- fl00d, on 09/05/2008, -103/+602The new design is fine. Make with the change already.
- wastern, on 09/06/2008, -12/+293Indeed. The new design takes all the bull ***** and throws it in a tab I never need to look at. I don't want to scroll through 2 dozen apps about zombies and bumper stickers to get to the wall or photos.
Its much more efficient this way. Facebook was starting to look like myspace with all the apps, the new design stops that.
Most people don't like change because they are lazy and don't want to learn a new place to click. Take 5 minutes and look around, its not that complex of a site from a navigation standpoint. Its the same reason why a lot of people don't want to upgrade to a new OS at most workplaces, non-IT people can't handle change in technology. It has to be forced sooner or later, might as well get it over with - tonicboy, on 09/06/2008, -13/+243Right. Because if it was just College students, the retardation would completely disappear. I mean, we all know that the college users never forward apps to their friends and are the most mature group of people on Facebook.
- inactive, on 09/05/2008, -69/+176.edu > Public
Facebook has turned into Myspace. College students, like myself, want a place where we don't have the retardation (Zombieapps) and frequent scrutiny that goes along with a completely "public" networking site.
Facebook should launch another site ONLY for colleges and universities again. - Anteros, on 09/06/2008, -1/+96What difference does facebook being open to the public make? You still choose who goes on your friends list, it's your friends sending the zombie invitations.
- jcaino, on 09/06/2008, -1/+86Its been said a million times, and I'll say it again - you know you CAN block applications, right?
- smartsalman, on 09/06/2008, -18/+102and i HATE the wall being included as part of the "mini feed"... so stupid..
- insanebrain, on 09/06/2008, -30/+112What's facebook?
- lemur, on 09/06/2008, -1/+65Well that's the thing... the majority of people aren't happy unless they can make their pages look like crap because somehow that expresses their personality. Facebook is only doing the responsible thing and trying to make people look less stupid than Myspace does.
- DinosaurDerek, on 09/05/2008, -35/+89NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
- Haoie, on 09/06/2008, -10/+61People are just against change. The old design was fine, personally.
- svivian, on 09/05/2008, -15/+65I like the new design. Apart from the "apps" tab, everything looks really clean and organised. Apps is like the myspace tab.
- ChrisGray, on 09/06/2008, -3/+46The redesign is all about generating more ad views. Every f--ing thing you do makes the page reload, so that it will show a new advertisement. That is what this is about. It's not about improving the user experience.
- VirgilNilson, on 09/06/2008, -13/+56Really it should just be for Harvard, Yale, Princeton and MIT students to keep out the filth.
- sexysaxplayer, on 09/05/2008, -5/+45I have to admit, I really like the new design and am finding that it eliminates a lot of that Zombieapp clutter. BUT I'm really surprised that they'd go so far as to force it on users that have already opted out. I think it's a bad move.
- GalacticRerun, on 09/06/2008, -3/+40The new one just doesn't seem to have its parts contained. It feels like it's spilling out. I don't like the wall being included with everything else. But I love the fact that everyone's apps are in a tab that I'll never need to look at. I'm so torn!
- interad, on 09/05/2008, -4/+39this is going to drive the more clueless FB users insane when they make the switch
- inactive, on 09/05/2008, -26/+59self-destructing in 5.. 4.. 3.. 2..
- inactive, on 09/06/2008, -2/+34why do people always harp on about facebook before it went public? how the hell are they supposed to make any money from just students?
- Memnochxx, on 09/06/2008, -3/+34I WAS ON FACEBOOK WHEN IT WAS STILL UNDERGROUND
- drewbe121212, on 09/06/2008, -1/+29Wait? A slow down in annoying applications! Thank god!!
- xister, on 09/06/2008, -0/+24No offense developer guys and app lovers, but I go on Facebook to communicate with friends, not "own" someone, or send them some stupid ass "item of the week". I have very few frivolous apps and intend to keep it that way. When it comes down to it, there are *very few* useful apps and they sure as hell don't replace good old fashioned typing out a message to someone.
Having said that, I wish that the first thing you would see when you go to someone's page (in the new setup) would be their info instead of their newsfeed. I think that would be a better intro to a person you might have just befriended. - Jimbozu, on 09/05/2008, -9/+33I like everything about the new design except for the solid white background. It just doesn't look like Facebook anymore without that blue stripe in the middle of my screen.
- exformation, on 09/06/2008, -9/+30the minifeed is the worst feature ever. why they would integrate it into the wall is beyond me.
/registered for facebook back when you needed a .edu email address - tonicboy, on 09/06/2008, -3/+24*phew* it's a good thing the countdown stopped. must have been a dud bomb.
in other news, i missed anything in the article indicating "Despite statistics indicating that many users who migrate over to the new Facebook design are reverting back to the old". the Compete stats show that 65% of users are using the new layout, which is a huge majority.
http://blog.compete.com/2008/09/03/facebook-new-ol ... - MistyEstelle, on 09/06/2008, -3/+24In my opinion the new design looks like crap. More ads, too much white space in weird places, and its weird to navigate. I looked forward to a change and gave it a good honest try, but something about it still irks me. Oh well, I don't use fb all that much anyway, I'll just be using it even less than before now.
- afidler, on 09/06/2008, -1/+20I WENT TO COLLEGE
- notpmoc, on 09/06/2008, -9/+26But I thought all you people liked changed?- (and hope)
- MScrip, on 09/06/2008, -0/+18I agree it's different... but on the old Facebook, people's mini-feed was always at the top of their profile, but their Wall was usually buried deep down at the bottom of their profile, past all the zombie apps and other stupid apps.
Everything I need to communicate with friends is now at the top... you can send a message, read their feed or write on the their wall, and view photos without having to see all of the "other" junk.
Facebook went to ***** when the app clutter came... and this fixes it. - inactive, on 09/06/2008, -0/+16Is there a way to watch them?
- opticwind, on 09/06/2008, -0/+16 You know what? Just get rid of Apps and I'm always happy. I know we had a few goodies but the rotten apples spoiled the bunch.
- frogsoblivious, on 09/06/2008, -0/+14dosent work with win98....or dos
- linkerm, on 09/06/2008, -1/+14It's ok -- took a little getting used to, but I like the tab design.
- inactive, on 09/06/2008, -0/+14it's not a completely public app. you have to be a member of someone's network or their friend in order to view their page.
- johnleemk, on 09/06/2008, -3/+16I originally had a look at the new design and went back to the old. Then a couple of weeks back I figured they'd migrate to the new Facebook eventually anyway, so I forced myself to use the new design. It's actually not bad once you get used to it, although I don't have any problems with the old design.
I have to say, though, not being bombarded with a billion apps when you try to load someone's profile is definitely a good thing. - royalwcheese, on 09/06/2008, -0/+12Another plus?
- scheming, on 09/06/2008, -2/+14ads? it's called ad block plus (for firefox) https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/186 ... or safari adblock http://safariadblock.sourceforge.net/
- inactive, on 09/06/2008, -1/+12Just another self-loathing narcissistic abyss for the a.d.d generation to waste their lives away-- which includes my sorry ass btw.
- Protoss, on 09/06/2008, -1/+12Too cool eh?
- TaylorHelferty, on 09/06/2008, -3/+13I didn't like the design at first, but it grew on me. Most people reverted back after the first day, but like with anything new, try it out for a bit longer and you may start to like it. I enjoy it more than the old one now, I find it much more efficient. Cleaner too.
- opticwind, on 09/06/2008, -0/+10"like myspace"
That's why. - captlen, on 09/06/2008, -2/+12But on other sites you have to click a lot more times than on the new facebook. It is also a lot better to have less of the clutter, as I was getting fed up with the zombies and vampires etc!
- drewbe121212, on 09/06/2008, -0/+10Exactly. I am happy they released it to the public. I have many friends to whom I left behind when I went and graduated college. I still use face book to keep in touch with them from time to time. Or, at the very least can figure out what their phone number is for a quick call.
- royalwcheese, on 09/06/2008, -0/+9I love the new feed, and the ability to comment on status. Less emphasis on the pirate versus ninja app is always a good thing.
- cdneng2, on 09/06/2008, -10/+19The new design gives more space for Ads. It forces you to hit tabs to see 4-5 different ads in the "ad space". What's to like about it?
- Aeronaught, on 09/06/2008, -0/+9Or maybe it's like going from chocolate chip cookies to oatmeal raisin--some people are inevitably going to like one more than the other, but given enough time no one will give a *****, since cookies are cookies.
- masti1234, on 09/06/2008, -0/+9Look, I agree grouping the apps and stuff is a good move alright... but there are still some pretty strange facts about the new facebook as compared to the old one:
1) What did you do to my wall? The wall and the mini-feed should always be seperate.
2)If I am correct I can see the status update of only the last person who updated their status and not the last 3 as in the older facebook.
3)The new facebook is slightly sluggish as compared to the older one because it uses flash(?) which makes it a bit heavy.
also, the settings and privacy are a bit weird and will not take little but a lot of time to used to...
but kudos to many positive changes as well just that the above corrections (if i may say so) need to be made. - xister, on 09/06/2008, -3/+11(cough)adblock(cough)
And besides that, the ads on Facebook are a lot less obtrusive than any other site I visit. - xister, on 09/06/2008, -1/+9Hopefully they'll get fed up and quit using Facebook.
- AlienMushroom, on 09/06/2008, -7/+15Facebook's gonna be worthless in 1 year. Stop and watch :-).
