- dsmx, on 08/16/2008, -1/+43Good idea in theory just executed in the wrong way.
- thegodfaughnder, on 08/17/2008, -6/+35Or.... I could get music for free... what's my motivation?
A conscience? Nope... don't have one - lukasmack, on 08/17/2008, -1/+23Couldn't agree with dsmx more.
"Customers will be allowed to use the BitTorrent sites and filesharing applications they are used to. Through Deep Packet Inspection, Playlouder will check what tracks you download, so they can pay the rights holder accordingly."
The end results sound good and all but who would willingly sign up knowing that your constantly going to have Deep Packet Inspection. Not a lot of the people who regularly use P2P that's who. - Bamboolemur, on 08/17/2008, -2/+17In other news, I hear Demonoid is still kicking ass as usual!
- aznhomig, on 08/17/2008, -1/+14So, where's the money for them coming from? Donations won't keep it afloat for long after the RIAA will STILL chase after sites like these because they're a bunch of cash grabbing whores.
- ACrazyGerman, on 08/17/2008, -2/+11Remember Qtrax? What a load of donkey dick *****. The program is based on songbird which is based on firefox. The only thing they have really right now that you can download is the beach boys but even then it a small window of hope. Every thing else just says that it will be available soon. It still says to download the beta when the official release was months ago. There has been almost zero updates posted on the website http://www.qtrax.com/. So I have little doubt that this service as well as Qtrax is just another load of donkey dick *****.
- D3koy, on 08/17/2008, -2/+11Actually, I traded my conscience for faster download times....Once I get fiber to my door I'll see about trading back...

- MavRevMatt, on 08/17/2008, -0/+5That's the real problem. The labels took too long to realise their mistake and now getting it for free is just so... widespread that they can't take it away.
- inactive, on 08/17/2008, -2/+7By more content, do you mean viruses?
- tavisjohn, on 08/17/2008, -2/+6And just how do they protect me from legal attacks from the RIAA//MPAA?
Does a subscription include legal representation? If so than they have something there!
A way to quickly loose money! - inactive, on 08/17/2008, -0/+4allofmp3 cost money and people used it, even though they knew the money wasn't even going to the musicians. If there were simply a program that could go through my playlist and give me a price to "legalize" it, I'd probably do it if the price were reasonable.
- Bamboolemur, on 08/17/2008, -0/+3SO why bother write anything at all?
- Travelsonic, on 08/17/2008, -0/+3Unless < / sarcam >, you are an idiot.
P2P = a technology
legality = usage. Can be both legal or illegally used. - dsmx, on 08/17/2008, -1/+4I'll expand on that why did they chose to exclude all the other people download from the p2p networks. Surely they'd get a more accurate distribution of who downloads what if they took into account what everyone downloads, they could then pay the artists a fairer percentage of money.
- anemptygun, on 08/17/2008, -0/+3I use grooveshark (which follows this idea) and I like it alot!
http://www.grooveshark.com/ - Pixelpaws, on 08/17/2008, -0/+2They pay the royalties that are due.
- TheJokerV, on 08/17/2008, -1/+3Maybe they offer copyright infringement insurance where if you get sued by the **AA they would just cover the settlement costs.
- benroy, on 08/17/2008, -1/+3This kind of reminds me of how some more recent DVD's come with a "Free Digital Copy". What's the point? The only reason you'd need a digital copy to watch on your computer is if you didn't have the movie...EXCEPT YOU JUST BOUGHT IT! These studio executives don't understand the problem OR the solution and in the end completely miss the point of why people watch movies on their computers to begin with.
- plastix, on 08/17/2008, -0/+2IThey already tried it- it's called napster. And it doesn't work. All p2p downloads are at the mercy to the seeds which means no download is ever guaranteed to finish.. Why would I pay for something that isn't guaranteed when I can just go to itunes and get exactly what I pay for?
- inactive, on 08/17/2008, -2/+4Everyone has a conscience...yours just needs to be brought to the foreground.
- Chaoticfist, on 08/17/2008, -0/+2I have no problem paying for things. For example i have listened to the audio tape of the series the Twilight. While i refuse to pay 200 bucks for the audio recording or wait in line at the local library i decided after listening to the book i would buy the books. So i paid about 80 bucks for 4 books. They are really good(more chick books but anyway close to the Harry Potter type of thing)
Also same thing with game and music. There is no way in hell i am paying 60 -80 for a game that i have no idea if its even going to work on my computer. Considering the music library i have if there was a legalize it button for say 10 cents a song or something i would defiantly pay. I wont pay 20-30 bucks for a cd that i have no idea id i am even going to like.
I would like to see a steam type system set up for all music and game and movies but not something like itunes where i get charged insane pries plus putting up with ***** drm. - mdoom, on 08/17/2008, -1/+3Check every friday night...
- bipolarruledout, on 08/17/2008, -0/+2No, they need to have their own infrastructure preferably with loss-less content and flexible terms. Anything available on physical media should be available for download at decent prices. The problem is they are about 10+ years too late and the genie isn't going in back in the bottle. Business models that don't adapt eventually die.
- mrbuerger, on 08/17/2008, -1/+2Hey you! You sing and you want to be f*cking rich? Give your music free and if peoples like it... They will go to see you in show live and will give you lot money.... Everyone can burn a CD, don't give your money to a company to do that!
- pwnsey, on 08/17/2008, -0/+1I use Ruckus and it is a great free service and I don't ever need to illegally download.
- MustacheFace, on 08/17/2008, -1/+2This business model might have worked right after Morpheus. The RIAA spent so much time crying and suing children that they neglected to adopt an alternative revenue strategy. It's a bit like worrying about the money in your wallet while someone robs your uninsured bank.
- Culyt, on 08/17/2008, -1/+2Well my conscience tells me that taking more power away from large corporations such as Universal,Sony, and the other RIAA friends and putting it back into the hands of the people is a good thing.
Music won't die, what might die is the manufactured artificial style of music which would be a good thing but even that probably isn't likely, people will still be able to perform in public, sell mech and get commissions (such as paypal donations, or advertisers) even if they can't sell CDs.
Instead people will be able to sell their music directly through websites and get close to %100 of the profit rather than a few cents per sale. Music will be heard because its GOOD and not just because a record label says its good and forces out all other competition so you have no comparison, effectively brainwashing people into believing its good since that's what all the stations are playing.
☢ - comptech89, on 08/17/2008, -0/+1Yes But most all of the Digital Copy's that come with DVDs use windows DRM so you cant put them on your iPod unless you go and break the DRM witch then makes it illegal again.
- AmplifiedMedia, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1The whole manufacture & distribution model has changed... for the better.
Has anyone ever read the book: "Music Like Water" by Gerd Leonard??
If not check it out... makes a very interesting read - AmplifiedMedia, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1very good point.
something i've been banging on about for years - bravo! - inactive, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1The problem is that even a moderately successful band will make more money under the present system than would be possible by running their own websites.
- inactive, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1Why pretend that CDs are $30???
- inactive, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1How true! The fact is the even when presented with reasonably priced legal alternatives people STILL choose to 'pirate' because its free.
I like emusic.com - its VERY cheap and only deals with Indie labels, meaning none of the corporate ***** that you get on the majors is on there. - inactive, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1Idiot.
- Risingashes, on 08/17/2008, -1/+1Ignoring your conscience in order to avoid working/ paying for something isn't exactly a new concept.
I'd assume you guys would still rescue a baby that was about to crawl on to the road. - inactive, on 08/17/2008, -1/+1If only they'd open registration. I've been checking every day straight for nearly a month and they haven't opened up registration =(
- inactive, on 08/17/2008, -0/+0Epic Fail.
- Her3t1k, on 08/17/2008, -0/+0It's a relevant use of a meme!
- Gus1, on 08/17/2008, -2/+1The fact that music can't be shared with other, non-Playlouder, users is surely something the ISP's have ensured is enforced. The ISP's have of course been influenced directly or indeirectly by bodies such as the BPI (here in Britain) and the infamous RIAA. These organisations ultimately answer to the record labels who are the very people who could benefit most from this new model. It seems Playlouder needs to work harder to get the record labels on board and do something more like maybe having their own trackers rather than using an existing infrastructure which is inherently anti-control.
- addicted68098, on 08/17/2008, -2/+1I think I am completely (partially) against music piracy at least piracy on the web...(don't digg me down, I think my points are valid)
I completly support pirating music like Kanye Wes but not Madvillian. Why? Piracy for the most part only supports and favors already distinguished artist. Before Napster there was an incredible piracy network setup without a single router. It is a bit before my times but I assume it was buy a few dimes get a free mix tape. Back then it was about finding talent rather than listening to the same bland music that gets radio play. P2P seems to reward artists for being popular not good. It seems like it's impossible to download an Amon Tobin album or even a Miles Davis album. - D3koy, on 08/17/2008, -4/+2Boy does that sound like a thinly veiled attempt for the RIAA to catch you...
- TheJokerV, on 08/17/2008, -3/+1This service would probably work on p2p file sharing networks better but those networks would probably still ban Playlouder customers.
- tuh2, on 08/17/2008, -4/+1The only time people get virus's from limewire, etc is because they are to stupid to be careful what they are downloading. If your looking for a song and its only 200kb and you download it then your just a ***** moron.
