Life in London Captured Digitally (must see video) watch!
news.bbc.co.uk — The Memory Project: Reminiscent of a Victorian Cyclorama, is recording a 360-degree panorama each minute over three days. Members of the public can control the circular, time-slip viewing gallery, which will display about 47,000 photos.

- tenaciouslee, on 04/19/2008, -18/+37The whole heat-mapping go-back-in-time thing seems rather silly.
- DubiousDrewski, on 04/19/2008, -1/+10No it doesn't.... I can't think of a more interesting way to do it. Would you rather they install a mouse and a playbar on the bottom of each movie so they can scrub the footage? That would be more efficient sure, but boring.
- Incomp3tnt, on 04/20/2008, -4/+1The whole thing sounds silly to me. I mean, what's the point? "Look! Look! I can make the pictures show night time AND daytime, night time AND daytime! All by moving backwards and forwards." The technology is really cool, but it seems like he could be doing something more useful with his time/knowledge.
- umbra, on 04/20/2008, -0/+2still intrigued.
- gnews, on 04/19/2008, -4/+3Hiro Nakamura would not agree ...
- PBMainiac3, on 04/19/2008, -8/+1when they go through it fast speed i feel like im tripping balls, man.
- jbenson2, on 04/19/2008, -16/+7Lame
- ApolloXLII, on 04/19/2008, -3/+6give me some drugs and this would keep me fascinated for hours.
- cl2yp71c, on 04/19/2008, -3/+11Whoever sponsored this, needed a huge tax break.
- ligyron, on 04/19/2008, -4/+42Cool idea, but it flickers a lot and there's lots of artifacts. Maybe there should be an algorithm applied to the output so that it's more stable and smooth art rather than what looks like a faulty video card and seizure-causing?
- AWBoy666, on 04/19/2008, -0/+7I can't decide how much of that is related to the camera taking video of the LCD panels or if they actually look that bad in person. If they do, then they have a lot of work left.
- Cimlite, on 04/19/2008, -5/+5It's probably also due to the whole heat-mapping "interface". What a horrible idea.
No... what this thing needs is one large panoramic screen all around, with software that blends the images together smoothly into a panoramic image. Combined with 3D cameras and 3D glasses to give depth perception, like your looking out of a window. In the center of the cylinder there should be a control panel, which one person at a time would control. Finally they should store at least a years worth of footage.
Then I'd be interested... walking around in what looks like a completely dark and boring environment with a stupid interface that you can't really control well looking at regular LCD TVs sounds boooring.- Justice101, on 04/19/2008, -0/+3I like your idea, just keep the heat mapping. IMO that's the coolest part of the entire thing.
- lennybird, on 04/19/2008, -0/+7It reminds me of Minority Report in a way. I think it's very artistic, nothing more - but that's all it needs to be.
- stealth210, on 04/19/2008, -0/+3Exactly. It's just a cool and interesting piece of art work. It's not meant to be a control center for CSI.
- shervin123, on 04/19/2008, -12/+8Meh, Whats the point?
- DiscoLando, on 04/19/2008, -1/+6Who said anything about there being a point?
- WaveyRavey, on 04/19/2008, -3/+1No one, thats the point.
- DiscoLando, on 04/19/2008, -1/+6Who said anything about there being a point?
- scottnash, on 04/19/2008, -10/+39"Must See"? That's overstating it a bit
- gnews, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1OK, maybe I was got over excited at the time (3:00 am ish GMT) and I should give headlines more thought when I can't sleep...
Leave it to the comments to say "must see" next time ;)
- gnews, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1OK, maybe I was got over excited at the time (3:00 am ish GMT) and I should give headlines more thought when I can't sleep...
- akohut, on 04/19/2008, -6/+15Reminds me of "Minority Report" in a way.
- lennybird, on 04/19/2008, -0/+4You must be my long lost twin brother or something, read my comment under Ligyron's. Read your comment after I posted mine....

- wallyf, on 04/19/2008, -9/+2Not so sure about the MUST SEE VIDEO part
- W1LS0N, on 04/19/2008, -2/+12well i quite liked it.
- Spikito, on 04/19/2008, -6/+3Kinda sucks though if you want to be close to the screen, and see a present image.
- Steven8890, on 04/19/2008, -8/+8Really not that interesting.
- CrushThemTorg, on 04/19/2008, -1/+1Wait ... Britain's boring? Are you sure?
- zakatov, on 04/19/2008, -1/+20I don't get it... why do the cameras take pictures sequentially around the "tank"? Why not all at one?
- Intamin, on 04/20/2008, -1/+2That's just the tip of the iceberg, why are they doing this at all?
Seems quite lame, if I'm being honest... - Vo0Ds, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1Covers more time.
- Intamin, on 04/20/2008, -1/+2That's just the tip of the iceberg, why are they doing this at all?
- sirbeta, on 04/19/2008, -3/+19The truth revealed behind the creation of this: to spy on couples doing the do near the water
- xkrwlng, on 04/19/2008, -4/+48i thought all life in london was already being captured digitally, using those CCTV cameras...
- northernmunky, on 04/19/2008, -1/+2nah, most of them are analogue
- MoistVonLipwig, on 04/19/2008, -10/+2Overrated piece of artistic crap
- tabularassa, on 04/19/2008, -1/+5/has seizure
- MedHead, on 04/19/2008, -2/+3So apparently these folks have just learned about time-lapse photography, but not how to design an interface to view those photos.
- baconz, on 04/19/2008, -2/+4That was a really cool cyclorama. The thing I liked the most about the cyclorama was when you enter the cyclorama through the cyclorama door, you can see cyclorama pictures that were taken every cyclorama 10 cyclorama minutes from the cyclorama cyclorama cyclorama spam spam spammity spam...
- sammydeath, on 04/19/2008, -0/+2what was the thing the cameras are in called?
- eigenweasel, on 04/19/2008, -8/+5This epitomises modern London: glitzy, pointless and a huge waste of time and money.
- mdeppi01, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1Much worse than old London... with the disease and the crime and the free roaming mass-murderers.
- eigenweasel, on 04/20/2008, -1/+1It still has disease, crime and mass-murderers. And frankly I'd prefer pickpockets to gun-wielding black muggers and Jack the Ripper (score 6) to Muslim suicide bombers (score 52).
- mdeppi01, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1Much worse than old London... with the disease and the crime and the free roaming mass-murderers.
- znicket, on 04/19/2008, -3/+2I like the idea - but like somebody already said, the interface and transitions suck.
- mojonandha, on 04/19/2008, -8/+1waste of time, money and effort. Burried
- rory2267, on 04/19/2008, -0/+5philistine
- rory2267, on 04/19/2008, -1/+4i saw this in london the other day and wondered what it was
- toddkay, on 04/19/2008, -4/+1A more interesting location would definitely help it's cause.
- iamnobody8614, on 04/19/2008, -0/+2A more interesting location than on the bank of the River Thames, which is in one of the most iconic cities in the world? It is a very busy place with an excellent mix of natives and tourists. I'd say it's an excellent place for something like that.
- boogface, on 04/19/2008, -6/+1must see, eh?
- reclusiveraider, on 04/19/2008, -1/+1this will totally be used in a movie now.
- linksus, on 04/19/2008, -4/+1not really a MUST SEE is it.
- bentrinh, on 04/19/2008, -1/+5A moving cardboard box? Snake?
- mdeppi01, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1It's a freaking box! Do you know how complex your circulatory system is?!
- flarn2006, on 04/19/2008, -6/+1Would digg if it was in northern Virginia, or at least the United States.
- MMaster23, on 04/19/2008, -4/+0Wow .. that so totally usefull! [/sarcasm]
- Odindon, on 04/19/2008, -3/+1ugh I am aggravated I wasted my time checking it out, Definitely not "Must See" This is stupid and a huge waste of money.
- OriginalLucid1, on 04/19/2008, -3/+1Boring!
- 1uk34dd0, on 04/19/2008, -0/+2I loved it but then we are all different and into different things. If I was anywhere near London right now I'd be going to have a look in person.
- bwa236, on 04/19/2008, -2/+1I thought Americans had too much time on their hands...
- aethelberga, on 04/19/2008, -0/+2From the original description, I thought that it was perhaps a display of photographs of London taken from a particular point over a series of years. THAT would be interesting. Three days, not so much.
- unicornpaco, on 04/19/2008, -0/+1eh? what's the deal here?
it's not working at all. - thonnas, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1First digg in over a year! I love art!
- HastyNameChoice, on 04/20/2008, -0/+0when things like this start becoming live and mashed up with google earth et al, we're going to be a lot closer to a really immersive online experience instead of just the pile of 2d brochures that constitute most of the interwebs presently...
- cglisson, on 04/20/2008, -1/+1Not as "must see" as stated...
- Rentinu, on 04/20/2008, -1/+0Where are the knifes? Blasphemy, this isn't London at all.
- LoopyChew, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1Dugg for Solid Snake cameo at 2:11.
- Armorfist, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1If its a "MUST SEE", i will definably see it now...
- binorgog, on 08/07/2008, -1/+1I saw saw Amy winehouse blow coke OUT of her nose!!
- anonymiau, on 04/20/2008, -1/+0Kind of ironic that even when the British make art, it involves CCTV..
- yeps, on 04/29/2008, -0/+1Not that interesting.
- devanmc, on 05/09/2008, -0/+0great idea and very interesting, but i have to say very bad video/reporting work. video could have been much more professional
