- thunderforce, on 07/25/2008, -13/+301just $15.000??? some people are so cheap... :(
- Sillywombat, on 07/25/2008, -4/+200SO, they paid $15,000 for info that an intern could have just googled up in 5 minutes...
Seriously, how is this company still running? Its like a bunch of retards with wayyyyy tooooo much funding behind them from the record labels. - kirado4, on 07/25/2008, -8/+194Remember kids copying music and movies is STEALING and STEALING is bad and illegal.. but hiring a hacker to hack into people computers and STEAL peoples personal information is NOT bad!!
It's only bad when YOU break the LAW.. not when I do it?? - championchap, on 07/25/2008, -3/+122So what's new? I mean.. really?
The Bay have been saying the MPAA have been hiring hackers to spy on them for some time now haven't they? - nekroskoma, on 07/25/2008, -5/+90learn2google
- slythfox, on 07/25/2008, -1/+73If it's illegal in the US to take this action, can't that invalidate their entire case? Not to mention that this adds more irony to the MPAA/RIAA situations.
- inactive, on 07/25/2008, -5/+52***** THE MPAA
- AlienMushroom, on 07/25/2008, -2/+46$15000 for 2 whois searches? WTF! I can do that for $14999!
- notwizt, on 07/25/2008, -1/+44"offered to reveal the identities of the Pirate Bay founders" um what? They're not exactly secretive about their identities.
"The site is currently run by Gottfrid Svartholm ("anakata"), Fredrik Neij ("TiAMO") and Peter Sunde ("brokep")"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pirate_Bay - Elohir, on 07/25/2008, -5/+40The **AA are above the law. The whole system is just bought and sold.
- caseycoold, on 07/25/2008, -2/+31wooosh
- uberduger, on 07/25/2008, -1/+29"Anderson wrote to the MPAA: 'We can provide the names, address, and phone (numbers) of the owners of Torrentspy.com and Thepiratebay.org--along with evidence, including correspondence between the two companies.'"
To be fair, the correspondence evidence would be a little tricky to Google up, regardless of your skill at using +, - and quote marks. - MavRevMatt, on 07/25/2008, -0/+24The fact that Windows' control panel had to tell you that just makes you look stupid.
- palewook, on 07/25/2008, -3/+26the snorg tees girl made me forget what i was trying to type..
- teh_spazz, on 07/25/2008, -0/+22Message to MPAA: Pay me and I'll release info about SuprNova.
- PeppermintPig, on 07/25/2008, -5/+25I thought corporate spying was a big no-no in the legal world. This doesn't bode well for the MPAA.
- Seth024, on 07/25/2008, -1/+21Robert Anderson sure scammed them didn't he.
Tomorrow on Digg: Hacker scams the MPAA for $15.000 - Cougnut415, on 07/25/2008, -1/+21***** THE RIAA
- davidlick, on 07/25/2008, -2/+22She was telling you to get Ad Block Plus.
- zorpscorp, on 07/25/2008, -0/+19There is nothing illegal about The Pirate Bay. They are 100% a legitimate company under Swedish law.
- SchmuckofNI, on 07/25/2008, -2/+20And look what it has got them, nothing. You try to kill one site and 8 more pop up to take its place. The MPAA should quit while it still has money to spare. Its beginning to look like what happened during prohibition of alcohol here in the U.S during the 20s....
- Hangly, on 07/25/2008, -3/+20I am only able to feel guilt or remorse when I do things that hurt real people.
Hurting some corporation causes me to feel no guilt. To be honest, it makes me feel like I'm doing something noble.
And seriously, who are the RIAA/MPAA or the government to lecture us on the subjects of responsibility, morality or ethics? - chickengearge, on 07/25/2008, -5/+22stealing = theft
theft = dishonest appropriation of property belonging to another with the intention to permanently deprive
therefore not theft - inactive, on 07/25/2008, -1/+18this type of hacking (ie. corporate espionage) is becoming very very popular, since you hardly ever hear of any serious hackers ever getting caught for anything.... its always the kiddies with their botnets and phishing scams getting busted, never the real blackhats in the shadows...
- MrFurious2k, on 07/25/2008, -2/+19Judas got a pittance too. Of course, he hung himself afterward. *cough*
- MavRevMatt, on 07/25/2008, -1/+17Well I must say to the hacker who successfully scammed 15.00 off the MPAA: Well done sir.
- Monkiest, on 07/25/2008, -1/+17I'll continue to use bittorrent to download free stuff until they physically stop me. See you in court, *****. I shall be explaining to the judge that I can't be sure who was using my laptop at the time the files were shared.
- Hangly, on 07/25/2008, -1/+17Artists' royalties are a tiny fraction of an album's price. For every one I download I might be hurting the artist a teeny bit, but I'm hurting the RIAA a lot. Music will survive; the RIAA won't. This is a desirable outcome.
Think of it as a kind of chemotherapy. The artists will be happier and healthier once we destroy the 80-ton tumor that's attached to them. - tripledjr, on 07/25/2008, -1/+16Wow I'd tell these people to duck but it looks like it went over their heads anyway.
- slurba, on 07/25/2008, -2/+16It's called a joke.
Unless your very statement itself is a joke, in which case your very tomfoolery may cause my head to explode in confusion. - RNEMESiS42, on 07/25/2008, -2/+15Yes, like the ones who don't get sarcasm!
- ruz322, on 07/25/2008, -0/+12Why do I get legitimately pissed whenever anyone mentions the RIAA or the MPAA?
- digitalpencil, on 07/25/2008, -2/+14sellout..
- s0nicfreak, on 07/25/2008, -0/+12How is this legal?
- SeanKeevey, on 07/25/2008, -4/+15This sort of behavior is highly illegal. The pirate bay should file criminal complaints against them.
- sadjoker, on 07/25/2008, -0/+11***** ME!
- 4rp4n3t, on 07/25/2008, -9/+20This is the rest of the world here - go ***** yourself.
- joker10687, on 07/25/2008, -0/+10"Its like a bunch of retards with wayyyyy tooooo much funding behind them from the record labels."
lol soulja boy - MavRevMatt, on 07/25/2008, -0/+9'there'
- smacksaw, on 07/25/2008, -2/+11I think you meant to say "movie companies" and not record labels.
- notwizt, on 07/25/2008, -1/+10The trial is held in Sweden under swedish law. The US has nothing to do with it.
- Hangly, on 07/25/2008, -7/+16We should make ThePirateBay the basis of a new government.
- rhapsody1447, on 07/25/2008, -0/+9I ***** love TPB
- layzice, on 07/25/2008, -1/+10The plank.
- RickyCool, on 07/25/2008, -0/+8Mr. Anderson... we missed you.
- t2t2, on 07/25/2008, -4/+12Dear America,
Estonia is planning to overtake your internet using military of professional hackers. As of that, space will be used for thousands and , for cents. Also during that, we will replace your passwords with ID cards[1].
[1] - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Estonian_id_card - dupswapdrop, on 07/25/2008, -0/+8Tell the judge you want to see the actual bits and have him hold them in his hand! After all thats the evidence they have, it needs to be seen by the court or it's not real. If theres no physical evidence theres no crime. If you get busted for drugs and the police lose the drugs the charges wouldn't hold up in court.
- davidlick, on 07/25/2008, -0/+7"It's a torrent tracker..."
Check please! - Yoshi39, on 07/25/2008, -0/+7Unfortunately your wrong here in sweden all evidence is admissible it doesn't matter whether it was obtained legally or not, however the MPAA could still be charged the hacking
- metaliq, on 07/25/2008, -2/+9Probably because you were thinking "Why the ***** would anyone wear that retarded shirt?"
Right? Because that happens to me a lot. -
