- CovardeAnonimo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+103that quote about region-free DVDs likely being pirated copies, someone should tip the MPAA about porn industries practice of releasing region 0 DVDs.
- TenebrousX, on 10/12/2007, -7/+82argh, why wouldn't the poster just link to the MPAA site?
- forchilli, on 10/12/2007, -13/+86riaa blows
- jerbaker, on 10/12/2007, -9/+65Yes, I'm on a campaign to mod down all idiot comments that say copyright infringement is stealing. Once more for the slow people: When you steal something, like a car, a television, a radio, or jewelry, you are depriving the owner of their possession. If you steal a TV from Best Buy they can't sell it, if you steal my jewelry I can't wear it, and if you steal my car I can't drive it. Copyright infringement has taken nothing from anyone.
- alphacorvus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+47I like how they say that all-region DVDs are likely pirated. I've got several 100% legitimate all-region DVDs..but they sure as hell weren't released by the MPAA.
- Bean945, on 10/12/2007, -2/+46Thanks for saying what everyone was thinking.
- JoeShmoew, on 10/12/2007, -5/+44RIAA: An organization that sues children.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -15/+52The definition of 'pirate' is also very vague.
If you download them and watch them at home, you're fine. They don't like it, of course, but there's not much they can do about it.
Generally their definition of piracy is those who also share, which is what the lawsuits are about. They won't attempt to sue you if you just download it.
Honestly, I haven't seen a decent movie in a while. There's maybe 1 or 2 a year that's even worth buying. The rest are typical "eh, I'll rent it and never watch it again" - and honestly, I don't feel like leaving my house to rent it.
So I just download it. There's not really harm in that.
Hell, even the ones I copied from Netflix, I haven't even watched 75% of those more than once. Sure glad I didn't buy them. - TheAstronomer, on 10/12/2007, -7/+40$$$
People don't make movies for free. - skyhighrockets, on 10/12/2007, -5/+32Nothing caught it, not even duggmirror.
- lukas88, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30It is only stealing if you let them convince you it is.
Not that I need any moral justification, but if i did, I would think of it as promoting a change in the dictatorship that is the MPAA and RIAA. How can that be bad thing? - shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -3/+27captain obvious contributes to the conversation!

- D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Anyone with information on suspected video piracy operations is urged to call the MPAA at 1-800-662-6797. Callers who provide information that leads to the arrest and conviction of persons engaged in video piracy may be eligible for a reward. A separate reward will be paid to the first person who provides the location of a pirate video lab. The pirate lab must consist of 10 or more DVD Burner towers at one location used to produce unauthorized copies of MPAA member company motion pictures.
Information may also be furnished via E-Mail if directed to the email Hotline at the MPAA in Encino, California. Informants may remain anonymous if requested.
I hear the reward is 200 blank Cd-r and 100 DVD-r plus a Dual-Layer DVD-RW with lightscribe... - DDoSAttack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16@IMustBeEmo
Actually they are defined the same. One (theatre) is just a variant of the other (theater) - vayav, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16I download. I delete. I like. I buy, I spread the word. I don't like, I move on never to think of it again.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -15/+30That is typical ***** from you.
The movies suck, so I have no problem not paying for them.
If they suck, why do you watch them at all? Is your life so sad that you feel you HAVE to watch movies, even if they suck?
Seriously, the "If they made better movies people wouldn't pirate" excuse is pretty stupid. "It is HER fault your homor! Wearing that short skirt! I couldn't HELP but rape her." - repruhsent, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12No, that's alright. You go ahead... I've heard the prison cells are really comfortable these days.
- Godel, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15@jimmy
Too many ellipsis (...) make reading your posts ... awkward. - joeshlub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Yes I've bought a number of movies after downloading them. Requiem for a Dream is a prime example.
- Knoton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12@broomett
actually piracy is copyright infringement, not stealing. At least under the letter of the law anyway. And while I do not advocate either copyright infringement or theft, what the MPAA is trying to do is make us believe that copyright infringement is theft. It simply is what it is, not better, and not worse. - jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11More likely its a waiver saying you committed piracy to find these sources and as long as you pay up now you won't be sued later so long as you stay clean.
Do you really expect them to reward good people? ***** if they tried that people wouldn't hate them as much and they might actually curb piracy! - brasso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Why don't you just put them on digg? Thats like ddos deluxe or something. :P
- gen0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Doesn't everybody see what they're trying to pull? At least to me, it appears that they've incorporated their suing strategy into their business plan. This is their way of capitalizing on the "forbidden fruit" principle that people WILL go for the illegal means of downloading content, thus ensuring that the court cases will not end.
More court cases = more $$$$ that they get from "violators." - idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11...while everyone else yells about something unrelated!
- hypercrypt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10"..., generally are not be available in the DVD format."
Does that seem grammatically correct to anybody? - kuribo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9@D3koy
Well you see, people browsing digg are generally very busy. They don't have tons of extra time, they have places to be and things to do.
Wait... - dougmc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8`I've got several 100% legitimate all-region DVDs'
Yay for the porn industry! - Karmavs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8That's called CNN
- masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Of course, that doesn't mean people are protected on BitTorrent because unless you use a hacked client (in which you'll promptly be blacklisted from whatever tracker you visit), you ARE uploading.
- LividBlivet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9"It is no different from stealing another person’s shoes or stereo, except sometimes it can be a lot more damaging."
Again with the 'infringement is stealing' *****?
If you (MPAA/RIAA) really think it is 'no different' then why, in the thousands of lawsuits you've filed is stealing or theft never mentioned? I'll tell you why. Because it's ***** and you would be laughed out of court if you equated copyright infringement with theft.
Repeat it all you want, it does not make it true.
Enjoy your last lap around the bowl, you won't be missed. - repruhsent, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Why would you bury it for this reason? The information is all over the comments page. It's still relevant.
Oh, you're an *****. Nevermind. - glasgowm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Arg; won't let me edit the above post.
I searched the MPAA site and couldn't find anything, the closest I could find was this
http://www.mpaa.org/piracy_IDmaterials.asp - spudnic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"It is no different from stealing another person’s shoes or stereo, except sometimes it can be a lot more damaging."
Well, if we go along with the metaphor then when I 'steal' another person's shoes, they still have theirs, and I created my stolen pair for free using zero materials. I really don't see how that is more damaging - gharding, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I've done a lot of pirating, but I still have a fair DVD collection. Sadly, it can't get too big because I have very little room (so 400 XviD movies on my 500gb drive is way more convenient than even 50 DVDs).
I'm sure there are some thing's I've pirated that I would have bought otherwise but haven't. But I'm not completely stealing everything! - mikesbaker, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10god damn blog spam
- Bean945, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Same ***** different name.
- glue, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Do people buy movies they've yet to see? Why would someone waste $20-$30 buying a movie they haven't seen when they can rent it for $4 or see it on TV or download it for $0? Isn't it more likely people will buy a movie if they have the chance to see it first with little (or no) risk? The economics here don't make sense to me. My guess is I'd never pay for most of the junk I've downloaded had the opportunity to get it for nothing not exist.
Has anybody ever decided to buy a movie after having already downloaded it? - marshallh, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8So now, pirates know they just need to use 9 instead of 10 DVD burners for copying. Yay for the RIAA's shortsightedness.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Someone pasted the text above. Also some people can get through.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8BTW I got the info from these links:
http://www.mpaa.org/piracy_internet.asp
http://www.mpaa.org/piracy_IDmaterials.asp
http://www.mpaa.org/piracy.asp - spudnic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Ahh, but if your download to upload ratio is below 1:1 then technically you're harming the torrent rather than helping it, even if you are uploading a little
- spudnic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I think that's the first time I've ever seen a ytmnd link with a positive number of diggs
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12jman, as of this moment, you are no better than the retarded Christians who think that it's ok to bomb abortion clinics.
- repruhsent, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Just so you know, it's the DMCA, digital millennium copyright act.
