- QuMarsh, on 10/11/2007, -9/+72And check out the home page of the woman responsible for filling these complaints:

Nice confederate flags she's got there! Yuk.Total right-wing nutjob. - Kerakera, on 10/11/2007, -0/+46There's also the rumor that a few child abuse/ rape/ incest survivors support groups were suspended because of 'trigger words' listed in their interests.
- steelfaerie, on 10/11/2007, -0/+43Yes, Kerakera, that is not a rumor. A number of survivor journals have been deleted because the purge was based ONLY on listed interests with no investigation into actual journal content. A partial list is here: http://catrinella.livejournal.com/151812.html
- druffine, on 10/11/2007, -0/+31I had the same impression. Creepy.
- steelfaerie, on 10/11/2007, -2/+30I don't think you have actually read the issue here, which is that along with a handful genuine blogs promoting pedophilia, RAPE/INCEST/MOLESTATION SURVIVOR BLOGS were purged, as well as FICTION writing journals.
And no, this does not "happen every few years." People getting mad at changes in LJ, yes. Mass censorship and deletion at the bidding of a two-bit slapdash watchdog group consisting of 3 fundies, no. - mickaloha, on 10/11/2007, -7/+29Please everyone sit down and just think about the children. It is all about the children. Those sweet, luscious children.
- llamagorama, on 10/11/2007, -2/+21Still no statement from LJ and with hundreds of users planning on leaving. I wonder where this'll all be next week?
- Mikealot, on 10/11/2007, -0/+19Hilariously, she quotes Rorschach from The Watchmen in her profile. Do you think she has any idea what kind of character he is? Oh the irony.
- ataniell93, on 10/11/2007, -1/+19*****, my journals boot2thehead and seventhsnake are there.
The ones with the huge disclaimers in them saying they were RPG villains, they were supposed to be evil, no-one was supposed to emulate them, and they weren't real.
The ones with NO PORN in them. - sovayfox, on 10/11/2007, -2/+20Wankers For Intolerance are not just messing people up at live journal but their leaders run blogs and partake in sites whose purpose is to stir hate against lgbt people. Someone did research on them here:

http://cussedness.livejournal.com/121371.html - cyanidefish, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18At least one of the journals deleted was of an incest survivor. Not a PERPETRATOR of incest, but a former VICTIM who wrote about her experiences. How does deleting her journal help, well, anything?
- miriammoules, on 10/11/2007, -2/+19Either all blown over and forgotten, or else with LJ going bust. The hysteria that this is generating is quite frightening.
- elfwreck, on 10/11/2007, -3/+19Nobody broke any rules. SixApart/LJ's team is claiming "we have been advised that listing an interest in an illegal activity must be viewed as using LiveJournal to solicit that illegal activity...."
If there'd been any warning that listing a crime in one's interests indicated SOLICITATION of that crime, rather than interest in discussion of it, people wouldn't have put crimes in their "interests" list.
They're not even *looking* at user content. They're deleting entirely based on interest lists--including "rape" for rape survivors, and "lolita"--including a book club and a Japanese fashion community. - Grayfox777, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16Did you notice this?
"BUT many innocent/legitimate journals & communities have gotten suspended as well." - linuxrebel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14- You have nothing to fear but fear itself - Roosevelt 1932 Inauguration speech
- You have nothing but fear- Neo-Cons 2001 - Now
- If you chose to live you life in fear, then all around you there be demons - Linuxrebel 2007
I'm so freaking sick and tired of baby boomer fear rhetoric it isn't funny. A lot of my grey headed compatriots need to get up off of their draft dodging boomer butts and take charge of their life and community and stop running screaming into the night "Save me, Save me I'm afraid." After 60+ years on this earth you'd think they would understand.
1. You are going to die... get over it.
2. Bad things happen to those who shirk responsibility.
What happened on LiveJournal was a knee jerk boomer style reaction. No thought went into it other than fear of having to be held responsible for a decision. - Bladespark42, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15mcvarmazi - Let's see... watchdog group of crazy people who have lied in the past AND who give you nice happy spyware when you visit their site? Oh! And who say that it's the fault of the people who put those interests in that they got banned, obviously you can't have an interest in a crime, that's just wrong, and it's all your fault! And don't forget using track back to find people linking to them and harassing those people!
Yeah, sure. I trust them. Lots. (This is sarcasm, if you can't tell.)
There's no way on the planet they "have nothing to do with it" since, you know, they freaking started this whole mess in the first place. - jackiejlh, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14To mcvarmazi:
Actually, LJ has responded to some people. Check out this post on femmequixotic's LJ. She is the owner of pornish_pixies, a site that was wrongfully deleted. Not only is LJ refusing to even consider the idea of an appeal of their decision, their general attitude seems to be "Sorry, too late now." - radu79, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12Did you check the "Grooming" section of her site? http://www.warriorsforinnocence.org/2006/09/grooming-articles.html
Basically, the conclusion is, if a guy is too nice, and helps you without wanting something in return, he is likely a predator waiting to molest your children.
Guess I should ask for money each time I am helping someone. - graycat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12Well I am all for digging this ***** up. LJ has been extremely cagey about enumerating the reasons why they are deleting journals, and shining some light and attention on the issue will put pressure on them to end these persistent rumors.
- ataniell93, on 10/11/2007, -3/+15There was no obscene content WHATSOEVER in the heavily disclaimered RPG journals of mine which were deleted. The characters were villains in a role-playing game and they had a list of the evil things they were interested in in their interest list, but there was nothing porny in the journal. A Mercedes Lackey novel contains more descriptions of rape than that RPG does; they're not allowed. But the characters are known to have committed such acts so it was in the interest list.
I even had in the profile a statement to the effect that these were not real people, they were villains in an RPG, not to be emulated or taken as expressing approval of such activities. - TroubleInMind, on 10/11/2007, -8/+19If the pedos and rapists are banned from LJ, who will be left to troll the fat girls? The furries? I don't think so.
- steelfaerie, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13A full and ongoing list of the purged appears here: http://pedoblogtracker.blogspot.com/
The list includes things like porn_debate, debatification, and taboos, as well as a ton of personal journals. - ataniell93, on 10/11/2007, -3/+13They responded to me, it's in my LJ also called ataniell93. Despite the fact that the journals were RPG characters clearly labelled as villains with disclaimers as such, I can't have them back even if I offer to remove any offensive content.
- stauken, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9http://help.blogger.com/?page=contact
File a ToS against her. Not only does that confederate flag have the words REDNECK MAFIA on them, which definitely constitutes "hate" content in my mind; but that whole warriors of innocence crap is a tremendous eye sore that rants about violence, rape and other criminal things. Both deserve to be blasted off the face of the planet (the blogs, not the people. Eventually, I have a feeling the people will get themselves shot on their own just fine). - Bladespark42, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Admittedly a good point. And I do think livejournal has a lot to answer for here.
Nevertheless, you haven't addressed my main point above, that being that WFI has themselves claimed responsibility for causing these deletions, even though at the same time they are blaming lj for any deletions that weren't of actual sexual predators, of course. But they can't have it both ways. Either they're responsible, or they're not. LJ isn't going through and arbitrarily deleting everybody with certain keywords. You can test this yourself by doing a keyword search for pedophilia, loli, shota, or any of the other "suspect" terms. There are lots of journals still there listing these. So lj has been deleting things reported specifically to them by somebody. And since WFI claims to be that somebody, well... - mlfoley, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7***** neo-cons and ***** LJ for listening to them.
- fsjonsey, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10If you really want to see some creepy *****, check out SecondLife. All I can say is wow.
- PopcornDave, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Everyone seems to be missing the bigger picture here. We're now living in a society where one or two people with a stick up their ass are trying to dictate what we can say, see and hear. It has to stop.
The only way to fight these people is to use their own tactics against them. Boycott businesses that capitulate to this kind of behavior. Once businesses see money stopping from the masses, they're going to be more reluctant to listen to the crazy vocal few. - cyanidefish, on 10/11/2007, -5/+11I'm not happy with any of this. Yes, journals of actual pedophiles---and particularly communities of pedophiles--had no business being there. But fanfic sites? Particularly fanfic sites that weren't entirely devoted to objectionable material, but merely allowed it? That seems like a little bit of overkill to me.
- Kerakera, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7I've seen that post, but (unless I'm keep missing it -- which is possible -- or it's not being pointed out very clearly) what survivor communities exactly were deleted?
- kd1s, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8I say we do the same thing to her on Blogger that she did to people on LJ. Lets call her on her bigotry, homophobia, etc.
- Icelightning, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I'm guessing that people are freaking out, saving their interests and bios to their hard drives before they wipe them to protect themselves, mass-locking entries, seeing if any of their friends were deleted, and all other sorts of things that are raping LJ's servers.
... Which is kinda ironic, actually. - PopcornDave, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5@radu79
After reading their piece, it seemed to be more of a dummies guide to picking up kids online than anything else. So basically they're outlining what they're trying to stop. Real brilliant, - Bladespark42, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7http://community.livejournal.com/innocence_jihad/14245.html
Solid proof that WFI is scuzzy. And THEY themselves do claim credit for having shut down pedo journals. So they did something! - modad, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5@ justinsb
LiveJournal may suck, but that's still no excuse to allow blatant censorship against it to occur.
For many, LJ provides a sense of community, aid, reassurance and accessibility that cannot otherwise be found, especially to those needing to discuss "taboo" subjects such as incest, rape and other types of victimization that they've survived.
Denying this type of outlet for these people, no matter how "creepy" it may seem to others, cannot be permitted. Not only would it be a violation of Constitutional rights, but it would also be a real *****-ish thing to do. - Icelightning, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I can understand banning SOME of the users, like the ones who wanted to really hurt children. But the writers? The people discussing Lolita? The community for SURVIVORS of childhood rape and molestation? No. Just, no.
- alexforcefive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Hang on a sec... why is livejournal not loading? Did we... did we wang the LJ servers? surely that's not possible?
- Leomarth, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5"Special Interest" strikes again. I swear most people hate real freedom because it interferes with how they'd like to see the world run.
- Bladespark42, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Those are some really well-written discussions of all this. Thanks for the link!
- goat2, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5snap, a free ringtone!
- Bladespark42, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Oh, also see here: http://community.livejournal.com/innocence_jihad/23599.html
LJ has CHANGED their policies, and very recently too. - alizard, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Got content you care about on LJ with no copies on your HD?
Start saving pages and images. Between LJ deleting sites apparently whenever its internal ***** goes off and the possibility that if the departing user numbers hit critical mass, LJ itself gets deleted, you can't consider it "secure storage". So if you've got irreplaceable content there, get out of here and start saving your content.
This post will be around whenever you get the job done. If you don't get your content saved, your site may not be around when you get around to it. - Leomarth, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Evidently you are not aware of unintended consequences. It's your attempt to push what you don't like out of public view that has caused this. It's people like you who hate real freedom. It scares you because you can't control it.
- Novion76, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Warriors of innocence, or ignorance?
- Photar, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3My account livejournalsux hasn't been banned in 6 years. I'm more scared about it now though.
- radu79, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Yeah, I was thinking of that too.
I mean, wtf, is there a 'predators' University or something? How come they all have such a coherent behavior, acting in the same way? - SwissCamel, on 10/11/2007, -7/+9Looks like I wont be finding out about hundreds of peoples trips to the mall or comedic insights practically identical to something that was on t.v last night.
- advaitaw, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2The LJ Admin crew has apologized for the way in which the entire ordeal was carried out.
* no prior notification was given before the journals were deleted.
* some journals were deleted before even reviewing what the actual content was.
However, they now say that the journals were suspended and that they will be reinstating the ones which aren't "harmful" in the next couple of days.
http://news.livejournal.com/99159.html
IMO, cleaning out the journals which were related to carrying out pedophile acts was good. They should have done it in a much more efficient way and left fandom out of it. - tobsterius, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Humbert Humbert would not be happy if he found out LiveJournal refuses to allow people to analyze his memoirs.
