- Pooball, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I'll be hosting the booth where you can make LED Mooninite signs.
- techfish, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Another Systm Episode?
- Nearoschyth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Stop whining, I live in central Nebraska. Not even nothing happens here.
- Technopundit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Technology and imagination. A throw-back to an earlier time. And Woz is so cool he deserves a medal.
- WeeklyGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3He's got a bomb! Arrest this man!
Fun living in a police state, huh? - muted0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I live in San Mateo.. cool
- drmobutu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Seriously, somebody should make a template...
- morcheeba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I had a table there last year and talked myself hoarse in the first few hours... but it was great!! I met all sorts of cool people & saw some neat projects that I'd only read about online. A quick list of some of the stuff I saw:
-- a computer made of gears. And one made out of 7400-series logic chips.
-- a giant mechanical walking giraffe (like at burning man, but you can wear clothes)
-- human-powered ferris wheel.
-- a bicycle frame made from clear lucite. With POV led displays.
-- Woz on a segway. And getting dunked for charity. Also, a 4-wheeled segway prototype. And a segway clone that's faster, has a better steering interface, and has fewer safety features (cool!)
-- A nixie tube watch. This year, I'm planning on bringing my pong watch: http://www.maushammer.com/systems/Watch/Build%20Log/Build%20Log.html
There were tons of technology demonstrations, and mini classes to build things (like your own Simon game from scratch).
I met people from all over the US, and talked with the a german couple that had brought their PC modded with an espresso maker. - sherlockian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1so would this mark a one year period of inactivity from Systm?
- danielfe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Last year's Maker Faire was a blast, if you're in the area, you should definitely go check it out. My team will be there for Microsoft showing off some of our favorite Coding4Fun (http://msdn.com/coding4fun/) creations. This is not your typical conference event as anyone with an interesting proposal can participate - http://makerfaire.com/bayarea/2007/callformakers/.
- clickswitch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What I love about the Makers Faire is that for once someone tuned into the idea that crafting and DIY electronics utilize the same part of the brain. It's this deep down desire to make something better or create something from nothing. The wife had a booth there last year in the craft area outdoors. It was great because I could go off and nerd out for the day. Will probably be back again this year. For a first year thing, they did lots of things right.
- blizzok, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Heh, I got my Firefox 1.0 shirt there.
All my friends hate me. :D - morcheeba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1gthing - I was at the table next to you - you guys had some really cool stuff!!
- Venator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hopefully there will be a live taping of Diggnation, oooh and maybe if we are lucky a live taping of Systm.
- beammeup4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1YES! I'm glad they made it in May this year so I can go!
- williamdyer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In a post 9/11 world, anyone smarter than a Boston cop should be registered and tracked as a danger to society.
- williamdyer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As for the mooninite signs, they have enough LEDs on them that the internal resistance is enough to keep the LEDs from blowing up if you just wire them in series. That is, you won't even need resistors. Just hook up a big lantern battery and they should shine for several days, perhaps weeks. Put a Radio Shack flasher chip on and you can for sure stretch the battery life for weeks.
- morcheeba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1well put, TP.
- goat-san, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1they need to do one on the east coast

- chasingcacti, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0so, will that be schematics you put together or ones drawn up from an original?
i have one of the originals. - leontes, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"The Arrakeen environment built itself into the evolutionary pattern of native life forms. How strange that so few people ever looked up from the spice long enough to wonder at the near-ideal nitrogen-oxygen-CO2 balance being maintained here in the absense of large areas of plant-cover. The energy sphere of the planet is there to see and understand - a relentless process, but a process nonetheless. There is a gap in it? Then something occupied that gap. Science is made up of so many things that appear obvious after they are explained. I knew the little maker was there, deep in the sand, long before I ever saw it." -Frank Herbert, Dune
- bwilstyle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0What the heck is this? Why is this on the front? Get it off me!! err umm... cancel all my appointments? Maybe I could make a parachute for an organic egg.
