- kevinrose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That is Jeremiah in the PDF, but Jeremiah's role is incorrect. I'll work on getting a 'about us' page up in digg 2.0 that explains all. Great article!
- cquinnd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I still use Slashdot just as much as Digg. Digg is better on finding deals, /. is better (or worse) on followup comments due to sheer volume . Digg is even worse on dupes than slashdot. And on the number of people
who seem to use it as a means to promote thier own sites, no matter how
deserving they might be. - elusive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It should be against the rules to post entries from your own blog on digg. That's pretty lame (not your actual blog post, but that you decicded to post it here).
Digg sounds good in principle but there is a rather large fraction of articles that are posted that aren't really newsworthy. - mitnick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Kevin worked for the department of energy and that is how he knows Jeremiah Udy
- sammykrupa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So, it is his PDF!
- mushroom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this really don't tell me anything i didn't already know about digg
- smiles23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Digg is the best geek news around. Thanks to all who created this fine service. :)
- MrDelmo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I use digg more because of the simplicity. Slashdot is so cluttered.
- zonemen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Did you know that digg.com has around back in January 1998? http://toolbar.netcraft.com/site_report?url=www.digg.com
- jared9985, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0interesting, I thought Kevin rose was the creator of digg :o
- loginname, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0zonemen: It sure did look different back then ;)
http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://digg.com - JhAgA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I used to read /. three times/day. After some time, I got upset about the huge amount of infantile "Linux is god, Windows is evil" stories they post.
I suppose geeks (or nerds, as they self-proclaim) should be more "world-aware", in the sense that there are lots of other things going on out there that would be very nice to be discussed in a "geek" audience.
Anyway, I finally decided to go look for something else and found kuro5hin.org, which unfortunately seems to be a great community, but is dying because of lack of responsible administration.
Fark.com was a great addition to my bookmarks, but only for laughs.
Finally I found digg.com and in a couple of minutes I was already a member (I rarely subscribe to any website, I prefer to just "bugmenot.com" it).
Since them, I have spread the word about this site to all of my friends, I can't remember any of them that haven't stick with digg. This is a great site and it is very nice to see it growing at this rate. - rawr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it looks 2000x hotter than /. too
- NetNinja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like /. better but digg is nice for the quantity.
- xaphann, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well i don't think that Digg could kill /. but it could really hurt it. The same thing could be said years ago about google vs yahoo. today both around and both are doing good. As for the problems with digg, show me some software or website after a couple months being perfect.
- billybob476, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Digg needs a history? This place has only been in existence for a few months. It's like a newborn writing a book...actually, that'd be pretty cool.
- peerk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I never could get into slashdot. The site seems so cluttered/confusing. Maybe I'm just not geeky enough.
- truax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Digg isn't on Wikipedia anymore, has been deleted since yesterday...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digg - atanguay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Another thing that's great about Digg is it's cleaner and easier to read than Slashdot. I hope the new design doesn't comprimise this...Digg is wonderfully simple.
- mikeroq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0!!! digg does not suck, i get all my tech news here
- thenargonne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Digg is good too. I like the differences between ./ and digg. Often I think /. has too many Linux zealots. Don't get that here very much. I read both because I like them both.
- rookieone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0digg is diggin!!!
- dhughes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 I like the minimalist, straight forward design of digg. A PDA friendly version would be great too when I sneak a look at digg while at work, using my Treo.
- whittaker2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0don't be idiots, why would kevinrose use his google adsense id if it was jeremiah udy's page. Maybe it is because Kevin owns it and when digg was new he wanted to make it seem like someone elses project so he had Jeremiah Udy register the domain. That way he could promote it on his blog and TechTV and not look like a big bragger and fag, even though he was just self promoting
- fakestname, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0digg still sucks dick
- fakestname, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Digg sucks all you suck
