- orbanj, on 10/12/2007, -4/+93HAHA! From Wikipedia:
Justin.tv has been the subject of many pranks. Because the site has openly released its call-in number, a user was able to spoof the caller ID on phone calls, using an IP Relay service. On March 21, 2007, a user called the San Francisco Police Department and filed a false report about a stabbing in the apartment. Hundreds of viewers witnessed two police officers literally breaking through the door of the apartment live, just minutes later. The following day, someone reported a fire at the apartment. Six firetrucks immediately responded, but because this occurred outside, it was not caught on camera. The San Francisco emergency services have since put Justin.tv's number on a list which requires a confirmation call before responding to any emergencies.[5] Justin has since changed his number, and has not announced the new one publicly. - SIRBERUS, on 10/12/2007, -2/+80It may not be completely an "act of evil" or a "travesty".
You have to remember that the landlords are in it to make money, and they have other clients to please...
Now take into consideration the fact that fans of Justin's show have already had police raid his house after spoofing his number to 911.
Justin is, technically, bringing a disruption and even potential danger to the complex.
I'm not saying I agree with it, I'm just pointing out the possible reason for him, or anyone that knows him, not being wanted there.
Edit: yea, what orbanj said is an example of the unwanted attention the landlords have to deal with. - sneakeykop, on 10/12/2007, -7/+60Justin being homeless and looking for a place to live, would be alot more interesting than what he's shown us so far...
- tituspullo71, on 10/12/2007, -5/+42who cares!
- bariswheel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Who's Justin?
- Glauck006, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21It might be a stipulation in his lease that he can't run a business out of the rented apartment, so that could be a valid reason.
- miketrash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20video of the police prank orbanj mentioned here ( if this link works. it doesn't half the time)

Whatever the case, I always try to view things from both sides... and whether it was him or a fan... it is things like that which can disrupt other tenants and even potentially make life harder for the owners in regards to liability and insurance.
They aren't, as far as I know, getting paid any extra to have Justin stay there, so, if you were in their shoes, why would you take on extra liability and risk your own well being if you can get another tenant who will not be as much of a disturbance?
While I don't think Justin should be evicted... I do also respect, if this is the reasoning, the owners right to protect themselves. - lolx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16very nice... how much?
- CaptainNoPants, on 10/12/2007, -11/+25what a travesty!
- nekoinu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14If I lived in the same apartment, I'd probably want him evicted for the noise and bringing many different people home.
Though I'm quite sure the landlord can evict him, he might not like it but quite simply he is running a business (Justin.tv INC) from a residence not zoned for business. - ngonzales80, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14For those who haven't seen ijustine
http://www.flickr.com/photos/27403767@N00/464263610/ - orbanj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I haven't seen this before. Can anyone explain how he manages to get such a good feed up no matter where he goes?
...and has he done anything exciting yet? like banged 'ijustine'?
edit: he just said on the camera that the 'delay' is 3 seconds. WTF how? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Well the apartment owners do own the place... they have some right to decide who lives there, believe it or not. Generally speaking, you can evict someone legally for any reason unless they're under lease and not violating it (and if they legitimately are under lease, I can't imagine anyone would be dumb enough to try evicting them). If you're just doing it for personal reasons, you might owe them relocation costs.
- GeneralChang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10probably because there are 3 dudes living in a 2 bedroom apt. with a live internet show being broadcast. and theres probably a ton of webtards flooding that place up with fake pizza or cop calls. people probably also complained about the media circus living in that building.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Considering very few people watch at all, probably none. And the apartment complex is WELL within its rights to do it.
- SIRBERUS, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10@ninesquaredis81
First let me just say that I am just playing both sides of the card... if the law favors Justin, then so be it. If it favors the owners, so be it.
With that said... in response to your question about his friends... it sounds like they are being extra cautious to make sure Justin is kept out. Is it right? No. Is it legal? I don't know. It might be.
I'm no lawyer, but while there is of course laws to protect consumers/renters, I assume there must be laws and regulations to protect business operators. If they are truly looking to rid themselves of Justin, the most efficient way to do so is to not allow any of his friends to rent either (because the immediate assumption is that a friend of Justin's would mean having Justin visit).
To me, this sounds like a company that is desperately trying to put all games aside and make sure they don't have to deal with someone.
I know the website labels the owners as "slumlords", and they very well might be, but if I put myself into the shoes of the owners... I can see myself doing the same thing. And why wouldn't I? Again... why would I take extra risk and liability without any reason? I for one would rather not gamble my well being, and perhaps my families, on a tenant who is worth no more than any other.
You sound like you know Justin... did he or anyone else ever attempt to negotiate some sort of sponsorship or advertising deal with the owners? Or give them some reason to want to assume the new risks?
I love Justin.TV, and I think Justin is awesome... and I hope if he's reading this he doesn't hate me.
But as much as I love watching Justin.TV, if I was the owner of his building and I watched the episode where the cops bust in with guns drawn... I would find it hard to sleep. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Ah yes, the internet. Where instead of having your own friends over to play games, you can watch someone else have their friends over to play games.

Might explain it a little bit. - MasterDwarf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Please tell me that I am not the only one NOT watching this 'show'.
- scottjw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6You mean he might go Cho-stal ?
- acceptab1euname, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Try setting yourself on fire instead, so none of us have to read another one of those posts.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Who cares?
- JonnyTrombone, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9Some guy who no one has heard of is getting kicked out of his apartment- and it makes digg because he has a webcam? Wow.
- orabox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This should boost the ratings a bit.
- olik, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6ARRRAAHAHAH! Where is that damn music coming from?!? It's in my head and it won't go away!
- jcapogna, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I think I heard something about having dual EVDO cards streaming the video.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Maybe the landlords think he might pull a Seung-Hui Cho in the apartment building.
- mzwaterski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3He has likely violated at least one of the nuisance avoidance type provisions that are in most leases.
- offspring06, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Your not the only one.
- smartalecks, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5http://tastyblogsnack.com/
is her blog - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Current California landlord/tenant laws heavily favor tenents.
You can easily squat (live there without paying rent) for 6 months in an SF apartment before the cops actually MAKE you leave. If Justin has paid his rent on time and is merely the target of pranks, he can literally fight an unlawful detainer (eviction) notice for years. - cliffzdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Taggar and others would like to sue building management. But two attorneys who specialize in landlord-tenant law in San Francisco agree they don't have much of a case. Landlords cannot discriminate on the basis of religion, sexual orientation or race, but there is little protection for personal or professional connections to those considered problem tenants."
- ngonzales80, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No. We dugg him down because it's the wrong ijustine.
- MasterDwarf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thank god.
- ninesquaredis81, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3not to mention, he was on the Today show
- RobotCitizen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's not Justin's fault, it's the ***** pulling these pranks.
- lifeat24fps, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Maybe it's the bad hip-hop DJing parties in the apartment upstairs ("I don't give a fuuuuuuccccccck").
- lukychmz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1who the hell is justin?
- smartalecks, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I dunno about that hdtv. His site has been reported about on NPR many times, as well as a few other news stations..
- drbogo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1what a *****
- EmperorAwesome, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I read the title and clicked, hoping that they were talking about Justin Long. Snide little *****.
- lodave, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Technically, according to the City plat maps the apartments are on Russian Hill, being west of Mason St., though the location might be considered North Beach, North Waterfront or Fisherman's Wharf, and the differentiations are blurred, particularly by the Real Estate Industry! As to Trinity's case:
There have been numerous complaints about late-night loud parties, raucous comings & goings, using the pool after 9 PM, (including parties) and as late as 4:30 AM. Many neighbors have complained many times.
The argument about business being operated is specious because the building has long been predominately corporate rentals, both short and long term. Not to stick up for Trinity (au contraire!), but it is the other tenants and the neighbors who want Justin.tv OUT! Incidentally Trinity Properties is anything but a slumlord, and in fact is more "guilty" of gentrification via high rents & improvements than anything else. - Gravedigger2000, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2And Nightline... as well as being mentioned on TWIT....
people have heard of him.
Dammit.. that reminds me of The Game...
Damn - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+7Media circus? Yeah, because it is not like 99.99999% of the country has ever HEARD of him, or ever will.
- Res1st, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I agree with "SIRBERUS" but at the same time I don't understand why the landlord wants to get rid of possibly the best marketing idea ever? Justin is advertising the apartment. Why would someone that is getting tons of advertisement want to do this? Its just doesn't make any sense.
- Scheissen, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2It's still interesting. Like when he has his friends over playing games.
- srx74, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5Justin should fight it all the way!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Buried for that exact reason. I thought audio on websites was a 90s fad.
- mach32, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Bingo!
