MTV smacks YouTube, posts almost every music video ever

arstechnica.com — Do you sometimes find yourself wishing that there was a place you could go to just watch music videos? Back in the 80s, MTV served that purpose.MTV is looking to redeem itself in the music video department, however, by launching a new site Tuesday called MTV Music that opens up the company's massive video archive and puts it on the web for free.

  • DigitAl56K, on 10/29/2008, -6/+41Check out the fact that to create an account you have to agree to six, count them, six different agreements / privacy statements via one single checkbox. Oh, and if you're using Firefox 3 it checks that box for you when you try to view one.

    BTW at the time of writing Rick Astley was #1 top rated. I think MTV just got served.

    I blame Road Rules, and every other trashy reality TV show born from it. They are like weeds, dulling peoples' minds, choking out the music.

    I'm glad to see this collection online. I'm going to check out some vids before this beta site gets ruined by something.... like reality internet.

    WTF are you talking about? These dickwads came along WAY after MTV was finished. See, MTV used to play music videos, with an occasional comment from a VJ (the equivalent of a DJ). And that was pretty much it.

    Now we get to watch *****-quality compressed garbage while hunched over our keyboards. EXCELLENT.

    It's people like you who ensure that we will have nothing whatsoever to show on our 50-inch plasma TVs.
