- silicondon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I've got a front page story for you too:
"IT poser wastes everyone's time by whining about something off-topic, and inconsequential (also uses unnecesary apostophe). Researchers have two theories as to the possible causes. The first is likely because the loser in question has nothing better to do than obsessively check her RSS feeds. The second is that this behavioir may be brought on by the knowledge that she will never make a site remotely as cool or useful as either Digg or Slashdot."
Let the flame war commence! - Xoligy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Do the maths. This was posted before /.'s, it just didn't get front page before it.
- knightcrawler75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Great. Now women will have to use a condom on their vibrators.
- nullmind, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7"The batteries they hope to build could range from the size of a grain of rice up to the size of existing hearing aid batteries."
My grandpa ain't puttin' no viri in his ear! - sapo916, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Screw you guys, Digg is for the cool kids and Slashdot is for the virgins.
- toconnor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4In related news, Microsoft announces that it has released a security patch to remove malicous "virus batteries" from affected versions of Windows.
- bsoric, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I read it, but this isn't anything like it as far as I can tell. In Prey, they were specifically programmed to evolve and the researchers had every chance to stop them.
I'm sure that won't happen this time... - mad1stl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yea Crass you tell him!!! BTW there's an apostrophe in "its" when used as "it is". Get the idea Flamer.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5That's incredible. And really scary. Has anyone else read Prey?
- johndi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's only a matter of time before PETA complains about the exploitation of viruses.
- Xoligy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Just don't drop it!!!
- nullmind, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Firstly, I don't give a *****. But more important, and secondly, I don't think grammar was really my aim with that post.
Cheer Hitler De Grammar - crass, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The plural of virus is viruses. Just because a word ends in -us, doesn't mean its pluralized that way. Look it up: http://www.google.com/search?q=virus+plural
- Splitt3rxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Viruses are not livin g organisms, bacteria are.
- Xoligy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dude, learn to click properly when trying to insult me.
- DocDEB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So... all those viruses on my Windows note book are actually good and I'll be able to use it longer between recharges? Cool.
- CutRock, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3uh oh. you ate it. now you have HIV.
- panicofficer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can't see how the nano wires would be very stable. Awesome idea though!
- gator99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What if the earth is a big battery and we are the viruses?
- abdulmueid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I see we are moving towards next generation of technology which is based on a combination of two fields of knowledge, namely Chemistry and Biology. Anyone remember the frontpage story of a DNA powered processor?
Call it impractical or impossible, one day we will be moving around with all sorts of gadget embedded in our bodies to enhance our functionality. - kaiser79, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ars Technica has a great article on this. Explains what this means in layman's terms :)
http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20060407-6549.html - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Portuguese / Brazilian : http://www.htk.com.br/noticia.php?noticia=448

http://www.htk.com.br/ - scards, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Article Correction: A virus is not an organism. It has no cells, and it cannot reproduce on its own without a host. The biological community does not recognize it as an organism, but rather an intra-cellular parasite.
Anyway - biology is really the only way I think that nano technology is possible. There doesn't seem to be a chemical compound that can be small enough as bacteria or viruses are, and what better way to have constant energy sources than with single-celled organisms and viruses which can create their own energy? - dextroz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1xoligy:
"Do the maths. This was posted before /.'s, it just didn't get front page before it."
Hey, you must be British or from a British colony! I noticed you said "maths" instead of 'math' (American) which is more common to the British English. - crass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nano wires doing nano-tasks aren't as brittle as you might think. Its hard being up here on such a lofty macroscopic level. *sigh*
- Tom3579, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wonder what's next! Maybe if they can resequence viruses to "grow" nano-transistors, they would be able to assemble them into small computers!
- Phoenixfury, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2If they start putting these virus batteries into notebook PC's, will your anti-virus software go nuts? LOL
- prlewis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Now the viruses can listen to their little ipods while they're attacking bit of your body, eh?
the real question is... what will they listen to? - ybnormalman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1scinortcele, I thought the exact same thing about Prey
- rxbandit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You have AIDS.
Yes, you have AIDS.
I hate to tell you, boy, you have AIDS.
You got the AIDS.
You may have caught it when you stuck that virus created battery in you. - retral, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Talk about weird science o.O
- whaught, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2It's witchcraft
- Akaji, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1One step closer to the Matrix... HUMAN BATTERIES!!! OH NOES!!! O_O
- gbeirne, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0You did well, right up until "LOL".
- nailz420, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Any plans to call it the matrix?
- Ssandman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0the battery made of viruses is a cool idea...
don't ruin it with your stupid puns and bad jokes =) - treelovinhippie, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Are the batteries automatically rechargeable? ... Just thinking if they use growing viruses, couldn't they just keep growing and supply more electricity?
(meh couldn't be bothered reading the article) - .Steven, on 10/12/2007, -21/+1I have a Front Page story:
IT Pro's are Getting fed-up with n00bs posting Slashdot articles on Digg! (and if it is posted on Digg: put in somewhere the words AJAX and WEB2.0.)

What is Digg?
