITISH Columbia to grow pot.
I figure If I can get away with it for a couple of decent sized crops, I'll have enough cash saved to start seriously playing the stock market. With low to moderate risk stocks and re-investment of interest and dividends, I should double my money every few years. The payoff of this plan is slower but at least I don't have to deal with potentially getting my head blown off because I didn't bribe the right druglords. - angusm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0News just in. The RIAA has sniffer dogs that can detect illegal MP3s by their unique smell.
At least that's what it said on the subpoena. - scomartha, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Thanks a lot! Very Doubtful.
