- loopymonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8if you're looking for a program to learn how to model from and Blender (although FREE and amazingly feature rich) scares you, I would look into SILO or Hexagon. Both are very fun to model in, fast learning curve and inexpensive. Also both are just now releasing v2 of their products that have some excellent new features.

- Ignignokt01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Its damn near impossible to 'learn 3d modeling' in 30 minutes. Give me a break... just post a good beginner's tutorial, dont lie to everybody making ridiculous promises like that. It took me 20 hours to make my first model, and I'm still learning after two years of 3d modelling.
- CamZak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Is it me, or is this site impossible to navigate easily? Where's the 'next' button?
- wonginator1221, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah.....
And it doesn't help that the site just seemed to die - kramer3d, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3NOTE: you will not be able to model pics as crazy good as the ones shown on the site in just 30 min. those take months maybe years to perfect and learn topology like that. I still digg this cause its a topic of my interest
- AbaraiRenji, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i'd recommend having a look at wings3d for a free 3d modelling program, www.wings3d.com
- combatcupcake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have a good grasp on Maya... and thats after 4 years of art school and working on my senior thesis on my own.... 30min wont get you anything but definitions.

That site has great 100% free tutorials for Calagari Truespace. Free software and video tutorials that get pretty in-depth. something like this is perfect for beginners - noseeme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's an awesome site. I've always wanted to learn to use blender. My general knowledge of working in blender is very, very, basic, you could even say I am a sub-n00b at blender.
After I learn to use blender, maybe I'll learn to use YafRay or MentalRay. :D
Blender's own renderer appears to suck, but I think that's the point. - solidcube, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Also WINGS3D...
- eidetic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I recommend Blender as the best modeling tool for your money. It has the quality and features of a fully commercial 3D program, but it's entirely free (source code is available, too). You can't beat it for the price. Having used Blender quite a bit, I can say that if it were to ever go commercial, I would pay for it. It's fantastic. Yes, the learning curve is pretty steep, but once you get it, it becomes very easy to understand. You can then truly realize how intuitive it is and how much work has been put into the design of it as a whole.
The Blender community is a very large one, so there are many helpful sources for learning to use it. Namely:
http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_3D:_Noob_to_Pro
and
http://mediawiki.blender.org/index.php/Main_Page
and if all else fails, consult the forums:

... or your friendly neighborhood search engine.
The next version (2.42) is going to have some nifty new features, too. - SnowSurfns, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1yeah dugg down already
- YanSan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I started off with one of the bigons: Maya 7...and you can't learn it in 30 min. i took a class with 30 total hours and we only covered polygons. but i dug deeper on my own.
- bristolz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Geez, I must be stupid. I've been working hard on 3D for more than a decade and still am not anywhere close to mastery.
- whiteguysamurai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I am fond of zbrush, because it's pretty easy and uses pressure sensitivity.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1site navigation sucks monkey balls...
- hutch113, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2The site fell victim to the Digg effect so thanks for the Google cache link. Also, I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned Anim8or.
