Major Google/Intuit Partnership
techcrunch.com — Google and Intuit are announcing a partnership today at 1:15 pm PST. The meat of it seems to be that they are building Google services directly into Intuit ’s QuickBooks, so small business users will be able to list themselves on Google Maps, create and manage advertsing campaign with Adwords and post listings on Google Base.

- dantek, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9This partnership has huge potential help small business grow. Both Google and Intuit could benefit immensely from this partnership
- marrington, on 10/12/2007, -18/+4Which company do you work for, Google or Intuit?
- VipeNess, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2that will be an interesting partnership.
- masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@marrington: It's called excitement. Because, you know, some of us LIKE to read the news, and not just make obnoxious comments about it.
- gosix, on 10/12/2007, -8/+7I just like to make obnoxious comments about it.
- natey1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I want google to release a free online quicken clone w/ direct compatibility, DROOOL!
- sundancekid503, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Too bad quickbooks is a pile of *****, any amount of google integration still wont make that software package any sexier.
- mcwiggin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Hmm.. wonder where the heads of google and intuit met? I wonder if it was at an Apple board meeting seeing as Eric Schmidt just joined the apple board and Bill campbell has been on the board for some time.
See here: http://www.apple.com/pr/bios/bod.html- evgen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3There are easier ways for the management of the two companies to meet than both taking a trip to Cupertino. They could, for example, WALK ACROSS THE STREET....
Until quite recently Intuit's campus was literally across the street from the embryonic googleplex, and now that Google has begun to expand like a tumor across the landscape of Mountain view the two parties need to walk a whopping six blocks. Check out the map (the old googleplex used to be in the circle of space between 101 and the Shoreline golf course) and take into consideration the fact that this is from "official front door" to "official front door" rather than the easier hike through parking lots like a normal person would do...

- brady47, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0so much for not doing any evil, but maybe partnering with evil(Intuit) doesn't count.
- ThreeGs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Love Google, too bad they had to join with a company who disdains customers, and thinks support is a four letter word, as in PAID. At one time or another I have purchased and attempted to use nearly all (including the on line version) of Intuit products. The latest round was a purchase of the Intuit Premier Small Biz Edition plus a one year technical support plan. Total out of pocket over $500. Support was worthless, even when I could understand the "Engrish". So I did the unthinkable, I switched to MS Money for small business. Total cost $89. And that includes unlimited FREE technical support! Forever! Plus instead of "Engrish" I get pleasant, articulate support in real English. As a 90% of the time Mac user there's little love lost on MSN, however compared to Intuit, Gates and company are like angels from heaven.
- brady47, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I haven't switched yet, but have tried and liked Moneydance. It is all java and so works on linux, mac, windows and it does online transactions too
- Dribblemaker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Along with the support they charge for, I also hate the advertising. Now some will say that a finanacial package as complete as Qbooks has to use advertising in order to supplement the cost of the programming that is needed, I say baloney. Why not offer 2 versions? One without the advertising... it'll cost more (which I would pay for). The other with the advertising which costs less. Not to mention they are always downloading more advertising in the background, and don't even get me started on the "You-have-to-connect-to-the-QuickBooks-server-to-email-an-invoice" feature. Grrr...
- altcountryman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree, although my bad Intuit experience was with the much-beloved TurboTax. I'd been a TT fan for years, but 2004's version kept giving me trouble that wasn't corrected by the updates, and zero help from tech "support." I've been a MS Money user for years since the free trial on my first PC (you never forget your first), it's a solid program. No more TurboTax for me, I used H&R Block's program and just put up with the annoying ads for their tax prep services.
- MoneyShot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5God, how I wish there there was a viable alternative to Quickbooks. It's too bad that Peachtree and MYOB are so sorely lacking. Inuit has mastered the concept of in-program cross-promotion and upselling. As a result the application is bloated beyond belief and annoying as hell.
- Go to print checks: "Hey, want to buy official Quickbooks checks?!"
- Add employee: "Hey, want to signup for official Quickbooks payroll services?!"
- Add a credit card payment: "Hey, want to signup for official Quickbooks merchant services?!"
- Around tax season: "Hey, want to signup for official Quickbooks tax services?!"
- Regularly: "Hey, your company file ought to be backed up regularly. Want to signup for official Quickbooks online backup services?!" - pengas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0interesting indeed. I see value for small businesses and even medium ones that haven't used google to create extra revenue or attract more business.

- bitterg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2An announcement of an announcement! Up next, an announcement that we'll soon be announcing an annoucement later that will involve computers and Google!
- Netmindstorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Note to Intuit: How about Quickbooks for Linux? There is something that would help some small business owners. BTW, I agree 100% with MoneyShot---all those damn reminders can get rather annoying, but as an overall product it does a very good job and I like the overall workflow (at least for the things I need to do within QB)
- ant1832, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Here is the official press release with more detailed info and some screenshots.

There is also a forum setup with some faqs.
http://www.quickbooksgroup.com/.ef4c040/ - dooraque, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I read "Inuit" instead of "Intuit". Go figure!
- haggie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0This is just a marketing deal until Google launches gAccounting and finally shoots the dead horse that is Intuit.
- retech, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1not really sure I'd want to give google even more access to my private accounts on a business computer... seems like google will next be indexing your receivables and payables.. perhaps there'll be an "I'm feeling like paying my taxes" button
- MicroBerto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1To me, it's not that huge of a deal (at least yet)... but just another piece of the puzzle toward's Google's domination of the world.
- thestu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You better believe there will be Google ads on small businesses' websites. Adwords...Adsense... way to go- again- Google. i'm glad i'm on the user end of your business model.
