- OmegaWolf, on 10/11/2007, -16/+67How sad that LJ caved in to political pressure from what's obviously a right wing organization. I thought conservatism and right wing politics were anathema in current society. Why are these people getting their way? They are bigotted and are anti-anime, manga and fanfiction as well. I believe this whole thing about routing out pedophiles is really just an excuse to go after anime fans and fanfiction writers. These Warriors for Innocence obviously have way too much free time on their hands and just feel the need to crusade against something with which they disagree. Children, are as usual, just convenient political pawns to be used since they are not enfranchised.

This just in from Kanye: "George Bush hates Pokemon!"
- gingerbreadcat, on 10/11/2007, -1/+36It's important to note that this is not a legitimate group at all. It's apparently just a couple of crazy people with a vigilante streak.
Also, DO NOT go to their website! I picked up Smitfraud-C for my curiosity. :( - leontes, on 10/11/2007, -3/+35Not for much longer.
- kanago, on 10/11/2007, -4/+31BSDM Groups removed?
ZOMG!
Kinky FreeBSD Action..
(Spellcheck your descriptions please) - rabidgoldfish, on 10/11/2007, -8/+28I can't tell if you're joking or not.
- Baconn, on 10/11/2007, -4/+24Who gave a lawyer admin privs? I can't see anyone else doing something so stupid.
- Klowner, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18Unless you end up being the first person to find out your registrar is just as stupid as livejournal admins and chops your blog off at the roots.
- Leomarth, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18"Special Interest" strikes again. People hate freedom because it interferes with how they want to run the world.
- Novion76, on 10/11/2007, -3/+20Warriors for innocence, or ignorance?
- yurishoujo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15This frightens me just because it shows just how easy people cave to pressures. I honestly do wonder however about what made LJ buckle to these creeps, they've fought a lot in the past. Is it in fact illegal for their servers to contain this content, even when they're not condoning it? Some of it is just them overreacting.
Smells like blackmail to me. - rockdawg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14I'm just gonna quote the author of the article "I'm beyond pissed, especially since a bunch of these communities are doing nothing wrong, while some communities (like ones that promote anorexia and suicide!) remain undeleted and open."
- alternateheaven, on 10/11/2007, -7/+20people still use LJ?
- kindrobot, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13"I have yet to discover an actual Gay, Lesbian, Bi or Trans identified LJ community or user which has been deleted. Accuracy, anyone?"
Are you serious? You could not discover any DELETED users? It's usually so easy to find DELETED users. Isn't there a special DELETED USERS search engine? - Leomarth, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11Nobody wants to appear sympathetic to pedophiles. So even if you have to do the wrong thing to avoid that appearence, most people will.
- Scout360, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11This is deplorable, writing and blogging can be such a cathartic thing, to think LiveJournal has drawn a line in the sand against free speech of this nature (survival groups trying to find peace with their past), really makes me not want to have a LiveJournal or a Vox blog (also owned by Six Apart).
- Myonosken, on 10/11/2007, -9/+19No it isn't. They were trying to remove ***** porn ad journals- they just did it [EXTREMELY] badly. Not everything is ***** censorship.
- omnithought, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11Even though I think slashers and furries are pure unadulterated evil, I find them basically harmless and would stand up for them in order to maintain an internet that isn't "sanitized" through paranoia and fearmongering. It's truly sad that LJ would be so quick to cave in like that.
- rnwen2750, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Does anyone know if the mass purge has ended?
- unloud, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10Now I don't.
- halleyscomet, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9The headline misses the REAL meat of the story. This isn't about some Harry Potter / Draco slash fic being deleted.
http://digg.com/tech_news/LiveJournal_deletes_hundreds_of_illegal_rape_survivor_LGBTQ_communities
"LiveJournal deleted all journals containing "illegal" key-words in the journal or community interests. Rape-survivor and incest-survivor groups, BSDM groups, and Lolita (the book) literary groups disappeared, along with hundreds of personal journals. Users are (predictably) outraged."
LiveJournal decided to delete groups for survivors of sexual abuse to "Protect the Children."
Something tells me I won't be renewing my paid LJ membership.
Anyone else remember when AOL, at the height of their popularity, banned searches that contained the word "Breast" only to effectively shut down all Breast Cancer related AOL groups in the process? - swoopdog, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9My livejournal was deleted and I have no idea why I kept it for over 4 years and when asked why they never responded.
Good job Live Journal your site is a joke anyways. Wordpress + your own domain = FTW!
their users are a buncha emo kids who never learned about myspace - dizzledaking, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9@stealthgear (#6948573)
Hopefully the LJ saga is easier to follow than the game... - MWeather, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8"No it isn't. They were trying to remove ***** porn ad journals- they just did it [EXTREMELY] badly. Not everything is ***** censorship."
How is removing porn journals NOT censorship? - Narcowski, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Sexuality is not a choice, and you don't even address the deletion of rape survivor groups. If people want to discuss their problems (or anything else), they have a right to the anonymity the internet provides.
- judsond, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7LJ used to not be owned by sixapart either.
- yuutomo, on 10/11/2007, -4/+10I'll do one better, they are idiots, genetic mistakes, and I'll be glad to kick any of WFI's asses, any day of the week, there are bigger things to worry about and fight for than what words someone uses in their profile. I think WFI needs to be reclassified as a Hate Group, like the KKK, and other such organizations. I say that because they did not try talkign to the individual journal owners, and instead did this, I hope someone totally deletes and destroys their website and all data they have.
- rnwen2750, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Just in case anyone does not know (I had to ask the first time I heard it too) - LGBTQ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning. It also has an A on the end, standing for ally.
- IRoaChI, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9I feel this is more about the right wing agenda to conform to the NWO way of things.
If big brother says, sudo what big bother says
/rant over - itanshi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5hey LJ responded http://news.livejournal.com/99159.html
- nikkesen, on 10/11/2007, -5/+10They say they're NOT targetting fanfiction writers. I call BS because this has been going on since April and these people can't tell the difference between fanfiction and real life pedos and incest.
- weiran, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5This is why you should backup everything you have online, and host it yourself if possible.
- microview2007, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Now 5 state Attorney Generals want the list of accounts so they can cross check with the sex offender registry for any parole violators.
- ourhomeplanet, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5This is a good reminder to back up your blog, or some of your favorite postings, in case something like this happens again; that they randomly or subjectively decide that a blog that violates a given TOS.
- Leomarth, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6I would disagree on two points. First off, it is LJ's property, and they can do whatever they want with it. That's freedom. It's also freedom that the predator and the victim get the same freedom of speech.
But, because it's private property, their freedom of speech is limited to whatever LJ wants to give them. I agree, it was a ***** thing to do, but they were within their rights.
I would say it was the bastards over at Warriors for Innocence that were at fault. They were the ones wanting to stick their nose into LJ pages and make their own choice on what was bad material, and what wasn't. They made that choice seemingly independent of the actual content. - Narcowski, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4@rnwen2750 The A can also stand for asexual.
- gadgetlust, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6LGTBTQ --- Link goes to barbecue? What?
- rnwen2750, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I have seen it on literature dating back to 2004, but it may be an even older addition. And who do you mean by "they"?
- Demigawd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Personally I don't use any of the online journals or blogs but I am going to throw my two cents in anyway. I think that stopping child predators is a good idea but some one needs to be held accountable for the actions of these websites also. Going through and deleting all accounts that they claim encourage or maybe child predators I would think could be considered a public accusation of illegal activity with no proof, since all the evidence has just been deleted. Couldn't this be considered a libelous or slanderous act? I'm sure that they did get a couple real threats in there but they also targeted people that did nothing wrong and grouped them in with a bunch of degenerates.
Now for my second problem easiest way to stop child predators online, don't let your children run free on the internet. If you were to take your kids and drop them off in the middle of lets say New York city and something happened to them I am pretty sure that Child Protective Services would be questioning your parenting skills. Children have no business roaming free in the internet any more than they do to be wandering a major metropolitan area by them selves. It would be allot easier to be accountable for your children and know what they are doing and who they are talking to online than it would be to try and locate all the sick people who are looking for children online. - SeanEtCetera, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I had gone to the LJ news post through the article, but thanks for the link. A favorite part from the LJ press release by Barak Berkowitz was this:
"Isn't this all just a panicked reaction to WFI?
Not really. WFI or anyone else may complain but we are responsible for applying our policies to those complaints. . Even idiots can be right about some things. We try not to judge the complaint by the source but rather judge them by our policies. I believe the problem here was not the complaints or the policies but our very poor execution."
That can be taken as him calling the WFI idiots, which is an odd statement to make. - idonthack, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Ah, never mind. Goddamn typos. I blame gadgetlust for the extra T.
- rnwen2750, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2You might be, but I was not saying that. I asked because the answer will undoubtably be different if you meant an all-encompasing "they" or if you meant a specific LGBTQA group, etc.
- MWeather, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I never understood why people look for kids online. Surely they have a playground nearby.
- rnwen2750, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It now appears that some of the previously deleted communities and accounts are being slowly reopened.
- knulpm, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3"And who do you mean by 'they' "
They in the rhetorical "whoever" "no one in particular" sense. Oh wait no, I'm a right wing psycho who believes there's a vast homosexual conspiracy. I forget. - khyberkitsune, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2@jimmiss
Yup, yer outta the loop for sure. - Kypt, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Hrmmm maybe they think that if they delete those the emo kids will truly commit suicide because they took the only life they ever had? I mean who'd want to be responsible for that? lol
(Noted that I was generalizing and not everyone that's contemplating suicide is a spoiled emo kid) -
