Now it just funds a bunch of RIAA propaganda ("training materials") for local law enforcement, creates new federal posts ("piracy czar" is what people are calling it) to more aggressively enforce the law the way the RIAA wants it enforced, and has expanded seizure provisions so property suspected of involvement in filesharing can be more easily confiscated. Like, your computer/server/usb drive. Also, at least the Senate version had a "Sense of Congress" section that commits the congress to the idea that "intellectual property" enforcement is part of the War on Terror and generally a Really Big Deal. Fairly certain the final version retained that section.

Dear Mr. Bush-
I'm very disappointed that Congress has put the PRO-IP / Enforcement of Intellectual Property bill on the President's desk and I would ask that you please veto it. While many others will provide more astute reasons for doing so, I think it's worth mentioning that, we, the technologically elite, will ultimately decide your legacy. Not historians, not journalists- but the gurus of the technology industry who control the medium with which "history" will propagate.
You can appease the MPAA and the RIAA in the short term and support the industry that, without a doubt, will lose every tech battle they wage with the public in general. Or you can support the entirety of the tech community now and leave a positive mark on the people who will mold your legacy more than any other collective group of individuals.

- diggenerate, on 09/30/2008, -2/+8It's obvious that Svensko doesn't know or is too stubborn to acknowledge that 1) If I own a copy of "X" I should be able to make and distribute among my digital devices as many copies as I see fit and 2) That I should be able to obtain digital copies of movies and shows that I pay for on cable through any means available to me and 3) Many people that "steal" music/movies/shows/software, wouldn't or couldn't have paid for them in the first place, and that there is no significant loss on part of the copyright holder.
