- p9s50W5k4GUD2c6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+34GREAT shot.
Soon kids are gong to get confronted with a google satellite photo of flipping off their parents.
"No Ma - I didn't flip you off! I Swear!"
"Oh - really? How do you explain THIS satellite photo, Johnny?" - mikesimp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24Also, you can see this satellite photo in Google Maps as well:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=41.852187,-121.480140&ie=UTF8&ll=41.85219,-121.480143&spn=0.005762,0.011373&t=k&om=1 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Well, I doubt Google has much interest in editing a satellite photo from Digital Globe just to fake some planes in flight.
There are a lot of other unusual planes captured in flight - check out the link in the story to a Lancaster Bomber. - projektmayhem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7if you read the article it says the blue "ghosts" are artifacts from the satellite itself, and will show up on any moving objects (including cars, etc.)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Well, I look for planes in flight as a hobby in Google Earth. And after many hours, I have found quite a few planes of varying types. Mostly small planes, and a few jet aircraft. But, something really unique like this refueling operation, or the Lancaster Bomber, are truly a rare find. Both the Lancaster and this KC-135 were found by new members to the Google Earth Community. In the case of the Lancaster it happened to be right near a guy's house when he first went to look in Google Earth!
- Dempf, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Oh that naughty, naughty KC-135
- TheComputerMutt, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=41.852058,-121.479059+(Planes+Refueling)&ie=UTF8&ll=41.852058,-121.479059&spn=0.002058,0.006094&t=h&om=1
Zoomed in. - RichPowers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Easily one of the coolest things I've seen on Google Maps. I wonder how long it takes people to find this stuff...
- mxmxmx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5i like how just above the planes, and to the left there is a sign in the corn that says "USA BUSH?". if this is real wow someone actually made a sign out of corn that big, if not, eh its not so cool, just thought its weird that two finds like this are in one picture, makes me wonder if either are real.
- vonskippy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Zoom in on alien (in a white lab coat no less) in spaceship orbiting high above earth, speaking into what looks like some type of recording device.
Offspring, you won't believe this recording. We're watching some type of weird mating ritual high in the atmosphere of planet #435628A3. We're not sure which one is which sex (yet ... or beta parent #4 will soon be fired), but watch as the bigger one coyly approaches the smaller one right before mating begins. If only the research budget would give us the damn sound equipment like we requested.
Fade to black as Alien (in a white lab coat no less) is furiously banging on the side of the recording device with 3 of it's 6 arms.... - kris.mallory, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2nope only 4
- damndj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wow, that is really awesome and is a great find.
The blue shadows are explained in the story. - theoallardyce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2good find! well its on maps.google.com thats for sure
- vermin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Awesome, it's crazy how freakin big C5's are.
- Justice101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Baby C-5s :)
- thegcinfo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have pictures of me flying in a KC-135 while it is refueling a fighter jet. We sat in the boom while they did it, however I was only 12 and in the Civil Air Patrol so it doesn't make me cool, it makes me a geek LOL.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thanks for pointing out the USA Bush thing, I just added a mention to the story about that.
- aldenhg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Intense. That area of California has to be one of my favorite spots in the US. The Lava Beds National Monument is great fun if you're not claustrophobic.
- EnviroChem, on 05/22/2009, -0/+1Boy what a find. A KC-135 refueling a C-5 near a field with a political statement cut into it (presumably by the owner of the field). For those who doubt that they are real, keep in mind that these can be viewed within Google Earth themselves and only someone with access to the satellite photos Google stores in their database would be able to mess with them. This means it is highly unlikely that they are fakes.
- jer105, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Since the military uses the same refueling tracks for aerial refueling, and the farmer probably sees them over his fields everyday he probably cut the msg into the field. One word got out I'm sure the pilots make a point to fly over it and see it.
- jer105, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, backcountry.com must me doing well, they have thier own B737! ;-) Kinda hard to take off in the parking lot though isn't it?
- wheeldude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1FYI found another plane right next to Ford motor Company World headquarters (Dearborn, MI) no C5 though! Interesting hobby..... well I don't know if interesting is the wright word....
- gModo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2why do they look so much like drawings done in photoshop then, i mean, it just doesn't look that real to me, google did that UFO thing on April fools day or whenever that was, so i wouldn't put it past them
- JamesWilson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Stick it in..Harder.
- g0dzilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=40.713883,-111.965758&spn=0.005733,0.010353&t=h&om=1
This is the warehouse where I work for backcountry.com and it looks like we have a corporate jet in the parking lot :-) - justinmt7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If you all could see how much air traffic flies over the US every day, you'd be be asking why there aren't more finds like this on Google Earth.
- valis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Ah. I guess I clicked the comment link without going to the headline article. *slaps head* Thanks for mentioning that. It was a mystery.
- AFCdtLoeb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's not a C-5, its a C-141 Starlifter. One can tell through the smaller body and the placement of the wings. A C-5 would be much wider in comparison to the KC.
- usafc5engineer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's a C-5. I have 3500hrs flying experience on them. It wouldn't be unusual to see them doing refueling there between Travis AFB CA (C-5s), and Fairchild AFB WA (135s).
- MrVoodooArmy, on 01/24/2009, -0/+0Great find.
http://www.shopoflittlehorrors.com - skierman64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The KC-135 and C-5 are on air refueling track 7BA, a well used air refueling track on the west coast. They are right where they should be. It's definitely a C-5 and KC-135.
- mrpizza, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1If you zoom out you can see that it says USA BUSH in a field near there :
Whoops, someone beat me to it - ummagummas08, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Er, as much as I like finding images like that on Google Earth, uhm, I dont think that looks real, it's too... round.. or something.. and if it was really a plane wouldnt it be from a more vertical view? Please feel free to correct me if I'm missing something here..
- valis, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2*blush* Yeah, I clicked the link to Google Earth and missed the article. My bad.
- AveryDeDog, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Umm... doesn't a C-5 have 8 engines?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2wow, a plane refueling. How exciting is that?
- valis, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2There is something wrong with those bluish shadows. They cast a shadow on the top of the planes, too. But that might be an artifact of satellite imaging. If it's fake, then who put it there? If it's real ... then a very cool shot and excellent find!
- airencracken, on 10/12/2007, -13/+2I just hope it's real. If so, way neat.
