- UncommonSense, on 10/12/2007, -12/+80I hate p9s50W5k4GUD2c6 for taking the name I wanted.
- UncommonSense, on 10/12/2007, -9/+64I also think it would be awesome if p9s50W5k4GUD2c6's password was "password".
- dralezero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+44Maybe the number of diggs should be hidden untill you digg it.
- p9s50W5k4GUD2c6, on 10/12/2007, -10/+48Great WTF line from Rose: "What pops up on Digg's front pages always amazes Mr. Rose. "I'll look at the front page and the different sections of the site, and I'll just go, 'Wow, that's crazy,' " he says. "I wouldn't have 'dug' that story. But it's fun to see it up there."
We all think that sometimes. - conjuror1972, on 10/12/2007, -6/+41Why does any and every thing "digg" related continuosly end up on the front page? Really who cares whether kevin rose thinks a story is good or not? I like the site and understand self promotion, but not every other day on the front page. OMG Kevin Rose took a *****, 1400 diggs....
Go ahead and drown me in your negatives.. bloody sheep. - brandonr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31Sometimes when I see some select stories on the front page, or stories that didn't make it, or scan some comments, it really makes me wonder how wise this crowd actually is.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Another phrase for "wisdom of the crowd" is "mob mentality". Supposedly the United States is governed by this "wisdom of the crowd", since we elect our representatives, yet what is the one thing in politics that people can be counted to agree upon when the elections come? That neither choice is any good. That both the Democrats and the Republicans suck, and that at best it's a matter of the lesser of two evils. I'm not entirely convinced of this "wisdom of crowds". Seems like a self-fulfilling prophecy sort of thing to me - sure crowds are great at grabbing onto new trends, but that's what makes them trends, the fact that a crowd has latched on to something.
- Hindu_Wardrobe, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21I'd digg a story titled "OMG Kevin Rose took a *****"
But that's just me... - NathanLoehlein, on 07/27/2009, -0/+13I love how they talk about the NYT and digg like they are competitors, yet there's usually at least a couple stories throughout the day from NYT on digg...
- Phatt138, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Good call. I searched for 'mob mentality' as soon as I saw this.
I mean, I love Digg and all, but the "Wisdom of the Crowd" is definately the same cultural phenomenon that's enabled major problems at one time or another. - grungyhamster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Yes, another name for it would be group think, which is quite prevalent on here and slashdot.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -9/+17All he wanted to do was tap an Indian chick on the shoulder..
- nilobject, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8He must not read the comments often if he can say "wisdom" with a straight face.
- justinjacobs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I would just love to see a NYT article with the title:
TOP 10 CSS DESIGNS - ArchAngel21x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Wisdom of the crowd or stupidity of the masses? I guess it depends on how you want to spin it.
- Spuby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4K.R. said "I wouldn't have 'dug' that story. But it's fun to see it up there."
He's actually worried. One of these days a pron link will be featured on the main page, and it will get like 10,000+ diggs. Then we'll all know how geeky the readership is. "The Internet is for..knowledge/The Internet is for..knowledge/Since the Internet was born/Knowledge, knowledge, knowledge" - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"wisdom of the crowd" isnt always a wise term to be throwing around for dealing with morality and decisions. The wistom of the crowd is only as right as the time period and the people in control during that time period. imagine saying that phrase if Hitler's Germany had won WWII,
- Wavey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's the same principle that guarantees that 99.9% of the artists that are currently on the Billboard Top 100 are pure crap. From what I see most of the time here, your comment is absolutely correct.
- teaperson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The Christian Science Monitor has nothing to do with Christianity or Science - it's an independent newspaper. Although it is owned by a Church, the general news coverage has nothing to do with religion.
- MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7ain't no knowledge like mob knowledge
- vvaduva, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hehe...I couldn't agree more. Well said...
- Spuby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2One more thing guys, when you're answering to a comment put [username] in front or something, as if the comment you're replying to goes up yours will be digged down as it seems out of context. Just a thought.
- cadavreexquis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4If you had an epic Godzilla-style battle between Kevin Rose's ego and digg's "Crowd Wisdom", who do you think would win?
- vvaduva, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Digg is NOT 100% user driven. If it was, then one would see a balance in the articles making it to the front page. Instead we see all stories submitted by Dirtifratboy and a handful of other people who either work for digg or have business/personal relationships with the digg people.
Anyone thinking that digg is 100% user driven is living an illusion... - vvaduva, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2-- Digg is simply tapping the "Wisdom of the Crowd" --
Or the stupidity of the crowd - crowd mentality does not always reach the best decision...or the wisest. Crowds voted Hitler in power, came up with Communism - democracy is not something to envy or pursue. - Wavey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Achievement gives you the "right" to be egotistical? Oh, man. Now THAT'S a real gem, brought to you by the "wisdom of the crowd."
Fortunately, not everyone who achieves something in this world follows your axiom. - zonk3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2wisdom of the crowd, mob mentality, whatever you want to call it...
it saddens me when i read the politics section and see what gets modded up and what gets modded into oblivion. i'm not so sure of the benefits of wisdom of the crowd when i read that stuff. - hutectro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Some of the story's that make the front page are so crappy thinking digg readers are children
the stories make no sense
But when i digg for news stories i find their good stories that get passed over - bluemech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Awesome, I didn't know Wisdom meant idiocy!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Wisdom ? Here at Digg ? Gimme a break. All I see is 13 years posting whining comments about Bush and sexual innuendo. The place is even worse than Slashdot for whining kids. There is no wisdom here. Luckily I know where to look to get my fill of real wisdom, Kevin can go on dreaming, digg is largely populated by idiots.
- SabbathXXL, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Am I the only one who rolled over "here" to actually see if there was a link?
- AlfredR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1amen
- streak, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Hey, Kev', did you see that bit of wisdom about the bus that was shrunk by a laser beam to the size of a volkswagen?
- known, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1Wisdom of crowds may work only with Altruists!
- PAJK, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3And you're how old? First you call everyone a sheep, and now you're calling me a wanker.
digg stories get on the front page because this is ... wait for it ... digg. It's just inevitable, is it not? Silly slapper. - glafira, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I like the idea that it is "100% User Driven".
- kp3469, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3"wisdom of the crowd" is what makes Wikipedia possible, people. sometimes [educated] crowds can actually do more good than evil.
- PAJK, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Achievement gives you the right to have an ego. I'm sure if you had created digg, you wouldn't have an ego...
Aside from that, I've seen Kevin express no ego. You can't do ANYTHING without being brought down by someone (who has achieved nothing themselves, of course). What's up with that? - linux_pimp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1nope, i did it to
- Wandel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2So... is "The wisdom of the Crowd" also one of those that "you've got to tap"?
- Zipp425, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2group think...
Now we are just getting into psychology. It would be interesting to run a few experiments on the people here on digg... Test the wisdom of the crowd. - Wavey, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Zing! Thanks for succinctly proving my point. Couldn't have asked for a better example of a shallow, cowardly, no-substance personal attack. Tapping the wisdom of the masses...right.
- DrunkenPirate34, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Aha.. Good eye man.
- killa2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Wonder how long there will be newspapers actually printed on paper....
- conjuror1972, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Hey PAJK;
WTF are you going off on? Im stating an observation that if you want a bloody story on the homepage put digg in the title and its there asap. Umm if digg was a payment site nobody would be here.. you included.
Who's slagging the site/ or kevin??? If you think I was.... your a bigger dumbass than I already know you are. Ever hear the saying preaching to the quoir?
And yes Im extremley jealous........ that kevin taking a ***** would get 1400 diggs.
Wanker. - rysolag, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1he sprinkles diamonds on his food, or he sprinkles it on his turd after it comes out?
- tecmec, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4why are people burying the parent? don't you guys watch diggnation? that's funny!
- drgordonfreeman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Read James Surowiecki's book (mentioned in the article) for a detailed discussion of when the wisdom of crowds is actually beneficial.
- hello2usir, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5"We all think that sometimes"
I'm surprised you even pay attention to the front page since you mostly seem to be busy submitting articles every three minutes. - Rice, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I'd tap that.

What is Digg?
