There's this little thing called the Do not call list, which poses very hefty fines for violations ($10k per call), and if they really track IP addresses, they'll be hunting down the prank callers and sue you for the bill

(Note, because the company is doing this at your request, they aren't responsible). More, if you're stupid enough to call a cell phone.
There's a reason they keep a log of iP addresses. - pwherry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The behavior of the caller ID component is the interesting part of this demo; there's some information leakage here. Where I live (Verizon territory), the display number is passed along but the display *name* comes from a database lookup. I tried calling myself using a couple of known-to-be-unlisted numbers as the "display number" and got correct name info for all of them. This also worked when I sent calls to my Vonage number.
