heh, I actually wanted to post about that, but the form they use is SHA1, which is supposed to be a sort of one-way encryption. Clever bastards ;-)
(after a bit of work, I got 7 out of 33) - Spadge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I managed 27. That cant make me a genoius.
- carbonNYC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Who knew that MENSA was so CHRISTIAN!??!
I mean, come on, I count at least 3 Bible references...WTF? - Baddox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1huzza, I just got 19/33, looks like I'm a genius.
- AgentPeay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Believe it or not, this type of test can be a good estimate of intelligence (if you excuse the cultural bias); people that did well on this type of test are likely those who are gifted with verbal ability and linguistic pattern recognition. This sort of assessment would discriminate against those with non-linguistic pattern recognition (like solving jigsaw puzzles) and spatial intelligence (like the ability to use a map or see hidden figures in a drawing). The other bummer is that because this test (and others like it) is not standardized on a normative sample, the most you can interpret is "rank" order ... you couldn't really use this to determine a relative intellectual ability. At any rate, it was a fun way to rack my brain and kill 10 minutes... and it caused me to register with digg

- Mabu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13 questions about the Bible?
And they call this an IQ test????
Then again it would make sense that geniuses would know more about the bible than theists.
And yes, the two are on average, mutually exclusive. - nicepants, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A test like this should be required when getting a Drivers License, or car tags. Then they can put your score on your license plate or your ID so that when people see you do something stupid they can see "oh.....he's only a 2".
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Quote "If you brag about your "genius" score than you just proved your not a genius. A truly intelligent person doesn't need to boast about their intelligence." by mogdor, like 3 times... someone is pissed about their score....

"Mensa is just a bunch of people than are lacking in other areas and try to compensate by joining a group than makes them feel like they're somehow better than others. True geniuses don't waste their time stroking their own egos and boasting about their IQ's. They're too busy doing things for the benefit of mankind."
-mogdor
"Because I never said I'M a genius; I just know a true genius wouldn't waste their time with dumb stuff like this (though obviously I would). The question is why did YOU feel the need to respond the way you did? I didn't attack you or anyone else personally, just making a general comment whereas you specifically directed your statement at me. If you perceived my comments as flaming, then wouldn't the intelligent thing be to just ignore me?"
-mogdor.
What a nice, tidy speech. Practicing for Miss America? I don't know about you, but if I was a genius, I'd be getting started on that Evil Mountain Fortress. And hiring henchmen. Lots of henchmen. - MaxD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Lol.
100 C in a E is 100 Cents in a Dollar
... very very sneaky. I can see how that would have tripped some people up. Definately Mensa material. - hyle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've rewritten (using XML HTTP Request object) and published an Italian localization of this test. You can find it here:
http://www.webdomus.it/tao/test_intelligenza_mensa.php
I hope (again) it's kinda useful... ;) - orniter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2As a member of Mensa that has taken a recent test I can tell you that the Mensa exam is nothing like this. There two admissions tests: one test lasts only about 15 minutes and rapidly switches between different types of questions (linguistics, mathematics, spatial ability, etc. - standard IQ test material). The other test is closer to an hour and is broken up into well defined sections. The point of an IQ test is to measure intelligence rather than knowledge (especially acronyms particular to our culture, which would not constitute a globally useful test).
- sovereign3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@caca4cocoPuffs
The test has other cultural biases. If you don't play chess, you may not know that there are 64 squares on a board. Also, I know nothing about the rules of rugby.
The test is obviously inhibited by some of the characteristic shortcomings of "intelligence" tests. Many of the questions are just not fair for some of the test takers.
Still pretty interesting and Fun! - caca4cocoPuffs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cool test, but i really don't see how some of the questions measure the intelligence. For instance, the question with 13 stripes on the U S flag. Some Americans will answer that a lot faster than a Canadian , and a LOT faster than a Somali.
- Wantednz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Stop saying "I don't know the bible", "I don't know rugby", "I dont use that measurement" so it's the test thats stupid. If I don't know there are 7 days in a week or what 5 x 3 is that counts as a mark against me. How the hell are you going to try and measure knowledge if you only ask questions everyone knows.
- Sutrannu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow.
I took the test, and enjoyed it. I'd even like to post the score I managed, but it's obvious from the number of comments here that the bragging and anti-bragging are out of hand. It's just a little game like a crossword puzzle of a game of Tetris. It has about the same influence on the world around you.
diggists sure do like to brag though, huh? Whether it be about how big our brains are, or how much we hate people who post their scores on these things. I've gotta say that if anything either is getting you in a twist, you're taking it too seriously - Auxon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For those of you complaining about cultural bias and all the Bible references -- get over it! So you're not geniuses! Somehow I doubt that you really needed this test to tell you that. Or perhaps this journal article is right -- http://www.phule.net/mirrors/unskilled-and-unaware.html. The Bible is the most ubiquitous book on Earth - if you've never picked it up long enough to see a table of contents, an if you have forgotten the countless times that those numbers are mentioned in other books you've read, or in other trivia games, or on TV, boo hoo! I'm a minister's son and I totally blanked on all 3 of the Bible questions, so it's not cultural bias, I just didn't get it. As for the 9 Provinces in South Africa - I had no freakin' idea that South Africa even had provinces, but somehow managed to guess that one, not to mention the 13 Stripes of the US Flag.

- StuGazzO, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think we need to clearly define intelligence before we embark on any test that intends to measure it. In fact, can you measure it? How would Leonardo da Vinci score in such a similar test and would it really matter anyway?
I think genius is the most over-used and bastardized word in the english language. I rarely use it because, for me, only the very few, both past and present, truly deserve it.
Oh and, yes, I took the test and scored at the "genius" level. And I'm a *****' idiot! The fact that I wasted my time on this "test" is proof of that. ;-) - chevoldavis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+00 24 H in a D *24 hours in a day
