- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+97I want everyone to do this the next time you go to the movie theater.
If they play one of those ads telling you not to download movies, I want you to jump up and yell "Holy crap! You mean I can download movies for free!?" - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+85"You could become infected with a virus or worm. Go to www. respectcopyrights. org and download PARENT FILE SCAN to find out."
Oh hell no, I'm not putting any program that the RIAA cooked up on my PC. I trust p2p networks more than these guys. Plus they also dramatize it and make it sound like pirating rapes women and destroys villages, jeez.
The RIAA set us up the bomb. - revthwack, on 10/12/2007, -2/+86I love their little quiz with the horribly misleading questions.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+72Illegally sharing movies hurts over 750,000 people who work in the movie industry.
False, Illegally sharing movies hurts the ***** on top who give their money to scientology, the 749,500 people below them get paid salaries that don't change except to match inflation. - noamsml, on 10/12/2007, -1/+59Yeah, it's so full of FUD that the stench actually sticks to the HTML source code of every page it's on. No, seriously, try opening the source code in Firefox and smelling it.
Anyway, here are the real answers:
1. FALSE: Piracy is not theft, it is copyright enfringment, a completely different offence. While the two are often confused (intentionally) by *some* entities, they are not one and the same.
2. FALSE: Your IP address is tracable back to your name if your ISP cooperates, which they often do in the case of copyright infringement.
3. KIND OF: While many P2P filesharing programs come with spyware, it is not the filesharing program itself that is problematic. There are also many filesharing programs that are completely clean and don't have spyware, such as bittorrent.
4. FALSE: First of all, many of those people are on constant salaries, so even if it does hurt sales, it only hurts producers and the such. Secondly, there isn't really conclusive data on whether the impact on movie sales is actually significant. The data varies.
5. TRUE: The fact that the question is horribly worded aside, most P2P programs allow you to share only what you want to, and Bittorrent only shares the specific file you are downloading unless you host a tracker or something of the sort.
6. TRUE: What they don't mention is that lots of that mislabeling comes from anti-piracy sources. - MioTheGreat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+56You're absolutely right! This shows a massive reform needed in the system.
I'm going to develop a new P2P application that rewards uploaders with porn.... - Coopjust, on 10/12/2007, -0/+45That bothered me too. I picked up a copy of Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story. I knew that it was leaked onto the internet a month before release, but to support the creators I waited for the DVD to come out and I bought it for $16.99.
I put it in my DVD player to be bombarded by five antipiracy warnings and how illegal piracy is. What the hell? I PURCHASED the movie LEGALLY.
Those warnings weren't on the pirate. They punnish the people who get it legally. Idiotic. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+43one of his hands should have been out of sight
- sinsurgent, on 10/12/2007, -1/+41Oh, this is definitly gonna get the kids to stop downlaoding.
- blargman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+42@Software2 LOL!
ya luckily for the Pirates, we have editing software to remove those gay messages - D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+40Captain Jack Sparrow says:
"Back in my day we stole REAL *****..." - Maasneotek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+40Heh, I agree, the look on that kids face is pretty damn near the most intriguing thing about that ad. I think the question is...
Personal information, Stolen movies or Porn; whats he looking at? - samlucia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+40All three of course!
- toasterbum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+38It's typical to save all your important data such as backups of bank account numbers and such then save them in an mp3 then put it on THE INTERNET!
back in my day the internet was safe.... - TPrime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+33They'll probably put up these posters in all the places that people actually buy music and movies - like video stores, music shops, etc. They're obviously going to do this since I bought the Family Guy DVD and they tell me "DON'T STEAL THIS DVD" after I plunked down $20 for it. Idiots.
- eggdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+32Last I checked, I really can't be exposed to porno or get a virus just by UPLOADING copyrighted media. I just can't take them them seriously with errors like that.
- cuppyCake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+30I love how on a flyer that tells you that P2P programs could give your computer a virus, they use screenshots of Mac OS X.
- stangy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+30This is just a glimpse into how clueless the MPAA really is.
I mean don't do it!!! Why?? because you might get free Porn? cmon!
Identity theft?? Even more stupid. The fact is that the kids targeted in this ad have no idea what that even is! - dwoloz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+29The quote:
"A free movie might actually cost you it may be free but it could come with a VIRUS"
That just screams to me: "We intentionally propogate viruses on P2P networks so watch out" - Zaetha, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31The personal info of the star on that stolen porn movie, of course.
- StephenChow, on 10/12/2007, -9/+37Here's the link to the actuallity picture so the blog doesn't get any traffic - http://mpaa.org/MPAA_Poster_22x32_FINAL.pdf
Not a blog you say? I don't know, looks awfully bloggy to me - awhiteflame, on 10/12/2007, -4/+30Exposed to pornographic material on the internets? NO WAI!!!!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25All the things mentioned can also be acquired just as easily simply surfing the Internet.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+34I want you to look at your keyboard. See the key between the 'T' and 'U'?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+243. If my computer gets slower and slower, with lots of pop-up ads, there might be a P2P network downloaded on the system.
True False - Mausen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23"If my computer gets slower and slower, with lots of pop-up ads, there might be a P2P network downloaded on the system."
A whole network? Wow! I don't have to sit and wait for all of these torrents to finish, then! - mateo60, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22I love how they have the backup credit card information file in their P2P sharing folder. Maybe I should stop putting mine there.
- D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21I, a teen, now know the risks of Piracy and will NEVER pirate anything ever again, ever.
In the words of Oscar Wilde:
"I don't think half as many people would pirate games and movies if they didn't give it such a cool name"
ARRRGH - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21No, see... that's what happens when you steal. It's true! The MPAA told me!
- Feyr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21true. when is the last time you saw a kid with an identity? and one worth stealing??
won't happen, ever - sambtravis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19If you check the picture for "FAMILY'S FINANCIAL RECORDS' who the heck creates an MP3 file with their family's financial records or grades or family history and every form of financial and personal info?
//edit Dang, Toasterbum got there first - xJVz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19They say piracy is theft; I thought the MPAA was a bunch of lawyers? Lawyers know for god damn sure that piracy is NOT ***** theft; theft is a legal term, copyright infringement is a legal term; they're not ***** ambiguous.
- Chaos12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17It makes you slightly translucent as well!
- lowerlogic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15"If my computer gets slower and slower, with lots of pop-up ads, there might be a P2P network downloaded on the system."
Downloading an entire network is impossible. And MPAA, if your computer is slow, maybe you should stop downloading Finding_Nemo.exe, SpiderMan2.com, and stop clicking on email attachments, Links in IMs from people you don't know, and going to malicious Russian porn sites. - andreascliment, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Downloading a "serious" computer virus!? The MPAA are getting super super serial!
- hackwrench, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16"what child wrote this anyways?"
The RIAA... or rather in this case the MPAA. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14In all fairness, they're probably reffering to P2P apps where you share directories. You'd be supprised how many people just share their C drive.
(Even if, you know... their "screenshot" says otherwise) - heavensblade23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Exposing people to pornography? Why, those scoundrels!
- D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13I would use it...cut my downloads in half....maybe even more...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17Captain Jack Sparrow and the Black Pearl won't stand for this!!!
- cogen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13In release news:
The MPAA made a release to the press which states "There are boobies on the internets". - dagamer34, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16This is clearly FUD.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13HOLY ***** JESUS SAVE ME NOT INTERNET PORN!!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I did the same. Got it off BT to see it when -I- wanted to, then bought the DVD to 1-support the creators, and 2-coz its the right thing to do, and I then get bombarded with the "don't steel" adverts which I didn't have to sit through on the pirate copy.
Way to encourage people to not pirate you ***** douchebags!! - Lane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11if your downloading bank backup.mp3 you dont deserve to call yourself a pirate!!!
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Free porn?
- jeru48, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9How is this a tech deal?
- HanSolo69, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Extra Credit: in case of accidental pr0n, keep both hands on the keyboard at all times.
true/false - TheFoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9The quiz is priceless. Who the ***** would be retarded enough to keep tax returns in a shared folder?
- 10scott10, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11I swear i know the kid in the picture.
