- asev0, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14This is kind of scary. I've been hoping that LJ would fix this mess, apologize like last time and things would go back to some semblance of normal.
But this? This is troubling. - lordwow, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7LJDrama!
- thevelvetsun, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Brad is pretty smart to leave.
- bairy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I remember when LJ were bought out. Brad insisted the policies wouldn't change. Nothing would be different, they'd just have a more powerful team and more resources to work with.
That went to plan then. - aliguana, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4worse thing that ever happened to it, selling it to 6A. What have LJ users gotten out of the deal? Themes stolen from Vox, and censorship. Meanwhile, the uber-talented LJcore programmers are sitting around twiddling their thumbs and wasting their talents. Go back to basics!
- Nightfall, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Well, now I am glad that I am blogging now using wordpress from my own hosted site. The support and plugins for this blogging software is so much better than Livejournal its unbelievable. Don't get me wrong, Livejournal was great at the time. I supported the site with a paid account for a few years. However, as time went on, I just realized just how limited that site was in comparison to the other blogging platforms I had available to me for free on my webhost.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3FTA: "...and after weighing offers from Google and Facebook, has chosen to head to Google, a source close to Fitzpatrick says."
Yeah, we got that, thanks. - ipodwheels, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4"In the short term, I'm going to see what's possible here, but this boredom can't go on much longer before I snap. I need to be in a team of excited, fast-moving people stressing the ***** out (in a fun way) on challenging and important problems. I miss that." -- Brad
If the creator thinks it is boring, that pretty much says something on where LJ will go. Soon, we will all go, "This is getting boring!."
I wonder where Brad is going though. I think this is something to watch out for:
"I have some new stuff I want to do and am getting really excited about, but it'd be too boring/slow for me to do entirely myself, so the current question is if I try to get resources inside SixApart to do it, or go elsewhere and do it. Or do something else entirely." --Brad
, - CiXeL, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2anything that can be imported to another site?
- Misanthrope, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Am I the only one that thinks "Six Apart" is the dumbest name for a company ever? I know why that's the name...and that just makes it even more retarded.
- CiXeL, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2cant do that. im entrenched. years of my life are documented on my journal.
- llamagorama, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Brad made LJ the great thing that it was and then it expanded and he adjusted and sold it and now wants to do something new. It's understandable. And with the latest kerfuffle on LJ, he's probably sick of fanbrats coming to whine at his door.
Frankly, everyone's saything that this is the final straw of LJ going downhill, but I don't think so. When I first joined, LJ was mostly personal blogs and various communities on knitting and things, and then the fandom section in it's own room. SA will piss of the fanbrats, they'll leave, LJ will go back to being mostly just people sharing their lives with each other, and then SA will either sell it off again and it'll become another fandom haven, or fandom will just make their own blogosphere and be done with it.
Either way, I'm going to sit comfortable and ride this out. - CiXeL, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1its great if youre into writing about things and taking pictures. few other blogging sites will suffice for the variety of ways you can post as well. my pda, my phone, voice posts, camera phone posts, etc.
- bimtott, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1...I just wanted to feel special.
- kairii, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Ah, vain hope. Six Apart threw all but the most incorrigible optimists' hopes into the compost pile a long, long time ago.
- Hillsfar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I've been on LiveJournal for over six years. (over 2,000 entries, close to 60,000 comments given, close to 30,000 comments received). I've even met Brad (4 years ago). It's a sad day.
- Sartori, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You can export your journal in various formats.
- Optimaximal, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The thing is, the meaning made you think about the company a little longer than you would have if it was 'Blogsphere Holdings Ltd', therefore, it has served its purpose!
- SavageBlackCat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Not exactly a shocking revelation.
- TheFacelessEvil, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3Ha ha. They're getting what they deserve. Maybe someone way more intelligent then SixApart can buy it from them and fix it.
- soletanf, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3Agreed, asev0. LJ as we know it looks to be over, and the controversies of late may be a sign of things to come. Brad leaving is definitely the last straw. I will have to seriously consider other journaling sites, whether or not I actually want to leave. With LJ changing, there's not going to be much left of what I love anyway.
- WikiEasy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Ah crap! Just when I am starting out with Perlbal and MogileFS, he quits! I need help man! LOL
- zarex, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2He already posted his side of his story - where else, but his livejournal.
http://brad.livejournal.com/2334177.html - bmabbott, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Huzzah!
- aniraangel, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3I've already left LJ, but that Brad feels like leaving doesn't make me wasn't to go back. Ever. 6A is hopeless as it is. This is, as they say, the straw that broke the camels back.
- kairii, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0This is very symbolic. I think he's smart to run. I wonder if he feels how crap LJ has become lately. Whee.
- bimtott, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Neat! I went to high school with him! Go Warriors!!!
- BobTurtle, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0I dub thee "King of pointless comments".
- BobTurtle, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0You are so cool because you are on the cutting edge of everything news worthy on the internet!
- RaeZeep, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1Come back Brad! LiveJournal was once a unique, fun and creative place. Then Six Apart took over. Now Brad leaves.
I wonder if he will set up a similar site along the old lines of LJ wherever he goes? Think about it, Brad! - swoopdog, on 10/10/2007, -8/+1Live Journal is garbage
Wordpress FTW! - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -8/+1rumors are that he's going to google
- redwallhp, on 10/10/2007, -9/+1I say kill-off LiveJournal entirely, and rebuild Movable Type from the ground up. Six Apart's stuff is rubbish, and they're not keeping up with the times.
While you're at it, get rid of LiveJournal, MySpace, Facebook, Wordpress.com, and the whole lot of rubbish sites. MySpace/Facebook are idiotic, and LiveJournal/Wordpress.com are pathetic excuses for blogging services.
If you want a blog, download Wordpress and find a web host!
